Folks have made the single sun argument, and maybe this is a stretch, but wouldn't a planet that revolves around binary suns experience a double lunar eclipse twice a year? Maybe those suns are lining up. Just food for thought. One visible sun or not, I still think it's Tatooine for now.

I'm still going with it being Pasher.

EDIT: Well, thanks to @Pomojema's insight, I'm on the Tatooine side of the fence now.

Reading an advance copy of Heir To The Jedi right now, I read that the planet also has jungle biomes, so it's probably not that. It could be the planet of the jungle set that was seen at Pinewood Studios, though.

Thanks for the info. Since there seems to be conflicting info on the planet, do you think that it is possible that initially it was planned that the planet was not going to be Tatooine but then at some time later they changed course and decided to make it Tattooine.

I meant in the opening of E4, there's a really close moon to Tatooine.

I think the development of this planet is going to be interesting if it isn't Tat.

Couple things on my mind while skimming through this thread. I usually don't post but i'm really trying to keep my mind off the fact that I have to take my wife to see 50 shades in a few hours.

    1. If it was a thawed hoth wouldn't the planet be a little less civilized this early on? The talz (thinking them from SWTOR know it's not canon though) and other lifeforms native to the snow planet would probably have to relocate and then desert folk would have to move in and build stuff and all that jazz. Seems a bit of a stretch to me.

    2. I know some of you are tired of seeing tat but it is the planet most closely associated with Star Wars to the masses. R2 and C3PO are the droids we all know, Skywalkers are the family, The falcon is the ship and tat is the planet. I think they are going to touch on all these in ep 7 which is why i think tat is the sand planet.

    3. The battlefront details/rumors recently released.

    4. I'm really trying to think of more but all I can think is "I hope 50 shades has atleast 1 lightsaber battle" so i'll end my rabble here.

Honestly the name "Tatooine" isn't mentioned in ANH at all. It's mentioned at the end of ESB and I believe that's the only reference to the name. The point I'm trying to make is that maybe there are conflicting reports because they don't actually reference the name "Tatooine" in the lines of dialogue but we are to assume it's Tatooine.

You can't just make two planets that look identical in the Star Wars universe. In my mind it has to be Tatooine and that was backed up in Jason's post about battlefront http://makingstarwars.net/2015/02/tons-star-wars-battlefront-rumors-links-star-wars-force-awakens/

I cannot think of another sand planet other than Tatooine, that sand is so familiar.

In my opinion sand planet is Tatooine. For me it is rather obvious.

And why would Rey be there, risking Imperial entanglement, if her remit is to keep a lightsaber hidden?

The problem is that we have a mountain of evidence saying it is... and a mountain of evidence saying it isn't... I agree from a storyline angle, Tat makes the most sense in some regards as it is what we are familiar with. However, I fail to see anything about Tat that would have made it worth that level of fighting for. The imperials just didn't have that big of a presence there, so they would have to have been attack it, and after the defeat of Endor, one would say that for them to commit that level of resources, and obviously to have lost... Disney got some 'splaining to do

This is the same argument of Plagueis being the villain... just because we can't think of anything doesn't mean they didn't... now I am not saying it is or isn't, as I said, there is a mountain of evidence both ways...

I don't think that is her mission at the beginning of the movie... there is rumor that BB-8 has the blade within it, and that BB starts the movie with Poe and falls into Rey's hands... but again, at this point, I think that is speculative

Maybe the Imperials have been using Tatooine as a training ground? Maybe the opening sequence will transpire to be a training exercise that Finn fails--a false start, like the opening of Monsters Inc. Not saying that would be good, but it could explain why there are AT-ATs lying around and why Finn and his squadies are dropped there.

Imagine Finn kicking off about torching a village and then Phasma revealing its just a robotic training scenario before ordering him court marshalled and taken to the brig. Yeah, I know--not sure how I'd like that either tbh, lol....

I think they left him behind because he was slow the sweat pouring him his face says it all, or falcon wiped the squad & he was the only who survived it running for his life hence the sweat also.

If Hoth melted it'd be a water world. Not a sand planet.
