SPECULATION Sand Planet - Confirmed to be "Jakku"

My instincts are Tatooine for all the right reasons save for the Imp equipment on the surface.

 

Looks like Tatoonie, no doubt it isn't. Seeing JJ is a fan of course he'd use Tatoonie, it's in SW 1 and SW 4.

 

Tatooine will always have a place in this trilogy.

 

I've said it before. Having a desert planet in TFA and it not be Tatooine is trying too hard. People do want to see new planets etc. But why not kick this trilogy off on familiar ground that all SW fans know and love.

 

It's probably Tatooine. For the average movie-goer, I think it would be too confusing for it not to be Tatooine. Plus you lose the potential for a lot of cool plot points that could spring up from a battle that occurred on Tatooine in between ROTJ and TFA.

No one is really sure why Luke went into seclusion. Before the "academy" rumors started floating around, there was another one about Luke having a moment where he became so powerful with the Force it scared him. I always though it would be cool if results of that moment were seen strewn all across the Tatooine landscape. Star Destroyers and AT-ATs Luke brought down with the Force in a Force Unleashed-type moment.

 

Cool, fingers crossed it is..........

If it is then it might explain a few things and some bits might begin to make a bit more sense.

 

And SW2, SW3, and SW6...

 

True but I said only 1 and 4 only due to the fact that they started the new trilogies on Tatoonie.

 

Totally agree. It would be interesting to hear about the battles in the desert involving those towering AT-ATs!

About the whole "Luke going into seclusion" thing, I like the rumor where he has a "scary moment" with the Force rather than the Jedi academy attack. For one, the latter opens up too many questions on who was involved, where are they now, etc., and it would have to be explained in flashbacks. But Luke's "Force Unleashed moment" theory is in line with the spiritual theme that this trilogy will be exploring: the fundamental nature of the Force and how it is changing and growing stronger. I know someone on this site (can't remember who) posted a fantastic idea about Luke after ROTJ. He said that instead of rebuilding the Jedi Order, Luke tries to understand what he's dealing with (the Force) and learn from the mistakes of the past (the PT Jedi). This seems far more intriguing than a random Sith attack which leaves several Padawans dead whom we know nothing about.

 

Battlefront 3 was cancelled. Do you mean the new Battlefront reboot?

 

I think the evidence points firmly in the direction of it being Tatooine.

1. The Kirby Buckets kid and his statement "recognize this planet?"
2. The new Battlefront game and info stating Tatooine Episode VII
3. Now this new picture that looks like Tatooine

I have pretty much felt like it is Tatooine since the statement in number 1 first came out and this new info just confirms my suspicions.

 

I agree, I would want to see new locations that are not eu based because I've seen many that are.

 

We are getting a new planet in the movie with the forest and snow. The other planet in the movie will be another established one

 

The planet represented where the Skellig shots were done could be a new planet as well

 

Yep a planet with snow & dark forests, maybe it's this sith lord's birth planet in that trailer he seemed to know his way around it.

 

Don't take rumors as conflicting when they do not directly contradict. For instance the "force unleashed" moment that scares Luke into hiding might be his response to an attack on the Jedi Academy. They might compliment. The 7 attack the jedi order. Luke is awoken from meditation runs out finds several padawans dead and a heated battle raging. Goes nova or does something that afterward scares him so he runs off.

 

Planet is not Tatooine.
