SPECULATION Star Wars Episode VIII Teaser

There's a huge chance that people who are going to see R1 will also see ep VIII so my guess is that it's no need for a trailer. And it will ( IMHO ) pull people out of R1 story and think about ep VIII during the movie.

I know that we are all desperate to see something for ep8, but i just don't see the positives in attaching a trailer for it to R1.

Not long to wait folks. xmas and R1 around the corner and then the slow build up to episode 8 will start

Well R1 is before christmas so they might release one on Christmas .

although remember how we found out about TFA title, it was just a random tweet! They didn't attach it to anything.

I still don't think we see footage till celebration. Does anyone think they'd give us the title and announcement teaser in Jan/Feb and then give more in April? I just can't see it.

Also don't forget that london celebration was criticised for being so "hush hush" on RO and VIII, Kristian and Perri from Collider talked about some of the issues they had with celebration months ago. I think they might make this year's celebration more like the VII one, thus more visual stuff held for celebration to make everyone go wild.

it's all about 'reach' these days on social media.

The title is far more difficult to keep secret than the details of a trailer... if you want to release the ep8 title at celebration they've got to start making physical posters and all sorts of marketing bits n bobs that's branded with the new title.

releasing the title the way they did for TFA while it was still a secret gave them the maximum 'bang' on the internet, and gave them their 'reach' targets.
make 1 image with the title in secret.. 1 tweet.. job done.

the folks at celebration will be wanting footage.. they will get it i'm sure. it would be a social media faux-pas to hold onto the title till April in my opinion.

 

February is a better bet than November/December in my opinion. But I'm not expecting anything until SWC in April..

They can't wait until April to reveal the title. It will leak by then. Toys, posters, tshirt, etc need to be made (if you think they won't have episode 8 merch at SWC, I can't help you). They aren't just going to sell a bunch of stuff with "VIII" on it 8 months away from release of the movie. Also, the toys, tshirts, etc, for the fall and Christmas will be in the midst of production in China or wherever (I work in supply chain logistics, and if you want to have an item on the shelves at Target or Walmart in August & September, that stuff gets produced in March April and May at the latest). The name of the movie will discussed at Toy Fair, etc.

LF will want the free publicity that comes with announcing the title. The surprise won't last any later than February.

We got leaks of Kylo Ren, Rey, Chewie, and BB8 toys early in 2015.

LFL can't control all information on VIII for much longer.

 

They could drop the title and the first teaser at christmas, to get those who have already seen R1 back into the theater.

 

Oh i agree re: title. I think the title will be out by January. My point about the title was that i don't think they will attach it to Rogue One sales as the title doesn't need to be attached to anything.

I just can't see how they release visual content (teaser/trailer) before celebration. The gap is too small to show new movie clips between Jan and April.

 

Episode 8's marketing campaign will begin once R1 has completed its theatrical run, end of January early February. I believe if R1 wasn't being released in December we would have gotten a title by now. I think Disney doesn't want to confused the general movie going audience, so we'll get the title by Feb. and a teaser by spring time.

 

My money is we get a title on January 17th and a teaser in March.

 

I think you're right, unfortunately.

8 weeks is a long time for us, but in their marketing timeline, it's pretty insignificant.

I'm holding out hope for 30 seconds of footage with the title kind of like November 2014 one for TFA.

 

This makes me a little more hopeful that there will be a title reveal in 2016.

 

Maybe on Black friday. I could see then using set footage in a video for the title reveal instead of an actual teaser. I think they will save the teaser for 2017.

 

Wonder if TSF means the title like "the Shadow Falls or Secret Fear" or maybe the Skywalker Family?...

 

I think we're all on the same page that we'll get a teaser/trailer in April on Celebration. And I think it's safe to say the final trailer will hit in October. So the question is, will the Celebration Trailer be the first one? Releasing something in Feburary or March would be too close to SWC. And there were also the rumors we'd get the first Rogue One Teaser with TFA, which they changed when the news came out.
So I'm pretty hopeful that our first look at Ep8 will come early in December. Could also help to tell even the last person that R1 is not a sequel to Ep7.
