I heard this too, but up until this comment hadn't read that anyone else had! Nice to know I'm not going mad. I think it's there too, very subtly mixed in. Great work (dark)

Sounds like an interesting plot. Kind of a Suicide Squad on a galaxy far, far away.

I know! I think it was a subtle hint to mention Vader without removing the main focus to the new characters. Obviously including Vader on a more direct way would take all the attention so I think it was a wise move.

Okay, I'm really sick of all the whining about "a female in the lead" talk I've been seeing. It doesn't matter in the slightest! The same people are saying how awesome that Mom Mothma is in this, and how they got someone that looks just like her. It doesn't matter, it's a new damn Star Wars movie! Shut up you little sh*ts. Let's just have no more Star Wars movies for another 20 years, and you can complain about "Mary Sues," which is something I never heard before TFA. We're getting Star Wars movies, stop complaining and just enjoy this!

Am I wrong or do the E-11 blaster rifles sound more like they did in ANH?

Unka Plutt was a suit. So was Chewbacca. So were a ton of the aliens in the movie. "No Quarren or Ithorian masks? Disney lied about the practical effects!" is not a valid argument. I'm sorry you didn't see some familiar aliens, but please don't pretend that there were no aliens realized through practical effects.

    I think she will because:

    1) Why throw that misdirected away now? Especially after the Finn backlash.

    2) If she's another rebellious, independent woman that had to grow up on the streets on her own, is simply brought into the Rebellion because she's the main character, and seems to have something ominous waiting for her in the future....she's just going to be another Rey (right down to being another white brunette).

Also, on a different note...I don't think there would've been any backlash by most people if she wasn't another Caucasian, brunette. That's kinda all we see in the movies.

Actually that is one thing I like about the movie from what we saw on the trailer.

So far from ANH we learned that the Rebel Alliance was formed by either volunteers fed up with the Empire or smugglers hired by the Alliance to rent their ships and freighters to help on their Rebel activities. However, we never saw - and please correct me if I'm wrong - before some recruitment of roguish elements with a notorious criminal past to perform a mission for the Rebellion. That is why the idea of some kind of Suicide Squad showed up.

Anyway, we don't know yet the whole details from the teaser. I enjoyed that though: that we have a glimpse of the story line but not all the details.

Also, people need to stop guessing Grand Admiral Thrawn for Mendelson's character.

One of the MAJOR things about Thrawn that further pushes the importance of him having that title, is that the Empire is racist against nonhumans, and he is the only nonhuman to attain such a high position.

Speaking of aliens....anybody else a little disappointed that a movie called Star Wars still focuses mostly on humans, even for a one-shot? Why can't one of the main cast also be a badass alien? It's just weird because...you know, STAR Wars.

Well, that's a double entendre if I ever I saw one. A New Hope wouldn't happen to be the next movie chronologically, would it?

Nice screen caps! And, if this guy here doesn't inspire a whole new set of costumes for cosplay and Halloween, I will be bitterly, bitterly disappointed.
That shot where he's walking away with his cape flowing just over the top of the water is dramatic. It's enough to make me want to give up my Rey costume and start cross-dressing.

Ok, finally now I have some time to comment on the trailer. This could be one of longer posts (I may even make an article of it lol).

At start it goes two ways. On the one hand it's pretty generic character intro, but on the other hand I was relieved to see it because it let us know immediately that we're getting some glimpse of the story right of the bat. As opposed to The Force Awakens teaser, this one is more like a trailer and the fact that it is only titled as a Teaser means we'll be getting even much more in the future. Sure, there is a danger of telling us too much in the long run but their marketing have been flawless for far so I trust them to do this well.

Actress Felicity as Jyn Erso does not convince me entirely but that may be due to the dialogue lines that I think are far weakest than all in the trailer. The acting itself seems pretty decent, her action scenes are kickass and her determination to the role clearly shows. The droid following her later on is played by funny Alan Tudyk known for his role in Firefly and I bet we will get one Firefly reference in there somewhere. The rebel base at Yavin IV is done great, and the fact that looks the same but slightly less equipped in contrast to the one in A New Hope does great service to credibility and continuity of the universe. Speaking of continuity, the same actress that played Mon Mothma in Revenge of the Sith is here returning for the role and she even looks very much like older version of a character in Return of the Jedi - it's awesome!

The shot of her being dirty and driving in some unstable scrappy transport followed by strong tunes reminds very much of last year's movie hit Mad Max: Fury Road, but it may have been completely unintentional. Another, more awesome shot is the good old Star Destroyer accompanied by his friends flying by a giant metal surface that fills the screen - you know it's a Death Star! The last piece seems to fall in the place and sends the chills because of the meaning and the aesthetics of the scene - the tone is completely same as from A New Hope! It's siren rise the tension and the pacing of the scenes follows it shot by shot, one better than the other. Rebel charge is formidable, but the shot of the human Fleet Admiral (not the Great Admiral mind you) looking ready for war with the planet holo behind him is simply more impressive. I guess even more impressive would be if he had a blue skin and red eyes, then the community would go completely wild but still, I guess this one will do. However the possibilities are still here, and Thrawn could still be introduced into the canon but we'll see.

Stormtroopers going through city with battle rifles and a tank just screams "occupation and order by any means necessary" and is a right picture for the Galactic Empire as we know it. Forest Whitaker in the armor looks badass but also looks like he's wearing some version of improvised Mandalorian armor. I could be wrong, but if he's a bounty hunter it's a strong possibility. I the other shot and the last lines he looks like he's wounded though... Another shot with captured and beaten rebel prisoners just confirm the Empire's might from the similar scene before. Also note how Forest's character say "What will you do WHEN they catch you.". The Empire is strong and it's everywhere, so dominating than the capture simply seems inevitable. Even the simplest stations look like cities, landscapes of technology.

The scene of Donnie Yen's character surrounded by Stormtroopers with a crased black X-Wing in the background is great and his fighting skills are great, but somehow felt to me out of place in here. I know very well how Asian culture influenced Star Wars from the beginning, especially in terms of fighting yet still somehow it seems off. Take it with the grain of salt, I might be delusional here, who knows.

The firing of Imperial special forces, the destruction of a ship that kinda resembles Kylo Ren's shuttle (possible ship evolution right here), the rebels in cover - it says "War" more than any other Star Wars movie. We knew it would be serious and gritty and those scenes show it. The scene of Fleet Admiral walking near fallen soldiers over the water at the place of destruction is sinister as it gets. Gave me the chills, just like the next one in the imperial chamber where cloaked black figure approaches something or someone between the Royal Guards. Everything says there has to be the Emperor, but we don't see him. The black figure is not in the shape of Darth Vader and is too tall and strong to be the Emperor himself. My bet is on some sort of special agent or even the last inquisitor. We'll see.

Dirty battle continues as AT-AT's are storming the ground and gunning down the running Rebels one by one. Another great demonstration of the Empire's strength as they're literally stomping the grounds on which Rebels stand. This time, there are no T-47 Airspeeders nor Jedi to take them down. It will be tough for the Rebels, it will be hell and it should be, but whatever happens, A New Hope proves it was not for nothing.

The last shot in the trailer with Jyn in the Tie pilot suit simply looks beautiful and is perfect for the end of the trailer. The sounds that come with the logo combining the Force theme on piano and Imperial march stomping like over it is chilling. The right tone for the right story. Can't wait!

That being said, I'd love to see some twists since the plot presented in trailer is pretty straightforward. Either meaning that the timeline of the events in the movie is different or that some of them might seem misleading. Something like when the people thought for the Force Awakens that the Finn will be the main hero protagonist and that Phasma will have more to do in the film (ok, not that one necessarily). Just say, what if the last sequence of Jyn is one of her first one from the movie, or better yet, what if in the end she ends up switching the sides (which is especially convincing with those lines "What will you become?"), betraying Rebels yet still they somehow manage to complete the mission and claw those plans out of the Empire's grasp. Not necessarily the scenario I would like to see but it would make things interesting.

I have to say after letting it sink in and watching a bunch of times the one thing I really don't like are the 'Shadow Troopers". They look more advanced that the TFA trooper look. Also, Rogue One timeline wise has to be right on ANH's heels. The Death Star test Mon Mothma mentions ends up being Alderaan so it can only be maybe a few months before ANH. Did the Empire run out of these uniforms right before ANH starts???

Seems like a plain and simple merch move. New stuff to sell. I could do without them but I'm excited for the movie and I'm sure they wont ruin it.

I believe that the weapon testing in the trailer is something on a smaller scale. It's possible that the SuperLazer from Ep4 wasn't operational at that time yet. ALSO she doesn't say "weapon" but "Major weaponS test is imminent", meaning more, other kind of weapons.

As for the armor, for me TFA ones still look more advanced and sophisticated, and also if you want more stay tuned for Ep8.

I think you're right about the DS not being operational yet. According to Tarkin, Alderaan was going to be the test subject.

It';s even more hysterically absurd when it coms to SW films. Even lots of people who love them overall will concede that their treatment of female characters mot named Leia has been, questionable. I myself am one such person. And even the two movies that do have female leads, this and TFA, still have overwhelmingly male casts (and who knows how much actual screentime Mon Mothma will get).

Oh and the very next anthology film after this one, is a Han Solo movie. Starring a man and only having two characters confirmed thus far (Han and Chewie), both male. And the third one, is rumored to be either a Boba Fett or Obi Wan Kenobi film (again, both men). Yeah, the "SJW/PC police are taking over."

Your response to my comment is funky and curious so let's see what we make of it. First I'll start off by asking you, did you really think I tried to ''sneak'' my dislike of TFA? I guess we have different views on what ''sneaking'' and ''obvious'' is.
Second you try to defend your argument by making the past six movies look bad. You complain about the puppets in the first trilogy and then you complain about the CGI in the next. I guess you hated the past six movies right? So judging from you responce to my comment I can come to the conclusion that you're eather A-Just a new fan of SW that didn't grow up with the past trilogys as many of us did. Or B-You're just badmouthing the past movies in a desperate atempt to make your argument seem valid.
SW is much MUCH more than something that is meant to just look amazing my friend and you can't just take an awesome movie like ESB and clone it and expect everyone to find it incredibly awesome. That's what TFA did with ANH and I'm really hoping beyond hope that RO does not do the same with ESB or any other SW movie.
