SPECULATION Sand Planet - Confirmed to be "Jakku"

Would that be cool to have a dessert planet in the Star Wars universe?

Wasn't "Kira" riding something that looked like a Fudgecicle in the trailer?

 

Kira's got her hussle on, handing out ice cream treats to the kids of Mos Espa.

 

Spoiler:
The "Ice Cream Man" may be a Sith Lord on the DL.

He was on Cloud City too during the Vader/Luke light-saber battle.

I'm of the opinion that the planet we're seeing is actually... the forest moon of Endor!

Hear me out. See, after the Death Star II was destroyed in ROTJ (SPOILERS!!! Sorry...) the rain of fiery debris caused an environmental cataclysm on the moon, resulting in global desertification. What we're seeing is a post-apocalyptic Endor.

That was no rumour - that was me speculating crazy-style, back on 7th Nov:

Look. Just because it's a sand planet doesn't mean it's Tatooine! It's sand. It gets everywhere....

 

I'd say we're looking at Tatooine. but I could very well be totally wrong.

 

This, I think, is a major problem of ours. Someone's speculation will turn into a rumor will turn into an established fact in about a fortnight. This weakens, IMHO, the purpose of having a spoiler/rumor/news forum.

Some sort of referenced spoiler/rumor/news list would've been good...

 

My space credits are that it is that damn Tatooine....
The recent spoiler/rumor dump seems to be fairly certain of that fact.
I feel strongly that to "freshen" things up, Mos Espa rather than Mos Eisley will be the cantina location.

After seeing all the various concept art of Tatooine locales - I'm guessing this structure:





Is the entrance to a larger city that is being CGI'd into the background. Ships must have to land outside the city maybe.

 

I speculated this as well though its a stretch. Not the Death Star but that the Luke caused force cataclysm caused large scale desertification of Tatooine. This shows not tells the costs of scale of Luke's power and why it scares him so. Further this explains the destroyed empire gear. At its height the Empire let Tatooine be a relatively lawless place the presencd of large scale assault vehicles .

 

I don't know about that one. I think parts of the landscape are meant to be barren. You can make this out in the trailer, and it looks just as it does in the photo.

If it's got the Hutt gates, the familiar barren wastelands, similar sky, sand, speeders...it's most likely Tatooine. I think a lot of people want it to be a different planet because they want a new world for a new trilogy. Tatooine has a sense of familiarity, a couple of the characters know it well. Why not return to Tatooine and explore another part of it?

Besides which, it's confusing as hell for the 75% of the movie audience that barely pay attention to what's going on. You know this happens for every movie.

 

Maybe they did that thing with the sun to blind us. JJ likes to make disinformation, so it is possible he wanted to hide the other sun in the teaser.

 

An extra sun may also very well be added inn later, to appear in the actual film although the teaser didn't have it. As I've said before, there's nothing to say that the desert world MUST be or CANNOT be Tattoine, although I personally think that's the most likely answer.

 

Id say the chance that Tatooine is the place of the WMD attack or Luke's rage is fairly strong.
Set rumors & internet posts say there is a scene with the main characters where they all run out of the desert bar & see a huge explosion/incident in the sky.
Also, in the teaser, the little soccer ball droid seems to be in a huge rush. Like a massive event or doom was going to happen.

 

I figured I would throw out more wild speculation.

Bespin is a gas giant with a habitable layer of the atmosphere where Cloud City floats. Orbiting Bespin are 4 moons. Two are icy named moons however another 2 are simply listed as "moonlets" on the wiki. Could it be that one of these previously un-mentioned moons is a barely habitable desert.

 

"Moonlet" basically means glorified asteroid, so I wouldn't count on it.
