SPECULATION Star Wars Episode VIII Teaser

It sound like something that could happen. Yes the teaser will not be released in December, and i feel sorry for the people who are expecting it.

 

There will be no VIII trailers before the release of Rogue One. It would cause confusement and distraction for Rogue One.

 

TFA title was announced on the 7th of Nov 2014 in a generic tweet which announced filming had ended


Rogue One was announced as the title on the 12th of March 2015 - well into TFA marketing.

They seemingly don't worry about title releases overlapping other movies. To leave VIII title unknown 8 months before release, i just can't see it. If we get anything early, it has to be the title.

I think it's obvious to most by now however that Celebration will be THE event for teaser/trailer content. There is no way we actually get a teaser before Celebration.

 

Let's compare and contrast the trailer release for the two Disney SW movies:

TFA:
Title revealed: October 2014
Announcement trailer or Teaser 1: end of November 2014
Teaser 2: SWC in April 2015
Photo shoot for Vanity Fair: May 2015 (there were like a dozen Annie Liebovitz photos including the cover with Han & Chewie in the MF cockpit.
Behind the scenes video: SDCC in July 2015

(which JJ lied and said was for the cast. It gave basically nothing away. If it had been meant to be shown only to the cast, it would have had more revealing shots in it. It was their way of showing something at SDCC and keeping the "mystery box" lid on tight. )
D23 in August featured Captain America Civil War footage, but no TFA....I'll chalk it up to LFL & Disney being worried about giving away how much of the film was a remake of ANH once the film had come together in editing and JJ's obsessive need for secrecy.

SWC is in mid April 2017.

December 16----April 17th with no big official SW news.....sounds unlikely. RO isn't going be the giant success that TFA was. It wont have a super long run



Also, releasing the title in mid-February with 30-45 seconds of footage makes for a perfect Super Bowl ad, which happens to be in February, 8 after RO is released and....8 weeks before SWC.

They can show a full teaser at SWC as well as show off costumes and have panels and appearances and all that.


8 weeks has shown to be the usual spacing of major SW news the last two years, and like a said in a recent post, they can't wait until SWC to reveal the title. Too many parties will be working on merchandise by Jan-Feb this year and while "Star Wars" will be the overall brand name, it still will have to have unique title printed on it.

LFL has done very well with limiting the outflow of EVIII information. I subscribe to the notion that probability of a secret being exposed is the number of people who know it squared. People talk. People leak. LFL can't wait until April to release the title if it wants to control it, and there's the Super Bowl, 7 weeks after the RO premiere just waiting with millions and millions of eyeballs.

Rogue One will open, then you have Xmas and New Years so it won't feel too soon to people.

Also, E8 is going to have to fight harder than TFA did to get promotional oxygen.

The movie calendar in 2017 is packed. They will have to start earlier to get people to understand how this movie fits into the overall galaxy far, far away.

It's a monster year for movies and this will be the third SW movie in three years. They will have to work harder to sustain interest and start early in the year.

I'm calling my shot with the title and 30 seconds of footage by Valentine's Day

 

We won't get a teaser or a title in December simply because we're getting Rogue One. Disney will not confuse or bombard the general movie audience with 2 different Star Wars movies. Once R1's theatrical run is complete by say late January early February we will get a title then a teaser. Most people don't know that Rogue One is a prequel or set before ANH. Star Wars fans like us must inform them. I want a teaser and title now like everyone else. I hope I'm wrong but we should have gotten a title by now. I think if Rogue One is a phenomenon and surpasses Cameron's Avatar and breaks all box office records then we might get ep.8 teaser with R1 down the line. By the end of February, the only people that will still care about R1 is us. The demand will be high for ep.8 info and the campaign will begin. As far as SWC there will be something special for attendees.

When I told someone at work that there was another Star Wars movie coming out in December. They were amazed like REALLY because they liked TFA. The next day he looked at me like some sort of star Wars wizard cuz I was privy to such news..

What would be the point of lying about the origins of the behind-the-scenes featurette? It seems far more likely that Lucasfilm produced a video that cast and crew could share with family and friends -- a video that wasn't too revealing. Lucasfilm liked the final result, so they shared it at Comic Con.

 

Last month, some people really don't know that there is a new star wars movie coming out aside from sci-fi fans. The person I was referring to is a huge baseball fan so he doesn't keep up with star wars.

 

This might be the most accurate thing I've heard. Release the title and a 30/45 second teaser during the Super Bowl and the first full teaser during Celebration. The only problem I can think of is what would they do between April and October until the main trailer releases? Show some behind the screens thing at CC like they did this year with Rogue One?

it's all in their favor here as TFA broke records and anticipation for ep8 will be really high. They don't need to spoil the film or show much at all... once R1 has run for a good few weeks it's all about tipping that snowball off the top of the hill.

a 30 second teaser in Feb could show us next to nothing of the new film.. a flash of the protagonists we already know and maybe a glimpse of a new one or two - then the title.
job done.. ball rolling and we're all happy till celebration

I'm actually fascinated to find out if we see Luke talking in any trailer next year, or if they string us out till episode 8. would be so cruel lol

 

hmmm, what if Luke cannot talk anymore, he lost his voice. So mute Luke throughout the whole ST. But I guess then Mark would kill the director/writer.

 

the ironic thing is, that Luke's dialogue for ep8 would likely spoil the plot. sadly i think we're gonna be starved of Luke until next december

imagine if the crowd at Celebration we're shown a clip with Luke speaking or igniting his saber... they'd go nuts!!! lol. there would be star wars fans feinting like kids at a boy band concert

 

I think that's what they do. A BTS video like they've done for the last two movies.

It gives some very minor clues as to what might be going on in the movie, glimpses here and there of random stuff.

You're assuming no full trailer until October. RO didn't wait that long. They released it in August and then we got a full trailer #2 in October.

I don't know who made the decision to not release any footage (a few seconds leaked and that BTS didn't have any footage), but my strong suspicion is that JJ had a big hand in that.

 

The interviews in that Comic Con BTS don't make sense if it's a video for the cast. The whole tone of that video screams "for the public." One of the few pieces of the movie that is clearly seen is one of those red armored henchmen running from the ractars (the bowling ball spaghetti monsters). That character is only in the film for 4 minutes tops and has no bearing on the plot at all. Odd that they would choose that to put into a video shown just to the cast.

JJ has said many, many times that he hates trailers and that the "mystery box" is a key component to his movies (which is crafty I admit, since if people realized that most of his movies & TV shows are loose remakes, reboots, and/or sequels fewer would go s

That SDCC video was his & LFL way of providing content without a trailer, and knowing that Ford showing up and the following concert (wow, you mean we get to go and listen to music that's been out for 40 years while people try to sign us up for credit cards! Yay!)

LF botched the marketing of TFA. they had way too much mystery for way too long and then sprayed content like fire hose starting with that trailer in October.

The marketing for RO has been much better, IMO, more steady and evenly doled out. I think that's the direction E8 will go in, especially since JJ has little to know influence outside getting a big fat check for someone else's ideas (his favorite thing in life).

 

Oh my god when are people gonna let this go. There will be no teaser this year. Accept it and move on.

It would be nice surprise to get either the titel or a teaser before RO, but I doubt it. I guess they keep everything for celebration next year.
