Tache Station never appeared other than the Biggs scene in ANH hope that was deleted.

Anchorhead has never been on screen, though that outpost looks small for it.

It's possible it could be Tosche Station. Good point.

The only reason you can't see two suns is because they didn't put the second one there yet

The you only see 1 sun reasoning assumes the two suns that they are always near each other in the sky.

Tosche Station sits on the outskirts of Anchorhead and may lie within its territory, so technically the estate of Anchorhead might have indeed appeared on celluloid.

The Hoth idea is introgueing except for one thing...wouldn't a planet covered in snow and ice become a predominantly water based planet, rather than desert?

Or are we to assume that all the water evaporated?

Personally, I think it's Tatooine if for no other reason than simplicity Nd homage.

Damn, I think I was too quick to speak about that one. I might have mislead you guys.
@TIDMADT I think your credits are safe for now. I will explain later, but I think I read the message I got about this wrong...

Try not to apply real world physics to star wars. But we can do it here for fun. A melted snow planet would at least not become a desert. Warm air can hold a lot of water though, and water expands as it freezes so a melted hoth doesn't have to be a water planet either. A planet can't cyclically go from snow covered to desert though. If the water left the planet, it wouldn't return when it got cold again.

Let me guess, the conversation went like this:

Viral: Is the planet we've seen Tatooine or not?

Deep Throat: Tatooine is in the movie... *evil grin and twirl of moustache*

Your source is a funny guy.

It is Tatooine. They definitely wont have 2 desert planets that both look like Tatooine in the film. It is Tatooine.

    It is Tatooine.

It's a binary star system... they are always near each other

There are actually a few good articles out there (see here) which theorize the ecological situation on Hoth... there is a ton of scientific evidence to actually support this, and seems to be written by someone who actually understands how these things work....

(Note: I am a fan... but this is a level of fandom beyond me)

Great find... although JJ has confirmed that is an x-wing... oh my, has so much time passed? I remember that whole debate so early in the speculation days

Where is the button for <power dance>

Oh yeah, here it is... (dad)(duel)(dual)(duel)(dad)

Well... it would definitely be interesting if we kept flashing between two scenes in the desert, thinking they were on the same planet, and then at some crescendo point you realize they aren't...

Again, it's a binary star system. The twin suns (G1 and G2) orbit each other (with one being the "master" of the other) and the planets orbit the two at a much greater distance. Unless very close to the horizon (during dawn and dusk) where one has simply not crested the horizon, they would be very noticeably together in the sky

Well it's a tricky one. My most trusted source thinks that they would not go back to Tatooine AGAIN! I misread his previous post. Now I'm really confused. For me this doesn't make much sense. From what we've seen in the trailer, that planet looks just too much like Tatooine. Why create a new one when it looks the same? We can even see some McQuarrie art elements in the trailer, meant to be used with Tatooine before. On the other hand the desert planet from the art looks much different but from the art we've seen, we know that it's the same planet from the trailer. And that market from the force for change video definitely screamed Tatooine.
I don't know. I personally thought it's Tatooine but my source thinks otherwise. We have to wait and see, but so far he's been right on almost everything.

The suns in a binary system would be in different places in the sky during the year they would move east to west. But they would spread apart as the stars orbit each other. And the suns would be larger or smaller as the planet orbits. And that assumes that planet orbits both stars. If the planet orbits just one star in the system as the stars orbit eachother they would move all over the sky even night and day would be consistent. If the orbits are right you could even have the planet orbit both stars but in a figure 8. As the stars pull close the planet pulls from one stars orbit to the other.

Even the simplest orbit senario moves those suns in the sky a ton.

The Idiot's Array episode of Rebels caught my eye for the presence of moisture vaporators surrounding a fenced compound. Indicates moisture vaporators are not a sure indicator of any world possessing them being related to Tatooine.

One would assume that standard technology would be used in similar situations across the galaxy... it would be rather strange for Tatooine to have moisture vaperators and be the only desert planet to do so...

I think we're seeing a lot of redesigns of classic SW iconography, as suits the preferences of the film-makers to add a lick of fresh paint, but story functions remain the same. Stormtroopers, X-wings, TIE Fighters, flight-suits, the Falcon, etc ... no technological advances just surface refinements or augments. So, we may have a desert planet that is not called Tatooine but mirrors it in most ways. It's a crucible of important plotpoints, harsh terrain, scavengers, masked tribespeople, makeshift vehicles, junkpiles, roughneck settlements, stormtroopers etc.
