The prequels have some really good bits, even though they are flawed films. Someone will undoubtedly make a film that will showcase how valuable they are to the series in general. I'm hoping someone will pitch a John Knoll type of story for the prequel as wells the Old Republic era.

If you feel inclined, you can read this TFN debate over here where I discuss various examples of that, and act like a complete ******** to everybody - this is where I got my first perma ban!

Glad to see so many people vote against this! While you may disagree with it, alot of people love the prequals and that should be respected.

I personally love the scope and originality of the plot, yes the dialogue is awful beyond words and their are far too many cheesy moments that make me grimace, but the lightsaber battles are awesome, and it should be kept cannon for the tragedy of Darth Plagueis the wise scene and the opening pan through the space battle at the beginning on Revenge of the Sith, which just makes every other space battle ever put on film look like a skirmish!

The Original Trilogy are flawed films. So are the two Disney films.

I can say the same about the other STAR WARS films.

I always thought how people reacted to the PT was a bit overly dramatic. Sure they aren't as good as the rest of the films but hey they sure the heck are far from the worst films in scifi I have ever seen. Erasing them would be stupid since they had some great moments and brought in some cool characters. The things id change tho is I wish George got someone else to direct as he has admitted he isn't that great at getting the best out of his actors. Also keep jarjar (yes I said that) but change his character to not act so dang silly.

There really isn't anything bad about the Prequels. Yeah, they're not as good as the OT, but they're still great. People complain that the dialogue isn't that great, but remember, the series is a Space Opera. A Space Opera's definition is: "A novel, movie, or television program set in outer space, typically of a simplistic and melodramatic nature." Star Wars has a lot of melodramatic moments and as a result, the dialogue is often a bit odd, which fits for George Lucas, as he's said that he isn't the best at writing dialogue, but this melodramatic writing works for him. I think this is important not only to know about Lucas, but for Star Wars itself, particularly Episodes I-VI, the films he was really involved with.
Especially when you realize that Anakin had to repress his feelings for 10 years, since that's how long the time between Episodes I & II are, and he had the first 9 experiencing feelings, and then you have to repress them, only to be feeling love and even lust when he meets Padme after not seeing her for a decade. He grew up most of his life now, not using his feelings he had 10 years prior. And since the only other time he felt love, was for his mother, but that's a different kind of love. This love Anakin feels for Padme, is a new feeling he has, and as a result he doesn't know how to properly express his feelings towards her in a way that isn't creepy.
Luke was able to keep his feelings in check, as he grew up in an enviroment where he was surrounded by love from his family and friends. Most of Anakin's life wasn't like Luke. And while Luke may seem whiney, we can see from the diolague with him and Owen that anytime he expresses any interest to do something that isn't moister farming and do something that's worth while and something good, Owen shoots down that idea and Luke basically quits thinking like that as long as he can. Luke then found out about the Force, Jedi's and all this stuff at the age his father was in Attack of the Clones. If Anakin was raised in a similar environment as his son the first 19 or 20 years of his life and then learned about Jedi's, the Force and all the stuff Luke found out and discovered, perhaps things would've been different, but if they were, then we probably wouldn't have Darth Vader.

The prequels are bad films with great bits. They are bad films that I love. I'll admit that they are bad films, but erasing them is going just a bit far. The filmmakers / Lucasfilm understand why the prequels were not well received. They are fully aware of this ( they are self aware haha ). They will pull the good things from the prequels and make better films in the long run, because they grew up with the prequels just like all the hard core fans. Some of them became filmmakers because of Star Wars, maybe in the next 50 years they'll reboot the the whole thing but for now the prequels are here to stay whether you love them or hate them.

I've heard that ppl don't agree that OB1 is the perfect Jedi. Ob1 had feelings for Satine but he stated in the Clone Wars that if she gave the word he would have left the Order. He knew that if he engaged in a relationship with Satine that he would not be living the Jedi way. Anakin stayed in the Order even though he got together with Padme. And that is why he fell. He thought only of himself. Ob1 understood that this was wrong, its not the Jedi way. Nuggets like that are why the prequels can not be erased.

Yes. Also, I'm trying to shed some light as to why the things in the prequels aren't nearly as bad as people say, as a lot of people dislike them for the odd dialogue in particular. That's also why I sighted the definition of Space Opera, the genre which Star Wars is in.

"Sure they aren't as good as the rest of the films . . . "? What do you mean by that? Are you merely stating an opinion or are you assuming that this is a fact?

And why do some of you keep posting your opinions about the Prequel movies as if they are facts? Do you believe everyone agree with your views?

Some people here seem to lack any discernment when it comes to dialogue "quality", or different tones like "melodramatic"... oh well

I, personally, dislike the prequels because their very flawed execution hides a really great story and my heart aches just thinking about what they could have been.

Having said that, the answer to the original question is no, of course not and never - they are part of the Saga, made by the original creator, regardless how some of us feel about them. Their story is important and they are potential for the future creators - and make no mistakes, there will be future creators who will try their hand at this material.

I, in fact, envy people who love, or just like, the prequels. I would love to have more movies to love and obsess about. :D

I have made my peace with them - they are what they are and there is, really, nothing more to say about them. Some people like them, some people don't, period.

We are in the special moment in time when we have a new Star Wars movie ever year, new book every few months, new comic every week. The more we get, more opinions will there be. We better get used to that.

I grew up with the Prequel films and I love them. They certainly have their faults though and I appreciate that.

For example.. if I were to introduce someone to Star Wars for the first time, I'd tell them to start with the Original Trilogy, and then go to the Prequels. I was watching Revenge of the Sith before seeing Rogue One with a bunch of friends and sometimes I cringe during it. The complete overuse of CGI is terrible and some of the dialogue/acting is bad. But I still do respect and indeed love them.

Should the Prequels be canon-wiped or remade? No. Never. I love the Prequels for what they are.

The originals were more collaborative in the way they were written and acted - so, in a way, 1-3 could be compared to something like Shatner's Kirk novels: a member of the original team (in this case the main one) breaking off and then continuing on his own.

But these trivia aside, what's this whole obsession with "The Saga" anyway? It's hard to view these "6 films" as such a unified, unalterable entity when you can clearly see how things were changed or made up on the fly and oftentimes don't fit together.

Also... you need to go into your brain, search for that part that's saying "ERASING FROM CANON MEANS THE MOVIE DISAPPEARS FROM EXISTENCE AND I CAN NEVER WATCH IT AGAIN OH NO", and then rip it out because it's nonsense: if they make another 3 movies that match the originals better, there'll be a huge benefit, and exatly 0 harm to anything at all.

Remaking the prequels would be as close to erasing them as possible. Then again, remaking them would be the same thing as remaking any other part of the saga. The reimagining can go both ways to serve each other too. Also the prequels made a ton of movie, so it's not like they were failures. There's a reason Disney isn't touching them but rather move forward

I agree with you there, Star Wars has a far more reaching impact than a sharper novel
