If Disciple of Plagueis thinks this movie is garbage then that's his opinion.
The same goes the other way around.
He clearly didn't enjoy TLJ and to make him say otherwise we would only make him lie about it.
Many people loved it and many people hated it, Nothing is ever 100%.
    Live with it.
I happen to like TLJ but that doesn't mean I'm not critical about it.

I have no issue with someone disliking the film. Calling all of it garbage is hyperbole.

I would be of the school of thought that says some works of art merit objective sentimental responses, but that's for another thread.

As for the Rey's parents thing, I don't think they could meaningfully double back on the idea that they are nobodies. My real question is whether they are actually dead. I could see some wiggle room left for that. Maybe she's even DJ's kid.

Glad you clarified that word, English isn't my first language and I confused it with Hypocrite.
So yeah he feels very strongly about it and maybe likes to exaggerate about it.

Your opinion doesn't bother me though, why should it, I happen to like the movie.
And I'm not defending him but accept his opinion that TLJ just isn't his cup of tea.

No not at all. Both fanboys and haters of this movie are equally incorrect. Its a good movie, a bad sequel and a meh setup to IX. But I have seen you discredit userpolls and negative feedback (even moderate one) in other threads so I though I might remind you to not judge peopel so harshly. What they consider garbage you probably consider a masterpiece. Both is equally biased.

The online polls are unscientific. That's just a fact. I'm sorry you disagree with the science behind statistic modelling. I don't consider this film a masterpiece. I did enjoy the film. My issues are largely with the entire trilogy story. I don't like the First Order. The Starkiller base was lame. There are valid criticisms. Attack of the Clones was a pretty poor film and probably the worst Star Wars film, but it wasn't complete garbage. To suggest otherwise is hyperbole.

There are two schools (at least) who don't like Rey's powers. The smaller one I believe is the bloodline one. The other is her lack of training or explanation to her power.

I can accept that she's another chosen one or something less than that... I can't accept that she can do things that has literally taken EVERY other Jedi we've ever met years to be able to use, and even then it wasn't full proof.

Next thing you know Rey will meet up with a Hutt and be able to use Jedi mind trick on it because you know... she just rolls that way. Then we'll have everyone on here arguing if she should be able to or not.

All three central figures were nobody force sensitive people. The only difference between the first two and Rey can do anything just by thinking about it and the boys needed to train for years to do a fraction of what Rey is doing a week into her "training".

Anaking flew pods and presumably raced other vehicles before that. As a pod racer he never finished a race until the movie, though he was considered good.

Luke was a good pilot with little to no combat experience. Han saved him before he was shot down and got a lucky shot with a Force ghost riding shot gun for him, helping focus him.

Rey does mind tricks a mere days after knowing a Force exists, then she force removes more rubble than Yoda did (and struggled with) within days of receiving a very quick lesson on the Force from a reluctant Jedi master.

Either Rey is a dark force user, taking the quick and easy path, or she's another chosen one on steroids.

I have issue with the idea that if one side of the force is stronger then the opposite spectrum must equalize. For all the people who enjoy The Last Jedi and their direction of opening up more opportunities for force sensitives outside of the Skywalker perspective this new idea of dark/light balance is just as limiting. If there must be even strength between dark and light then we will always be limited by needing to have an equal in the force. Then it would seem the only way to really get rid of this would be to actually erradicate the force which would then ruin the magic behind Star Wars.

If Rey kills Kylo then someone new will need to rise in the darkness and the opposite is true as well. The other solutions is they both live which means either Reylo will have to be a thing OR there will be constant conflict because of the dichotomy between the force.

Although I don't mind Rey and Ben coming together if in fact Rey has no parental ties, there's a lot of story elements that just don't lend credence to it. Ben has murdered Rey's surrogate father Han Solo and almost killed Finn (this is an issue I have with The Last Jedi, there is nothing to Finn being horribly wounded by Kylo). Rey should be way more conflicted towards Ben but she's not and it diminishes Han's demise in The Force Awakens.

I've seen many people explain Rey's power in this way. That she's the Yin to Kylo's Yang. And I have to ask, are you willing for that to become the precedent? Because it brings a lot of questions from the first 6 movies.

Why did Luke need to go to Dagobah to train with Yoda? After Ben's death, wouldn't he just become powerful to counter Vader?

Why do padawan's exist? Shouldn't they just automatically become competent in the force to counter the dark?

Why did Anakin need Obi Wan? If he was the "chosen one" who would bring balance to the force, shouldn't he have automatically been powerful enough to do it right away?

Why were there hundreds of Jedi in the PT when the Sith adhered to the "Rule of Two"? Shouldn't there have only been 2 Jedi to counter?

Agreed, it puts a giant plot hole in the whole saga if this is the case.

This is exactly what I mean when I say: Why does Rey have to be so powerful? There is no reason for her to be such an extraoridnarily talented nobody. She could be an average Jedi, just like Kanan and still function in the story of TFA and TLJ. I have a difficult time seeing Rey lift hundreds of massive stones and at the same time not questioning Yoda's training methods and Luke's talent as a student. And for what? Why not simply let her split a stone in half like we have seen her doing it on Anch-To to free the resistance trapped in the caves below. Scenes like the one on Crait risk the continuity of the Canon for a brief moment of impressive visuals.

Thank you for letting me know.

Now go back 2 pages and let the posters saying they hate the prequels and they are garbage the same thing.

    Anyways.

    Exactly

There will be no literal explanation. Because Rian Johnson said so.

Once again to quote George Lucas

“There’s more to it than just spaceships,” he says. But his biggest concern about the ever-expanding universe? That “the Force doesn’t get muddled into a bunch of gobbledygook.”

I honestly don't have a problem with her being so powerful, I just need an explanation as to why.

Absolutely. You know my favourite explaination for her immense power would be that Snoke is responsible for it. We have seen how powerful force ghost Yoda was in TLJ and I like to think of Snoke as someone who was trapped in his crippled and decaying body. He wanted Kylo to kill him thereby freeing him of his crippled shell to become even more powerful like an evil Obi Wan. He continues to manipulate Kylo knowing he has feelings for Rey so he orchestrates Rey's journey and thus Kylo's. Maybe it was Snoke helping Rey on Starkiller Base and Crait. We have seen him smash Hux on the ground over a huge distance. Maybe he helped Rey to succeed because he needs her to push Kylo into fullfilling what Snoke had planned all along...

That’s not how I see it. It is about bringing balance which for me is about the light rising to meet the darkness and stopping it from taking over.

In the first 6 films the imbalance was caused by the rise of the Sith. Once they took over, evil was everywhere and this meant the galaxy was in despair. The Force imbalanced. When Anakin destroyed the Sith, balance returned. He did what he was born to do.

It’s the same with rey. Her power is there for her to bring balance. That may mean destroying Ren. But it could mean redeeming him.

So the way I see it is that good and evil will always exist. Bad people will always seek to use the force to take over. But when they try it, the light, as in the jedi, will rise to meet it and prevent it from taking over.

Rey’s story is a continuation of what we saw with Anakin. The difference I believe will be in that she will end the Dark legacy of Vader for good (The FO and Ren being the result of Vader’s actions). Then when she does this, new stories can be told and the Skywalker’s can RIP...

This seems odd. For 1000 years the Jedi were completely dominating the galaxy (in terms of having the authority on how the force should be interpeted). There has been an imbalance concering the light side for a millenium and the force didn't react. If anything Anakin brough the balance (Palps and Vader vs Obi and Yoda) and Luke destroyed it. So why would the force create Luke when there was already an equilibrium in the OT?

I like that idea, or some variation of it, as my other big problem with TLJ is how Snoke was handled. Something along these lines would shore up the holes from TLJ and make it a much better movie in my opinion.

Remember when they explained Anakin was strong because of his blood count and because he was space Jesus? I think I'm fine with powerful light and powerful darkness. There was an awakening in the force and it was in Rey.

Yes but Anakin still required training & after approximately 13 years of training was still unable to defeat Obi Wan. I think that's people's main issue with Rey...that she has received barely any training, yet is still as powerful a Jedi as we've ever seen. If there had been a small time jump between TFA & TLJ, where in the scroll it mentions Rey has been training with Luke, you'd hear no complaints from me. But instead we're supposed to believe she is this good at the force when like a week ago in movie time she thought it was a myth
