Problem is he said he didn't even read them.

The level of lunacy in this movie. The few things they attempted to explain is still idiotic. But they stop a battle scene to explain that Finn has to put his speeder stick in the dirt for some reason. This was important information.

Chosen by the force! Chosen by the light! Chosen to help create balance! No prophecy. No virgin birth. Just someone from Jakku that through the force has risen to take on the darkness.

Ah yes so one dark forceuser equals a light chosen one stronger than Anakin. Got it, makes sense.

I took it that she was likely in essence a slave until she learned to look after herself. I guess her parents had no money but owed Plutt so they gave her to him saying she could work for him and salvage things - pretty good deal. They might’ve even said they would come back for her. So not technically a slave. He didn’t own her. But he may as well have because she worked like a slave for pittance.
Luke was comparing her power to Ren’s, as @techsteveo pointed our above.

Secondly, yes Rey is a sort of chosen one. Her power is a reaction to Ren’s. She awoke the light. He awoke the dark. They’re equals.

It's odd to me that people view Star Wars films like they're a super complicated math equation when they've always been targeted towards 12 year olds. Your complicated theories don't make sense. This isn't Hamlet. There have been 8 episodes and they've all been kind of shallow if we're being honest. I don't care. I love them for what they are... super entertaining space western fantasy films.

Can you be a bit more specific? Why are we talking about Finn’s speeder now? Or are you just bagging on the whole film again because you didn’t get it?

Slavery seemed to work different on that planet..
She could keep whatever she finds useful to survive.

And she was not someone to be trifled with then, not even by Plutt.

Yes I get it. Rey is Kylo's counterpart, that isn't hard to see. It does not explain however why she is so freaking powerful. Not in the slightest. She could be just a normal Jedi with a normal learning curve and normal growth of power. Kylo himself isn't that powerful is he? Without Rey he would have been killed by Snoke, hell even Snoke's praetorians. I understand why Rey needs to rise and battle Kylo. But why did they have to give her such ridiculous powers to meet the relatively benign threat that is Kylo. He isn't an Emperor and Vader. Luke would have to be a superhero in the OT if the light reacted to any rise of the darkness that way. Rey is inconsistent with what we learn about the force in previous canon stories and I seriously hope there will be an answer for why she is so powerful.

It’s worse than that. People talk about these characters like they’re real - and that they’re related to them.

Bloody weird if you ask me.

The literal interpretation by some of you guys is crazy. @master_shaitan explained why she can be viewed as a slave. Not just a literal one, but a slave to her daily routine to stay alive. Scavenge, trade to Unkar for food, repeat.

Some people care about thought out storylines and have an issue if the Canon, which has been established through decades of movies and shows, is destroyed just so that you can have one seriously overpowered character who would work just as well if not better if she was just an ordinary Jedi. If you don't have a problem with Rey being a force genius so be it. But don't be surprised if the sudden discovery of force abilities will turn into deus ex machinas in future SW movies. "I can crush a whole Star destroyer with the force. Because there's this sith you see so the force made me a chosen one who is more powerful than all the chosen one's before me for some reason"

And so did the force apparently.

This is even worse because what threat would a pre adolescent child be to space junkyard alien guy.

Then 99.9% of the people alive on this plant can be classified as a slave. Where are my force powers.

The problem is you’ve made up your mind and are not open to the explanations provided. For you, Rey doing a mindtrick on a stormtrooper and going toe to toe with an injured and conflicted Kylo Ren, for some reason, goes against your head canon. I can’t change your mind on that. I haven’t seen anyone crush a star destroyer with the force though so not sure what point you’re making there...

No, that makes me a geek. Not being able to like a film because Luke Skywalker was a bit depressed is weird.

As a child she was no threat, but as a young adult she knew how to defend herself.

    You're getting it.:p

Well I guess not all geeks are alike. If that would be the only reason I did not like this film.......

I'm sorry. I will simply. Yes the entire film is garbage.

It's impossible to reason with a person who is unreasonable. To say the entire film is garbage is silly hyperbole.
