I'm saying based on the story they were telling, Leia was more likely to die before Poe, and Luke was more likely to die before Rey (which he did).

At that point, neither Finn nor Rose had plot armor like Rey and Poe had.

NO. Why do people feel that Finn needed to die?

Yes, he should have died. It’s so predictable that they were going to kill off the classic characters. It would have been far less predictable if they had killed off one of the new ones

Other then super old Yoda & Obi everyone good survived the OT. Luke, Leia, Han, Lando, 3P0, R2 Chewbacca, Heck even Wedge.

If they want 2 make a big deal & not repeat a minor yet noticeable gripe about the OT, kill somebody good in the ST from the "nu kids".

Kill Poe or Fin or Rey or Maz or BB8 or the "Wedge" of the ST Lt. Connix.

    Kill 1 of em.

If they killed off Finn then it would have cemented TLJ as the most ruthless SW film to date. We already had the massacre of the Resistance and the utter failure of all of the heroes (and villains to some extent!) The sometimes overbearing use of humour was probably included to expressly counter the fact that so much misery occurs throughout the film.

On another note, if they kill Finn off then we have only one Rebellion POV character in Poe. If we open up EPIX with Leia's funeral as I suspect they might, then we will need to see the building of a new rebel alliance. Therefore we need everymen like Finn and Rose to show this perspective. On a personal note, my initial reaction to the Rose saving Finn moment was a big eye roll, however on reflection I can see why it is important to keep these characters around.

He's a main/secondary character, so killing him would make no sense.
I think Poe is more likely to die somewhere in this series since he still has no connection with the main character.

This is just a stupid question. Either the writer learns to write better or get out of the business. I would have nothing to do with a writer that would so easily give up. Do better or get out.

Finn is one of the main characters of this trilogy. Why are we having this discussion in the first place?

    It's a well placed question.

But only episode IX can answer.

If it seems the writers still don't know what to do with him, then the answer was yes.

If in Episode IX, he comes out better then he did TFA and TLJ, the answer is no.

yes let the past die... kill it. They don't know what to do with him. He should have died in TLJ... but Rose saved the DUMMY... It would have been a fitting end. I don't want Finn to end up being a General Binks, or end his arc like Binks, a clown, sadly in Aftermath... still I'm optimistic that Jar Jar Abrams will end Finn's arc in EPIX heroically.

It would have worked better if Rey and Chewie flew in to stop Finn. She could have shot his wing or something and put him out of commission and that would have much more emotional resonance than Rose. More believable too and it wouldn't have led to the absurd love monologue.

But Rian doesn't understand emotional resonance or story logic.

It would have evoked Han saving Luke at the end of ANH in a cool way too.

Well he is certainly not a main character in TLJ : just give me one example where one of his choices / actions actually impacted the story.

I think it was stupid of him to even attempt suicide. It was only put in there so Rose could save him and the romance could begin. I like the concept of that scene, it just didn't turn out well.

I didn't want him to die, but i wanted him to go through with it. That is why is was building to such an emotionally powerful moment. To have Rose crash into him like that just ruined the moment.

People here have said that Finn was attempting to do something rash and reckless and thus should have been stopped. I think that's nonsense, there is no shame in heroically trying to protect people and a cause that are dear to you.

And why was Roses action any more noble or right? She was trying to save someone she cared about just like Finn was except she could have killed them both without the upside of saving others and protecting the remnants of the resistance. Her action was just as reckless, more selfish, and less for the cause.
