SPECULATION Reshoots and The Mystery Box

Discussion in 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' started by DarthHendrix, Jan 28, 2015.

?

If you had to guess, what are the nature of the 2 day TFA rehoots?

  1. They simply messed up the first go round.

    74.2%
  2. J.J opened pandora's mystery box by shooting misleading scenes at Pinewood.

    16.1%
  3. They want to connect with the first spin-off/Post-credit scene

    0 vote(s)
    0.0%
  4. This is why Amendment 64 should never have passed

    9.7%

Hot off the news of TFA's February reshoots in the city of Angels, my speculation gears began grinding. It's only a couple of days, (so obviously it's nothing extensive), but I'm wondering if the reshoots are simply scenes being redone because they were shot incorrectly first to throw off any possible leaks. Like the steroids version of making David Prowse say "Obi-Wan killed your father" when they shot ESB. Except instead of simply having a James Earl Jones overdub whatever line, it's the whole shebang.
But then I started writing this, and began to think about recent history's Marvel Studios reshoots, (notably, the Disney subsidiary they wanted Lucasfilm to replicate, only more efficiently), which add in scenes that give connective tissue. Post credit scene or otherwise. So perhaps now that Whitta finished his first draft, which now has a re/co-writer, TPTB have enough info to move forward on connecting the ST and the spinoff.
    Thoughts?

Usually, reshoots are made because they need some extra material for the editing room. Many times, they shoot a scene, and the takes are OK a priori. But when they are cutting and editing, they see that somehow it doesn't work and need little bits to iron out edges.
So I don't think they messed up as the first option says.
I don't think either they want to make any post-credit scene or something similar.
And I don't think they actually shooted misleading scenes, but it really seems like a plausible theory to me

I'm guessing that since the reshoots will be taking place in Los Angeles and not Pinewood Studios, the already-built (and presumably saved) set construction won't be used, just blue screen.

Lol...guys...it's just reshoots...they may add tiny things here and there but this isn't a "mystery box" thing.

I assume we all know how reshoots work...but then again...I thought people understood how "story treatments" worked.

Most films have reshoots planned in advance of principal photography - they're worked into a movie's budget.

I think these are normal reshoots. If anything was mystery box related I would point to the pirate base set pics where many people were see in some kind of rebel uniform.

Yeah, completely normal. Just hashing out details. Always happens. Good to know they are happening really. Alos, more importantly it would be a good bit of speculatory device if we knew WHO would be at reshoots.

The reshoots could be longer than a couple days, that actor only said HE was doing reshoots on those days. Just for clarity's sake.

I think the reshoots are probably just business as usual.

I've heard it from a reliable source that JJ Abrams showed Lucas the rought cut, and Lucas threw a tantrum. So now they are going back to reshoot a lot of the dialogue to make it more in line with Anakin and Padmé's lines in Attack of the Clones.

But seriously, reshoots is quite the normal thing for movies. In editing they figure out they need this or that shot from this or that angle, and so they go shoot it.

Guarantee, if they are doing "mystery box" re-shoots, we will know nothing about it. These are just touch ups.

Personally, I think with the focus lately in the news that the spin off movie will be a Han/Fett movie, and that it will involve Ford (which means it is in the same timeline as TFA, not a "prequel") they are shooting elements intended to tie TFA in with the spin-off... minor things that wouldn't have been determined prior to the general plotlines of the spin-off being determined.... but that is pure speculation

I think the reshoots are to include a role for Jar Jar Binks. Welcome back, Jar Jar!

That's pretty much what I assume. But hey, a guy can dream. Plus, if we took everything at face value, this would be a boring place.
