Interesting how they keep emphasizing to not reveal themselves, its very... Rule of two.

Anyone else notice the lightsaber shot a blue/lightsaber colored projectile rather than a traditional blaster bolt? Did he somehow rig the projectile to have special qualities (be an extension of the force flowing through him)

I liked the Jaba the hut guy, and well... Hera being sassy.
Its was a very light episode and I enjoyed it.

Star Wars has also had it's healthy dose of silly creatures (see Max Rebo pic). It's part of it. I enjoyed the puffer-pig for what it was, comic relief for children with a crazy design and silly concept. As for Lothal, I agree. I like the planet, but let's move on. And as far as the Falcon and Bespin go...OT fans know that Bespin is on the near horizon with the whole concept of gas mining, so that was like an uspoken easter egg that served it's purpose I think...But I too hope to see the Falcon in coming episodes. It would be really cool to see Kanan and Zeb meet up with Lando again and become players in the very game where Lando lost the Falcon to Han Solo. I can imagine after the game, imperials storm the cantina and the group is forced to make an exit in the Falcon, while Han and Lando argue about how best to fly her and whose ship she is...the Chewbacca / Zeb combo would also be cool. Here's to hoping!

I think the plasma blasts are blue due to the blue color of his kyber crystal. I speculate that it is in essence, a release of energy that is the same as that of the lightsaber blade itself. Look at the pictures below and you can see that they are the same blue color. It's interesting to note that it kills the opponent without leaving a gaping hole in his chest. Maybe his body absorbs the deadly energy...or more likely, since it's a kid show, that type of violence simply cannot be depicted on screen.

I haven't seen the episode yet, so I'm basing my thoughts only on the pictures you've posted: Maybe the baddie isn't killed, perhaps it's just a stunning weapon, like the blue rings the stormtroopers use on Princess Leia at the beginning of ANH

It's just me, or he looks like a dark haired/skinned Wesley from The Princess Bride?

My daughter laughed and asked to watch it again. She hasn't seen ESB yet, so when I told her Lando was in some of the other movies she was interested. I think she's still maybe a little young for ESB though. Maybe for her 4th birthday.
By that measure, I say it was a solid episode.
I have to keep reminding myself the audience for this show isn't even the same as Clone Wars. It's going to skew a lot younger, so don't get too caught up in the slapstick or dialogue. I'm just watching for the mythology. And in that regard, I think they're building something interesting here. I do wish there were more environments, but maybe we'll start to see more in season 2, which hopefully will have a bigger budget.

Hmm...could be, but I do notice that both in the classic rebellion era (A New Hope) and the clone wars era (both shown below) stun blasts are traditionally projected as a ring, which I imagine is to spread the energy over a wider area to lessen its lethality but widen its effectiveness. Ezra's blast seems more focused, although it doesn't fit the traditional blaster bolt look either. He is far from traditional though, so you could be right. All I know is if I'm Ezra, and I've had a weapon all this time that has previously only proven effective on the indigenous rodent life on Lothal, I'm setting that thing to kill...not stun...those days are over. Lol.

Ezra should pimp out his Saber blaster with a laser sight. :)

Well, my son has Ezra's lightsaber toy (which is great fun btw) and it has a switch on the handle to activate the blade with your thumb and a trigger on the otherside for your trigger finger to shoot the blaster. I assume the actual saber is designed the same way. It looks like there are two triggers in the visual guide book that my son has. The only problem with the toy design is that we usually have to take out the darts when dueling cause he always misfires by accidentally shooting the blaster while using the saber. I hope Ezra's version has a safety. :)

Lando would have been 26 when this episode was set. They made him look older than he should have been.

I wonder who decides these things because then he was playing a character 9 years younger then his actual age in Empire Strikes Back. He looked about 40 in Empire and seemed to be around that age (Williams was 43 at the time). He always seemed quite a few years older then Han Solo not 2 years older.

Solo seemed to be 35 in Star Wars (his actual age) not 30-31 as his character is listed.

That information comes from Wookiepedia derived from non-canon material. I think it's safer to go with how old the actors who played them would be 4-5 years before A New Hope (circa 1972). During Rebels, Lando would be about 35 (which he looks in the show) and Han about 30.

It's interesting to see such mixed reviews for this episode! I personally thought it was good. Don't get me wrong, "Path of the Jedi" was easily the best yet, but I found myself entertained throughout this one nonetheless. I think I prefer Rebels to The Clone Wars series 1 to series 1. We have the capacity for character development and we honestly don't know the fates of these characters or the story in general, which makes it all the more exciting. Also, despite Rebels being arguably more child friendly, I find it far less irritating as a whole. Particularly Ashoka started out as very irritating in TCW (although this changed as time went on) and obviously Jar Jar was there. Ezra doesn't rub me the wrong way as he seems to with a lot of other people. Anyway, I digress.

I thought Lando's guest appearance was well done. We still had team Ghost's dynamic relationships flaring up and Lando didn't steal the show whilst also being the central pillar of the episode. I would put that down to good writing. I liked that Lando was a bit cocky and outgoing, as this almost reflected that he had nothing to lose, while we see an entirely different side of him in Cloud City - a man burdened by responsibility and plagued with self importance due to his position of power. Williams' voice work was obviously wonderful, although I'm not sure if it's just me, or could you recognise the advancement of years in his voice slightly? Even so, it kind of worked with him being the younger, less self assured Lando we saw in a strange way!

I'd be interested to know whether he could fire and duel at the same time in the series (be it accidental or otherwise)! If so, would this affect the integrity of the blade somewhat with the discharge of energy? Who knows!

It has a similar effect as his dreaded slingshot, only blue instead of yellow. maybe he took some components off his slingshot and put it in the Saber. If that's the case the Slingshot is gone!!! (fireworks)(epic fail)

I think he designed the blaster to be there to really mess with the inquisitor.
I'm not sure at all how he will use it though to get the upper hand, but I imagine he can dispatch weaker enemies faster at least so that he is more one on one and he can distract the inquisitor so he can't just run around the ship slashing up everyone.

I really wonder what its properties are when attempting to deflect it, maybe the inquisitor will have to dodge it, or maybe he can disarm the inquisitor with a nice enough shot.

    But my biiig question is,
Obi-wan "an elegant weapon, not as clumsy or random as a blaster"
Is this type of blaster somehow less random? Less clumsy?

Or has ezra simply attatched to his lightsaber to avoid it getting force pulled out of his hands

I'm sure it will really put the inquisitor off though no matter what. No more slowly walking towards ezra , creeping him out :p cuz he'll be under fire!

I hope ezra eventually reveals the plan behind it.

Cool thought. That would be awesome. I could see Ezra locking sabers with the Inquisitor and pulling off a surprise cheap shot from his blaster. Which of course the Inquisitor would deflect immediately because he is awesome.

Kanan and Ezra meet with Obi-Wan (Ben) on Tatooine to discuss a plan to thwart the Empire in some capacity...

Ben: Can I borrow your staple gun for a moment?

    Ezra: Uh...It's not a...

Kanan (interrupts): Master that's not a stapler. It's a lightsaber.

Ben: (laughs) No seriously, let me borrow your stapler.

Ezra: Here (extends saber) look... I designed it myself (hands it to Ben).

Ben: Hmmm...you weren't kidding...but what is this mess in the front? Were you trying to achieve some sort of protective rapier hilt? Cause it won't work if that's the case...have I ever told you about the disastrous crossguard design from the Old Republic? Looked intimidating, but very impracticle...stupid stubs kept getting chopped off, and not to mention the constant accidental burns to the thighs and forearms...this is a very "unique" design padawan, but next time you might want to think about something more traditional.

Ezra: No, Master, it's a blaster...in the front...

Obi-Wan: You mean to tell me it's a reverse Jedi-mullet? Party up front - business in the back? Jedi mullets are a bad omen...the only person I ever knew with one ended up going to the dark side...besides, blasters are so uncivilized...

Kanan: Perhaps a demonstration, padawan? (Ezra takes lightsaber from Ben and shoots a target across the room)

Ben: (eyes light up and mouth hangs open) Holy $@*#! I stand corrected...this is incredible...a real game-changer! The power of a lightsaber focused into a single beam of energy and precisely directed at a single target's center mass...the effects could be devastating...we can't let this tehnology fall into the wrong hands. The empire could use such a weapon to destroy entire fleets...or worse...entire planets! How effective is your lightsaber blaster in combat?

Ezra: Umm...well...I've never actually killed anyone with it...it's more of a stun blaster really...I based it on my slingshot...here...look (shows slingshot to Ben).

Ben: (disappointed) Ohh...nevermind...we're good. So tell me more about this pilot of yours...she like older men?

And there you have it...The implications of the Death Star brushed aside and the possibility of a Kenobi in The Force Awakens...all set up in a few moments in Rebels...I love this show. ;)
