the thing that you said was "in the article" was not in the article in any way shape or form, it was in a reply towards the article...

In my opinion only force users should be able to really fight with lightsabers and I guess the cinelinx guy mixed up something. Probably the FO trains their guys with vibroblades, not lightsabers and we will here something like:

Maz: "Take care, a lightsaber is as dangerous to its wielder as it is to its target."
Finn: "Meh, Phasma made as train with vibroblades a lot... how different can it be?"

...and then Kylo will show him the difference in their fight.

Should lightsabers be special, IMO only to those who first wield them being passed on is not the way as those who had seen it being used in their generation remember the user being different, as to what to do with it once the user is dead I would bury it on the planet it's kyber crystal came from.

I meant the lightsaber should only belong to it's creator, sorry if I wasn't clear the whole passing down I disagreed with it after Obi Wan gave Luke Anakin's lightsaber it's like the lightsaber wanted to be lost when it made the great fall on cloud city.

See now this is intriguing. I have to think about that one. I tend to forget that light sabers are one with the force.

I have always viewed lightsabers as being something intensely personal, something that others can use but only truely belong to its creator. Something distinct and unique between each individual.

Yea I agree it's a very intimate relationship between saber and creator.. That to me is good plot incentive. Those who view them as a presence in the force and not just a mere instrument as opposed to those who may wield them simply for military combat (first order training).

They are something that should be very special to its creator and should remain that way in the ST. If they go the path of some stormtroopers being trained in dueling it should be explained that they trained using vibroblades, as @animarcity stated earlier, then them being trained with sabers. The idea of everyone being able to train with and use lightsabers takes the special aspect about them away.

I'm in agreement. The two sides, the force spiritual/military first order lightsaber use needs to be fully distinguishable in order for the light saber to retain it's sacredness. The idea of a sacred weapon being synthetically manufactured needs to be viewed as trespass. I would advise people to expect some serious shockers regarding these issues in TFA. JJ has longed to make the star wars film of Mcquarrie's original concepts.

Using a lightsaber is not that different from using a katana. You can pick it up and cut stuff up with it easily. But swing it around like a swordsman and you'll be missing a body part or two. Not to mention that the laser blade is weightless. Come to think of it it's much more like swinging a flashlight around.

I remember Luke in one of the EU books telling a student of his to be careful because "those things can be tricky".

Exactly. I would be rather disappointed if they made the lightsaber into "just another weapon"

Yea so true. They need to have it where when the jedi look upon storm troopers wielding those things, they make fun of them and utter sarcastic remarks toward them in combat so as to degrade them for ever even considering such a thing.

God, I hope that lightsaber will never end up as mass produced tool for stormtroopers.

I have my own views but it's funny to read everyone's views as well. We will see very soon which is the bright side of this speculation. I remember when it was me posting in the cantina and still having like a year plus to go. Don't put it past JJ to push the envelope. He's known for it when it comes to directing for already established franchises. (star trek)

That is to much emphasis on the lighsaber we shouldn't forget that he got that lighsaber from a random Jedi in the arena of AotC. I would be fine if its just a tool or a symbol that anyone can wear but truly shines in the hand of a force user. Conicaly we have seen everything: kids ith trainig lighsabers, a mercenary without force abilities using a darksaber, a cyborg that killed some Jedi and kept their lighsabers.looks like it didn't help those Jedi to have crafted their lighsabers, so why introduce this idea. George Lucas said it himself that it is just a symbol.
