    Why is the internet always go crazy on Sunday Nights/Monday Mornings? Is it because they have to go to work the next day/that morning after a weekend?
    Like the video says, there is nothing to be offended about with the salute, however the internet is raging about it none the less. Nice to see that people on this forum are relaxed about it!

    Why should the salute be controversial?

    Goodness...if people only scored an "F" in history they should just shut up and read it up first. Roman and German soldiers used their right arm.

    All I can see in the gesture is an angled left arm. So what? One of the Imperial security controllers in the Endor deflector shield generator bunker made the same gesture to his buddy when they learned that the Rebels had supposedly been scattered.

    I do not recall that his gesture became a big controversial issue in 1983.

    Sorry but like I just posted elsewhere I do not see any kind of political statement in the stormtroopers' raised left and angled arms. It rather looks like a "hurray" gesture to me.

    To be political or a salute the arm needs to be straight as in the Romans' or Third Reich's German salute (right arm only!).

    The Black Power salute stands quite in contrast to the aforementioned two (lowered head, fist instead of a straight hand), especially since it symbolizes a different message.

    We have said, and nearly everyone knows, that the First Order/Empire were modeled after Nazis. The Nazis saluted by lifting their arm in the air. It turns out that other groups have used something similar (including the United States at one time), but this is clearly a nod to the Nazis.

    Is J.J. making a political statement? Of course not. He is visually depicting the Nazis of the GFFA.

    People have developed a never make WW2 comparisons culture. Whenever such a comparison is made it creates a contrersy. I don't like the salute because the were already plenty of other things that invoked facisim but it is not offensive.

    Frankly, it rather looks like a timid allusion to me. Or does anybody seriously believe we get stronger allusions that could jeopardize all the fun the guys from the 501st Legion might have dressing up as ... stormtroopers? ;-)
