Rogue One trailer Thursday morning.

This latest trailer suggests Jyn's dad (Galen) is in a decent number of scenes. After earlier trailers and clips and articles, it seemed to me that his character might have been more like Luke in the Force Awakens -- a rarely seen MacGuffin that Jyn is chasing after while the rest of the heroes are focused on destroying the death star.

Now, this trailer seems like Galen is in a number of scenes and is openly resisting his Imperial bosses. Before, it seemed like Galen might have appeared to have gone along with his Imperial bosses while secretly undermining their plans. Now he seems more like a tortured slave scientist being forced to build the DS against his will. Thus, his decision to make the exhaust port flaw, put that in the DS plans and tip off Jyn/The Rebels on where to find the plans.

Perhaps Galen is the true architect of the trench run -- he designed a weak spot and maybe also an access trench with few turrets...

Commander #1: "We've analyzed their attack, sir, and there is a danger. Should I have your ship standing by?"
Tarkin: "Evacuate? In our moment of triumph? I think you overestimate their chances."
Galen: [Smiles from the grave].

 

You missed the lightsaber the rock Jedi was holding.

 

That's just a statue of Darth Plageius, holding his staff, before he became Ezra and later Snoke!

Yeah, it would be awesome to get a re-release of the original trilogy and TFA leading up to Ep. 8.

 

I agree with you that point. Trailer looks great and looking forward to it. I think showing very little Vader is what's going to get people into the theaters. You could compare this marketing strategy to the end of Episode VII when Luke does not speak. I think that's the route they are going. Showing bits of iconic characters so that they don't overshadow new characters, but also keeps us motivated to see the movie. Kind of like dangling the carrot on the stick.

I wonder if Rogue One will be a continuation of Disney being good at making Star Wars trailers, but not so good at making Star Wars movies.

 

I have yet to see that movie! I wanna see it sooo bad. My friends who have seen it say its really good

My thinking exactly. The body language tells me that this guys has an ace hidden in his sleeve, he’s not a broken man. Actually, he’s the one that contacts the rebellion to blow this thing out of the sky in the first place.



And this will finally seal his fate.




And who’s the men striding so purposefully, full of authority and self-confidence towards Krennic? I guess he’s none other than Tarkin.

 

I'm still holding onto hope Ian McDiarmid turns up as the Emperor at some point. Even a glimpse. Just a laugh!!!

 

I'm surprised that people don't really get that this movie is not about Vader and the old crew again. It's about that Rogue One crew and it's the story by their eyes. Of course, Vader will show up but only when needed it's not gonna be a one man show.

I'm already quite sure people will complain because he will not be the central character of this movie and we will only see him when the story will need it.

BTW, it could be an idea to make a standalone movie about the time between Rots and ANH in Anakin's story.

 

I hope the galen/krennic relationship with vader is similar to Kylo and Ben's relationship with snoke If that is Tarkin then he looks too young with that hair.

 

I thought about that as well. Judging from the SW Celebration reel, it does look like Tarkin, but it seems like they would have caught and done something about that detail.

 

Then maybe this movie takes place much earlier then we all think and/or this is a shot of a flashforward or an after credits scene but it could also be a time jump.

 

That's quite possible. Another possible indication of that is, from the glimpse we've seen, Bail Organa doesn't look that much older either. Granted, peoples' hair can go gray at different rates, but his hair still looks pretty dark to me, all things considered. So maybe it doesn't take place quite as close to ANH as we've been speculating.

 

If I had to guess then it would happen probably only 7 - 10 years after ROTS because, if you look closely at the glimpse of the space battle, they are flying BETWEEN METAL that is clearly under construction and the only big set piece i can think of on that scale is the death star
