Agreed however there are a number of science problems with this Space Fantasy saga. Making a small moon around a gas giant a desert does not seem the biggest stretch they make.

I think it is Tattoine. Most of the interviews with people involved with the movie all give a similar story. They say that there will be a link to the OT but also be new and fresh. Besides the original cast there is no better tie in to the OT than Tatooine. I suspect we will see new planets in this movie. However, it does not seem to make a whole lot of sense to introduce a new desert planet when there is one as iconic as Tatooine. To do that would be an outright attempt to be different and all indications from JJ and staff want to make something new while being reverent to the past.

It's speculation at this point(12/2014) but it could make sense for the Kira(Daisy) character to be on Tatooine(but not near Mos Eisley/Owen's farm). She might really be Luke's daughter who is there in secret(covert reasons explained later).
I feel the point of Daisy's character being a twin(with the other girl dead 20/30 years ago) could be dramatic & make sense. Assassin scenes were common in the PT(not well made or clear IMO but that's another topic).

Daisy's warm embrace/hug scene might be Luke Skywalker when he re-appears with his trained Jedi(The Force Awakens! :) ).

I will close by saying Disney may want a ANH type story but Kasdan & Abrams might be more like TESB.

    I really don't think Kira/Daisy is Luke's daughter. I don't think Luke has children. Here's why:

    - It would take time to explain a past relationships for Luke, and that would be time wasted IMO
    - Leia and Han were last seen "falling in love", if anyone has had kids it makes sense it would be them
    - Luke has a story purpose, he is a Jedi Master; Leia's purpose isn't so obvious, mother to a Padawan gives her that
    - We've had 2 trilogies about the male bloodline, it's time to follow the female for a change and JJ will know that
    - Both Kira/Daisy and the Falcon have been seen over a desert planet, this implies a connection

Those are my own mind's thoughts....

So I play Star Wars Commander on iOS and today they released a new mission that takes place on Er'Kit. Er'Kit is a desert planet like Tatooine. Its color is a little more reddish than what we saw in the teaser. However, where R2 was picked up by the Jawas seemed more reddish than the rest of Tatooine. Not saying it is the planet but it does confirm there is more than one desert planet in the SW universe.

I didn't see the feature after the marathon due to technical problems but from what I understand is that it's not confirmed to be Tatooine. It was never mentioned to be. I guess I would expect it to be since it's been in the previous trilogies but hoping they could come up with something else.

I am disappointed that it's Tattione.

The reason being is that a galaxy has a something like over a billion stars, so surely there is more than one more planet with similar features?

This movie represents a great opportunity to broaden away from the small world syndrome in previous SW films... just hope it doesn't get tighter.

In past interviews (ca. 1980s) George Lucas said that Luke would have a love interest. In the EU (Legends) he has multiple love interests and a wife named Mara Jade and a son named Ben Skywalker. So its possible. But I agree that Daisy is not Luke's kid.

I'm not quite sure why everyone assumes that she is a Solo daughter. In my opinion, she is young enough to be their grand daughter.

I agree that SW shouldn't be coming back to the same desert planet, but if they need a desert planet in this film, it might as well be Tatooine. Hopefully they have a very good reason(major plot point) and it's not too contrived.

Why not a dessert planet? Mmm.

Don't be too sure. They didn't even say the word "Tatooine" in the exclusive.

I was literally going to post this comment. You beat me to it. I've enjoyed the new campaign. I was wondering when they were going to put Luke in the game, and he is awesome. Anyways, there are definitely now three desert planets (all slightly different) in the canon universe. Tatooine, Geonosis, and Er'Kit. I still think the planet in the movie is Tatooine.

30 years is not enough time to have a granddaughter the age of Daisy Ridley. The actress is probably 20-22 years old. Han and Leia's kid would have to father or become mother to a child at the age of 10 for that theory to make sense. I agree with you that the actors are definitely old enough to have grandchildren her age, but with the movie timeline it wouldnt add up. :)

It is Tatooine. I cannot understand the scepticism lol. Literally ALL of the evidence points to Tatooine. Is it that you guys are bored of seeing Tat or what?

EDIT: "remember that planet?" How can you remember something you've never seen?

I agree with you, but I think the confusion is with the "remember that planet" possibly meaning from the teaser. If that's true, it's just sloppy teasing and would have been easier to say "You know the planet from the trailer? We're on the set!"
Even that is lame. I would like a simple "Yes" tweet from Star Wars to stop the arguments about whether or not it is Tatooine.
... of course they will have to say what "yes" means otherwise we'll get fifty new debates it!

I posted before that Noura al Kaabi had said that Abu Dhabi was for Tatooine (on her twitter and on instagram), and I just found this video from a conference in November 2014 where she reiterates this. Either it's Tatooine or she was misinformed.

Daisy Ridley is 22. Only 30 years are said to have passed between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. There is no way she can be their grand daughter (unless Leia & Han had a child right after RotJ and that child begot Rey when they were 12 AND if Ridley is playing an 18 year old). If Adam Driver's character is the same age as the actor he was born right after the events of Return of the Jedi (this is another drop in the bucket to support the speculation that he could also be a Solo and Rey's older brother)

If Poe Dameron is close to Oscar Isaac's real age then he was born just before the events of A New Hope
