So, who thinks Ackbar will say "It's a trap"?

I mean he did say it in the Star Wars Aftermath novel. Why not make it his catchphrase lol

 

Personally I hope they show some restraint and not use the line. It has become self-satire by now and will take me out of the movie.

I don't want them recycling great OT lines in the ST. I feel it's lazy writing cause its an easy attempt to rekindle nostalgia which may work on its initial viewing but look cheesy years later.

I agree as that's different simply its been established in every movie. 'I got a bad feeling' is no different then the opening crawl as it HAS to be in every SW movie so its not a cheap attempt at nostalgia.

Ugh, I'd hate that. New catchphrase, people! It's enough we'll probably get an "I love you"/"I know" reprise.

 

I don't want them be like a Terminator sequel and repeat memorable lines, after all, it's a Star Wars movie, and they could do a lot of that. However, it's the line that Ackbar is best known for, so I think he'll have to say it. We only have so many returning characters. It'll either be Ackbar saying "It's a trap!" or C3PO saying "We're doomed!" They didn't do too much of it in Jurassic World (pretty much just visual homages, even though there were some references to Chaos theory in dialogue). Star Wars should be like that, striving to create an original story with good writing, but reminding us of the masterpieces that started the franchise.

 

exactly. just think about the terminator franchise and arnold saying he will be back before jumping out of a helicopter japanese animation style ... *CRINGE*

yes but only if it does not break the 4th wall. because thats what these quotes do most of the time unfortunately.

 

They did two "bad feeling" lines in Empire, which was weird. But yes, it wouldn't be Star Wars without that line.

 

Ackbar will say it, and people will like it... whether they like it or not.

He'd better not. It'd be stupid. This isn't his "catchphrase", it was something he said in a specific situation.

The only running inside "jokes"/"references" with dialogue should be the "I've got a bad feeling about this" line, that's it.
