I doubt the rumor's true, but if it is, then Rey's almost definitely Luke's daughter instead. In any case, Rey is almost certainly a legacy character alongside Kylo Ren.

 

If they are casting an actress as a daughter of Solo there could be a few options for Rey

1. Rey is a Solo and the new character would be an unknown sister who now shows up
2. Rey is a Skywalker
3. Rey is not related to any OT character
4. It is thought that at the end of TFA Rey is the long lost Solo daughter and in VIII we find out that is not the case

If the final option happens then area could either end up as either scenario 1 or 2.

 

I have a new theory on Rey. She isn't related to anyone. She was once a member of the Knights of Ren and an apprentice to Kylo. Somehow, she lost her memory and has been living on Jakku alone as a scavenger. She's been trained in the force and can do amazing things but she doesn't know why. She's awesome with a staff weapon and is very acrobatic. Her name Rey is something she made up since she doesn't know her true identity. Being force sensative, she feels the force awakening just as Finn, Snoke and Kylo.

When the movie starts she gets caught up with Finn. Kylo is actually looking for Rey, not the light saber. He's looking to find out what happened to his old apprentice and tie up loose ends. Later when she is with Maz Kanata she's sees a vision of herself committing horrible acts and runs off to be alone with this revelation. After she is captured by Kylo, he tries to read her mind and her memories begin to come back. She escapes only to confront Kylo by the climax of the film. She narrowly defeats him and Kylo retreats as does Rey and Finn. Now loyal to Finn and the Resistance, she returns to the fleet having made new friends. In order to learn more about herself and the force, Chewie and Rey seek out Luke's help. She knows only Luke Skywalker can help her.

This theory would explain why she has the ability to use the force without training. Why she only has a staff but is able to wield a light saber effectively. Why she's alone on Jakku. Why they are casting the daughter of Solo for Episode 8. Why she runs off when seeing a vision of herself with Maz. Why Kylo doesn't kill her and tries to get inside her head. Why she isn't given the light saber when Leia gives it to Finn. Etc.

 

How two separate ideas can become conflated as one in the telephone game

1) Johnson is casting for a new young female character
2) Han Solo's daughter is a part in Episode VIII

becomes "Johnson is casting a new character as Han Solo's daughter."

Just putting that out there.

 

The article stated that Geek Nation is reporting that the new character is Han Solo's daughter. It's written in the article that way. I did not add my own slant to the rumor.

 

Well I wasn't addressing you steveo so don't worry about it.

Anyway.

A lot of these websites got so much wrong or reported distorted during and before Episode VII production so it would not surprise to be a rerun of what's occurred before.

"GeekNation"'s track record is...what exactly? Apparently the author works for SchmoesKnow.

 

I do think you are correct about GeekNation. I'm sure they have no idea who is related to who in TFA, let alone who will be needed in episode 8. Personally, I think it would be interesting to see Rey and Finn be unrelated and go against the only son of Solo who happens to be the villain. I think Luke chose the Jedi lifestyle and went without attachments. Perhaps his solitude is why he's become reclusive and talked about as if he's only a legend.

 

I completely disagree, we have two prime examples of luke punching above his weight



from the Star Wars comics that are now canon, Luke goes head to head and could have easily been destroyed by vader in this moment.

Secondly

Vader toys with Skywalker, using one hand on his sabre he pushes luke to the ground and completely dominates him in sabre skills and force skills.

We are getting the picture from the Kylo vs Finn/Rey duel that Finn is easily overwhelmed by kylo yet Rey has enough skill to make a "luke-like" effort until the fight is interrupted, the falcon appears and kylo flees.

 

Or maybe she was stranded there for a time after the Jakku battle, the republic presumed she was dead then a signal got out or something.

 

I love that people are speculating that Rey is evil because she is squinting.

 

OK.... (I still presume shes the daughter, I don't even believe my own theory here) But IF the VIII rumor is true..... then.... Han and Leia have a daughter.... but REY IS THEIR GRANDDAUGHTER!... but timeline would only add up if Rey is much younger than we presume (she could pull off 14 or 15.. I guess) I guess it is plausible. Or maybe Phasma is her mom lol

 

Well she is suppose to be the one that breaks the balance again.

Maybe its just a false rumor to throw us off from Daisy Ridley's reveal that is basically "common knowledge" .

 

I like how we are all experts on character who is yet to utter a word. How the hell do we know what all these characters are.

 

Y'know it struck me. We all seem to be assuming she's Han and Leia's daughter. But what if she is Leia's daughter, but not Han's?

 

I'd be very surprised if she isn't the daughter of at least one of the main trio. It would be a major letdown to make a big deal over not revealing her last name and then have her be some... random person.
