There is irony there. However, they are likely filming in the Nevada desert for a desert planet (if it isn't Jakku I'm going to combust)

That rumor was debunked. MSW first posted it, then Jason Ward took it down (I think) yesterday...

I thought it seemed odd. Glad I didn't post a report on it.

Indeed it sounded off. Especially the part that filming is scheduled for next year! I was actually surprised when I saw MSW posting it. It sounded very odd indeed...but they quickly took it down.

Looking back, the one image that has been sticking out to me has been this one:

It looks like they're filming something important. That's a lot of light concentrated into one doorway.

And then something happens that makes this guy run down those same stairs oddly and get flown over the railing:

What could this be? According to MSW the Dubrovnik set is going to be a Star Wars casino. But I still can't imagine what this sequence could possibly entail.

MSW has stated the casino rumor was wrong. As far as what is happening in this scene it is likely someone thrown from an explosion and the explosion will be added in later or he could be being force thrown similar to Rey being tossed in TFA

I thought that MSW had discounted the rumour of filming being done in Nevada not that there wasn't a casino scene at all? I certainly wouldn't mind there not being a casino planet city.

No they haven't. I think you are confused. They debunked the shooting at Nevada rumor that was wrong.
The casino rumor is something they have not debunked. These are two separate rumors which perhaps you are conflating.

I don't think you have to be worried at all. ESB was a long time ago and I think we've seen enough evidence here that the Dubrovnik scenes are probably the space casino scene we're hearing about. That said, I think there might be credence to @master_shaitan's comment. Without spoiling anything, in the comics we meet Han Solo's "wife". It's part of a hilarious story arc that really reinforces Han Solo's scoundrel status. I can see Rian possibly expanding on this in some way although I'm not sure how it would fit into the story. I think that storyline will most likely just stay in the comics.

To me the most likely explanation for Luke being on Corellia, searching casinos and causing trouble, is Lando Calrissian. Someone has to give him the bad news.

We know that Daisy and John's stunt doubles were in Dubrovnik. So Rey and Finn will be in this scene. Carrie was in Germany just before the filming. So perhaps Leia will also be in this scene. MSW wasn't 100% sure if the casino scene is the same as the Dubrovnik scene, but if it is, then Luke will also be in this scene.

MSW mentioned that the Dubrovnik/casino scene will be toward the end of first Act. So perhaps this scene will be the first time Luke and Leia see each other after many years (and it will also have the reunion of Rey and Finn).

Based on what I have heard so far, I am guessing that the first Act of Episode 8 will have the following four scenes. (1) Rey training with Luke on Ahch-To, (2) Finn waking-up and recovering on the Resistance base, (3) Kylo Ren and Snoke, and (4) the Dubrovnik/casino scene.

I think one of the images that leaked revealed that this scene is #138 or something in sequence. Given that TFA was apparently 300+ scenes long based on the shot list, that seems about right if we operate on the presumption that this movie will be slightly longer.

I wonder if they'll include this scene, considering it is a deleted scene for TFA that will be included on the Blu Ray editions? Maybe they'll reshoot it the exact same way? Or just use the same scene?

A lot of the time, hat kind of lighting could be used to shoot a daylight scene at night or they simply just didn't have enough lighting in that concentrates hallway...there could easily be more crews on the other side of the hallway but judging by the amount of crew in that picture it looks to me like this could be a 2nd Unit Shot .

I doubt it was a scene they filmed for the movie at all. The way it was set up was basically the TFA equivalent of putting Han in carbonite at the end of TESB. The point is, he's not getting back up again for a while.

And given that the First Order knows where the Resistance base is, I think it's likely that Finn coming out of his comatose state will happen in a different location. They'll just move him into a medical ship or something.

There is a deleted scene on the Blu-Ray edition called "Finn will be fine", and it features Finn getting rehabilitated after his arrival at D'Qar and him waking up.

Just because stuff was cut and included on the DVD doesn't mean that it's canon.
