    I think the added screentime for Rey will inevitably benefit Luke as well since she will most likely be training with him for at least part of the movie if not interacting with her later on

    thankfully VII basically makes him the yoda figure. Thus if Rey's training is actually being expanded upon in the rewrite then they can use Luke more without this concern.

    Rewrites are normal. It's not a bad sign. JJ/Kasdan were writing while filming too, so I suspect Rian will.

    Isn't the shooting schedule still beginning in Feb?

    Yeah, but now with TFA, the three new leads have managed to establish a strong relationship with the audience.
    We all loved Luke before, but now we love Rey, too.

    So I think it's safe to say that, at this point ( regardless of their actual blood relationship,*cough* ) every scene he shares with Rey now becomes about them, instead of just him.

    ( Always two there are - a master, and an apprentice. Oh, wait, that's the Sith. Whatever )

    So yes, I think he should get plenty of screen time. He also needs some scenes with the droids and Leia, too.

    If I had the option, I'd vote "neither". To me, it's almost all about marketing, for the reasons that Viral Hide posted about on the front page.

    They are starting principal photography in February, and there is some amount of rewriting going on, so at most it "needed" a one month delay. That isn't a bad thing. Maybe they believe they own December now. TFA was moved back from May to December, and it didn't seem to hurt it at all.
