OFFICIAL NEWS Star Wars Episode VIII Delayed until 12/15/17

Discussion in 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' started by Rieekan, Jan 20, 2016.

?

Why do you think Star Wars VIII was pushed back to december 15, 2017?

  1. To push it further away from Rogue one.

  2. To allow more time to make a better movie.

  3. Both.

Marketing, Disney now owns Christmas by default. Clever people over there....

I don't have any problem with them pushing the opening date back. I'm sure it was a combination of sharpening up the script and having more time in post and distancing itself from Rogue One. Since the success of TFA in December, I've been saying a December release date is better, financially speaking. Less competition, kids out of school and adults off from work and it ties in perfectly with the holiday season = more merch being sold.

Oh dear, Lord. Noooooo. J-Law. I'm out! I agree with the idea that Christmas = Star Wars. I like it a lot. Sure, there may be some tweaking to the script, but I think this is more of a positioning/marketing move. If it so happens we get a better script as a result, I'm all for it. Keep the over-saturation minimized.

That's not how it works though... the rendering is refined over time. Just look at the difference on the flag in the FO rally in teaser 2 vs. trailer 1 as an example.

Whatever script changes they were making, I am pretty positive that they are already done - we are only now hearing about them. I think decision was made to give Johnson more time for post-production AND to give Rogue One time to live.

Also, they might have thought things through and decided that there is such a thing as too much of a good thing - they don't want to tire the general audience. We are going to watch everything - the general audience (which makes them most of the money) needs a little breather. :)

I really hope there's a slower pace for the next movie. I enjoyed the pacing of TFA, but I agree with providing more breathing room.

So concise it needed to be posted thrice.:)
RotS suffered from rewrites/reshoots, Anakin's turn was pushed back and left it feeling far more rushed onscreen than what the Novel presented. What concerns me at this time is two weeks ago JJ came out and said the script was so awesome that he regretted not directing it. Fast forward to yesterday, NOW the script is being rewritten and the traditional release has been scrapped altogether.

    Something doesn't seem right.

I've watched "Looper". Rian's style will be slower.

Well yeah that's why I said IF and the advances of VFX. I've seen some videos I'll have to look up later about Arian using extremely advanced Pre-viz techniques that pretty much shows what the end results will look like but yeah...of course it will continue to change and refine the most minor details until the end of time .

I doubt that it's a full-on rewrite. It seems more like just tweaking/moving things around here and there. I think that the general story will remain the same.

You're talking about Rian right? I'm guessing this would have been for Looper?

Though I hope they spend more time on the filming / production side of things this time around. Lawrence of Arabia took almost a year to film, in today's dollars it would be something like 500 million budget wise. Why not go all out?

Because even THAT'S not worth it to Disney...although that's what the cost of some of their movies might have added up to after marketing/PR/Distribution Costs for TFA .
