Anyone seen the Hasbro Poe Dameron cardback? All I've been able to decipher on some blurry photos is that he's an ace pilot. The string of text is long.

They can't overdo it with that. We already have three characters (Finn, Rey, and Kylo) whose true identities are being kept secret. Everyone else should just be who they say they are.

Hasbro Poe Dameron figure (September 4, 2015):

"An ace pilot, Poe Dameron is a leader in the Resistance's fight against the evil First Order. He soars into battle behind the controls of a modern X-Wing Fighter."

I'm really excited for Poe! From what I've seen he seems like a cool put-together kind of guy which makes me excited. I get the feeling that he and Finn are going to be "rivals" in a way that they're both military trained, and both have different political values (one works for the resistance, the other is a defecting storm trooper). Perhaps by the end of the film they become close friends who like to give each other a hard time.

But I can't wait to see him pilot his X-wing, and command his squadron.

Why don't we know anything about Poe Dameron? I feel like he's been incredibly underexposed compared to Rey and Finn...

I'll preface this by saying I am no means a fan of all the heroes being related to the OT/PT characters, however I was revisiting the mizzlewump stuff, specifically this part in relation to Poe:

According to Oscar Isaac the role had changed by the time he auditioned and only got to read Poe's lines after the character "evolved." Also worth noting that the mizzlewump leak about the lead descriptions came from the 2nd draft of the re-worked Kasdan/Abrams script.

Could Poe be the child of lando? I can't find the source at moment but I recall someone (probably MSW) reporting a scene where Han is none to happy with Poe for making moves on Rey and thinks he's reckless. Given Han and Lando's history I could see Han objecting on a lot of levels to that relationship, plus it also provides an opportunity to bring Billy Dee into the fray for future films (which I believe Kasdan has mentioned before, trying to get Lando back in the story).

That would certainly be interesting... but you'd think his name would be Poe Calrissian, no? And Oscar Isaac doesn't really look like he'd be mixed race.

It's possible that the role "evolved" from there (although a 2nd draft of a re-worked script seems kind of final). Although from Isaac's comments, my impressions were that it "evolved" from whoever he was approached to play in the Arndt script.

Obviously the name throws a slight monkey wrench in the theory but just like the supposed state of the Solo family I don't think it's a stretch he might have a different name. Perhaps he takes after his mother?

As for the mixed race thing Billy Dee is already pretty light skinned so depending on the mother I could by it.

Everything revealed about the movie strongly implies that Poe is a secondary hero character, and not nearly as important to the move as Rey or Fynn. Somewhere along the way I got the idea that his role would come more to the forefront as the trilogy progressed, but now that I think about it, I honestly don't know why I think that. I don't know that anyone ever said so. I guess it's just because the role is so obviously smaller than the two leads in TFA, yet they keep introducing Issac at events along side Boyega and Ridley as if he's of equal importance.

His screentime may suffer because of Han Solo's presence as essentially the third main protagonist. Expect Poe's role to grow substantially in the following two movies. You don't introduce him as one of the new trilogy's Big Three unless that was actually the case.

I read the misslewump leak and thought that maybe two of the main characters merged into one (stormtrooper and child of Lando=Finn). Poe's character may have evolved from not being as important to becoming a part of three main leads as the script was rewritten.

I'm pretty sure the Poe hitting on Rey thing didn't come from MSW. I think that 'Poe hits on Rey and annoys Han' stuff came from another leaker that was most probably fake. MSW has very little to say about Poe, very little to say about how characters interact with each other, and looking at their outline (which I think is mostly right, minus a few surprises in the third act), there's not really a place where Poe and Rey even meet. Finn seems to be the common denominator in the 'big three'.

At this point, it seems like Poe is secondary to Rey and Finn, but given the treatment he's been given at events and in promotional materials, his role will be very important, especially (my guess) in the next movie.

Poe is going to be FRIGGIN AWESOME! Think about it, he's the best friggin pilot in the galaxy! That's not the kind of boast you can make without proof, so I think we're going to see him show off some piloting skills that would put Luke, Han, Lando, and Wedge to shame!!:)

Yeah, I was wondering where the flirtation thing came from. From the looks of it, Rey and Poe don't even meet until after Han dies.

Pretty sure that was a spoilerman/bro leak so therefore false

There was no Arndt script, there were general story ideas but no finished script.

Poe's Wookieepedia entry states that he is "first mentioned" in the new Princess Leia young readers book thing, set between TESB and ROTJ. Has anyone read it/know about this?

I read someone's post about that just today. They quoted that passage. I'm on my tablet, so it's harder to find it atm, but it's here somewhere.

This is the quote at the end of the novel. Leia is talking to Ematt, the rebel Han saved in his book. I'm putting it in spoilers for the sake of those who want to read the book.

“What brought that to mind, if I might ask? Ah—you’ve finally agreed to dictate your memoirs.”
“To start on them, at least,” Leia said. “It was a question about duty—our commitments to causes, and to each other, and how we balance the two. It’s something I learned battling the Empire, and now Poe’s learning the same lesson against the First Order. I’ve discussed it with him. He’s old enough to hear me, but not old enough to listen yet. I’ll keep trying.”
“Dameron’s commitment is absolute,” Ematt said. “And he’s our best pilot. He’ll get what we need.”
“I’ve never worried about Poe’s commitment. My worry is for what that commitment may cost him.”
Ematt nodded, and Leia peered at him.
“I know that look,” she said. “Is there news from Jakku?”
“Yes, General,” Ematt said. “We’re awaiting you in the command center.”
Leia nodded and stepped into the corridor. The door shut behind her. As she and Ematt walked toward the command center, she felt a familiar tingle somewhere in the back of her mind. Events were in motion, and she would be at the center of them—at the center of the action.
And that, even after so many years of war, was a relief.
