Why do you think Star Wars VIII was pushed back to december 15, 2017?

  1. To push it further away from Rogue one.

  2. To allow more time to make a better movie.

    I've said that the new trilogy is being rushed. TFA was most definitely rushed through and it showed. Arndt said 18 months to write. JJ and LK did it in 6 weeks.
    Same thing happening with VIII. They doing a botch job.

    December did work out very well for them, being the only big dog during that time. I just hope it's not true because that's a lot more time to wait!

    In an official press release, Lucasfilm explained the change:

    Star Wars: Episode VIII, originally scheduled for release on May 26, 2017, will now debut on December 15, 2017. The move follows the extraordinary success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which was the first Star Wars movie to premiere in December.

    Right.. quite the opposite. It's being DELAYED, not rushed. I think Ep. 8 will be even better than 7 now that everyone's got their feet on the ground.

    Rushing the trilogy. They needed more time before TFA to sit down and work this thing out. But they wrote themselves in knots for the that film and then started VIII in the same vein. Now they're likely reworking a script during filming and getting in a mess. It cannot be argued against that TFA was full of inconsistencies. I was hoping they'd take a more measured approach with VIII. I'm glad they've put it back though.

    not to derail the thread or anything, but like what? i'm asking because i didn't feel this sense of "rushed" except where Phasma was concerned perhaps (and that's not an inconsistency, just a missed opportunity).

    While I agree they should have spent more time planning before actually making SW movies, you've seem to already judged Ep. 8 before actually seeing it. We have every reason to believe it will be better than Ep. 7 in just about every way, which was already a great film. This is good news.

    they got feedback of how much we liked Rey, Finn, Poe and Kylo Ren and what we liked about them. Of course they are going to do a rewrite. And they should. I think the may release date was a pretty bad choice in the first place. It's just to quick after Rogue One. The audience and critics will become oversaturated by releasing two star wars movies in such a short span. It's better in december, from now on I'll associate Star Wars with Christmas!

    I'm still struggling to get, looking at the film, why people wanted this.

    It would've ruined the ending.
