What I am referring to is my speculation that Luke has gone Batman on the galaxy... I backed it up after some thought with elements I expect to be in the new trilogy...

Kyle, you have had some great posts, and rumors (even from sources) can come in cryptically, so don't take anything I say as doubting that you have heard what you heard... MSW has some solid sources, too... it just seems there is a conflict here between the two (and wouldn't it be a freakin hoot if it was the same guy feeding you both, and giving you conflicting stuff to muddy the waters...)

My problem with Montross being the ultimate baddie is that we have reports (I believe from you) that MvS makes a report after the saber scene with Ridley... and if he is the baddie, people would be reporting to him, not the other way around...

 

I never said that MVS reports to anyone.

Also, I have repeatedly said I could be wrong and will gladly apologize if I am.

MSW is a great site and I would never say anything they are reporting is less accurate than what I share.

About the saber, I love the idea of a cross bar..but I would hate to see it as 2 'butter knife sabers'. I would like to see a large, thick hilt wit a nice chunky pommel at the end and 2 emitters, both on an angle towards each other. When activated, both blades would make 1 thick red blade. A "broad saber". That would be really cool!

As for these sources, freely leaking this information simply upon request, this doesn't strike any of you to be kind of...strange?

Not trying to rain on anyone's parade, but, is it not possible that these people are being told to leak false information so easily? I mean its to the point where guys are saying "Hang on let me just shoot over an email to confirm.....Yup, its true!"

Never said you did, mate (with regard to anyone being negative about anyone else)... again, not being adversarial here, trying to mine for info...these are pieces to a puzzle, some need to be fit in the right spot, some belong to other pictures...

There is a report that Montross, following the saber scene, makes a call saying, "it's here" or some such (which as MagnarTheGreat points out is from Faraci) and I can't line that up with him being in charge is all. And as I pointed out in other posts, if MvS was the ultimate baddie, he wouldn't be hanging out in a junkyard...

Now... there are 4 options....

1) You are right, MSW is wrong
2) MWS is right, you are wrong
3) You are both wrong
4) You are both right, and we just ain't seeing how it fits...

But nowhere in anything do I think any of us are doing anything more than trying to put our best into figuring this out... and on that, I accept (unless proven otherwise) that is someone has a source, they are being legit about it, with the caveat that the info being fed to them could be red and fishy...

Had to catch up with the conversation.

I would suggest that anyone who hates the hilt NOT get all bent out of shape over a small detail like that. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. Maybe watch the movie and see if the hilt makes some sense.

Secondly, for those that say JJ and co. are just being lazy IF they re-use the character or concept of Darth Revan. Usually you can tell people that don't understand the writing process when you read comments such as these. Recall, that JJ is working from George Lucas' treatments and his outline for the Sequel Trilogy. YES, JJ and Lawrence Kasdan had plenty of opportunity to re-write the treatments/Arndt script but that does NOT mean that they reinvented everything in the script. IF this character is Darth Revan, based on GL's idea for the overall saga, it does NOT change. In other words -- JJ and LK did not remake the Sequel trilogy in their image, they re-wrote a script.

I think there's a lot of confusion over who this character may be and rightfully so. My take is that Adam Driver's character is the Grave Robber or collector of Sith Artifacts and that he may be working for MVS as an apprentice. BUT I think the mask in the concept art, which has always been represented as very generalized, is just that -- a mask to hide his identity, especially if he's an aristocrat that would stand a lot to lose in terms of wealth and influence if he was outed as a Sith. How this all ties into Darth Revan and the alleged "ancient fear" is of course the major question.

Lastly, I will re-iterate that just because the EU has been rendered non-canon that does NOT mean in my estimation that everything in the EU is non-canon. I think it meant specifically to the events that took place after ROTJ as this is the timeframe they're currently dealing in and it makes sense NOT to tie the artists hands with mediocre stories already written. They have creative freedom. That said there seems to be no reason why the established backstory or history of the saga, especially as it pertains to the Old Republic won't remain largely intact. This story may bring alot of that to light and would set up beautifully any spinoffs or even a new series set in that era.

I was reading the MakingStarWars article on the Revenesque 'villian' and one of the masks that is described sounds a lot like the inquisitors mask from 'Rebels'.
The mix of Revan and Emperor's Royal guard.

 

Adam Driver is simply too young to be taken seriously as a threat to a Master Jedi like Luke. Adam Driver may be a Sith but he will be someones Darth Maul type character. Not a Darth Vader and certainly not a Sidious.

I doubt that very much. I just don't see Disney covering up Lukes face for 70 percent of his appearances in the film. The main baddy is the guy with the Mask (Or maybe the assistant baddy). The main baddy will be MvS. I'm willing to bet my bank account on it. MvS will be a non descript old timer at the start of the film and by the end we will learn it was a cover so he could go around the galaxy following Luke or his apprentice searching for sith and jedi artifacts without raising too much suspicion. You can take that to the bank.

 

Sounds like Luke has a family and loses them in a tragedy and then goes all dark over it. Well maybe rage is the better term. He might walk the line between light and dark and even cross it to get his revenge.

 

Truth. He's basically Shaggy. Unless they add extensive makeup/CG, he's not believable or marketable as a villain in what's likely the biggest/most important film on Disney's slate for 2015. Even if you put him in a cool Vader like outift... once they unmask him, it would be a Scooby Doo episode where the villain was revealed to be Shaggy!! Zoinks!

DO NOT WANT. WILL EAT SCOOBY SNACKS/DOG FOOD IF PROVEN WRONG.

 

It seems to me that this is obviously the case. Him being old and decrepit is a cover for his real Sith ability.

Unless he is feeding her misinfo to make her do what he wants. He is a Sith. Sith manipulate. Think of the water ballet scene in episode 3. Partial truths being told to make people do what you want.

Very meta. Wouldn't put it past JJ too. Not to say we don't appreciate the efforts of MSW and Devin and Kyle and co. But take EVERYTHING with a grain of salt, even things that are said to have made it into production. Until we see stills or a trailer, assume all of it is fanfiction with pretty sketches/comps.

It's not a bad thing either. Part of the fun here is trying to determine what's the most sound fanfiction. Then adding our take. And debating the possibilities. And making friends in the process. GROUPHUG!
