That's what made how Ben/Kylo is portrayed absolutelly compelling.
I said time ago, that having a villain portrayed as Vader was in OT would have been silly in the 21 century.
In the OT we only see Vader's inner conflict through Luke's words/eyes.
There's just a line leading there told by Vader himself "It's too late for me, son" in ROTJ before the finale.
There could be other few things, but it's not comparable (at all) to what they're doing with Ben/Kylo.

The other way to make the character interesting, was making him... Hannibal Lecter.
But this is SW, and we have to "redeem him".

I also know, that we disagree in the last consideration: I still think there's no need of a romance to push him follow the light.
Not that is "impossible". I do believe it's not needed. You can love your family, the galaxy...
But that's a matter of taste. I also believe that the most unselfish thing you can do (and you have to act like that to redeeme yourself)
it's doing something for the galaxy sake.. not just of the one (ones) you love.

But again: a metter of taste.

That said, I believe, that's the case:

In my opinion, it's because they're working brilliantly with his psychology...
And that's perfectly consistent with what would really be soemone with those kind of issues in the real world.

Hi guys!

I'm new here. I walked into TFA assuming Rey would be Luke's daughter, but I couldn't help picking up on the sexual chemistry between Adam Driver and Daisy Ridley in their scenes together. And I didn't expect Disney to pull another incest plot on us. Having rewatched the movie a few times, I'm starting to believe that there will certainly be something between them. I'm not sure if it will necessarily be "romantic" or sweet for that matter, but I do think it will be extremely passionate. I wouldn't mind a romance, but I don't expect it to resemble anything like Anakin and Padme's or even Han and Leia's. Rey and Kylo are in a sense too confused and "innocent" for it to move to those levels so quickly.

As for Finn, I love him. Finn is one of my favorites. But, I do feel they set Rey and Finn up as good friends by the end of the movie and their future interactions will develop that way. Judging by the information we've been getting, it doesn't seem Rey and Finn have much time together in the upcoming movie either, which is disappointing.
