    Yuppie!!! Lols.

I have all the extended editions of LOTR and hobbit films and I don't think I've sat down and watch the features all the way through. Lol my butt can't sit still for that period of time. I can do marathons but watching every special features for each movie? No...my body can't handle it. :p

T would be fun to have some of the auditions for TFA that the big A-List-Type auditioned for as they did for ANH's secial features ...

I read that on AVS forum, if I recall it was on a thread regarding the bluray, & lots of people were unhappy about it. It could be possible I misunderstood because things get real geeky/ technical on that forum. If you remember quote me on this tomorrow morning & that will remind me & I will see if I can find that exact discussion.

In terms of 4K DI... is it CGI you are talking about having been used for years or just plain old live action filming? Perhaps it was an issue for rendering the complex CGI.

I've heard the studios are a bit behind on the UHD game... that cameras shoot @ 4k but films are mastered in 1080p usually? (unless if it's being prepped for a UHD @ home release or for the premium theater shows?) Or perhaps there is some step in the infrastructure that prevents it from being a common practice? I'm having a hard time remembering... I know that live TV (like sports) is a problem for 4k, some Korean research firm is trying to figure out how to broadcast @ 4K on live TV.

Well most mastering was being done on 2K and then finished in 4K. You can't have a movie where you're watching it in 4K and suddenly it goes down to 1080. Even if that were possible, it wouldn't even be noticeble since the majority still have normal 1080 televisions. In terms of 4K DI, I'm talking about the movie as a whole as it's not fully finished until the final pass is done. The only thing that isn't affected by that is the sound design.

I get what you mean... yes the 2k scenes would have been upscaled to 4k is what my understanding was of that conversation. Perhaps it's not as noticeable since things are in fast motion & the like... although thinking back on it some of the stills of the CGI scenes were captured in 4k based on screen shots from trailer 2 (like the falcon flying up to SSD shot on Jakku)

Is the Target exclusive bonus disc DVD or Blu-ray? Why couldn't Disney include those additional extras with the standard release?

I really like the target one. Which one had BB-8 on it? Best buy?

    Ok I found it:

"The DCP for Star Wars was 2K, even in 2D. According to American Cinematographer, the negative was scanned at 4K, but the DI was finished in 2K to speed up the post-production workflow."

    http://www.avsforum.com/forum/150-b...r-wars-force-awakens-format-discussion-2.html

He later corrects himself in post 52 as citing film-tech.com forum as being the source for that info.

When I read further into the forum one of the members claimed to have seen a fuzziness to the image on IMAX. I saw it twice on IMAX & can't say that it was noticable or that it bothered me.

I don't think 2k DI won't matter for @ home too much though... not unless you have a 100" tv set. It's been tossed around that unless you sit less than 6' away, you can't tell the difference between 1080p & 4k. I can if there are things like text with sharp edges, but when things are in motion everything is obscured by... well... motion.

However, it's also common for higher resolutions to become perceivable after years of use, there are artifacts produced by the lower resolutions that might not be in 4k (for instance... when people complain about the screen door effect on the oculus rift, but had it been 8 or so years ago people wouldn't have been complaining probably because it would have been sharper than they noticed).

A lot of industry professionals will tell you that HDR would be far more dramatic improvement for future sets... like for example an HDR 1080 p tv will look better than a standard 4k set... but there will never be a 1080p HDR set unless if some nerd decides to build one for fun.

In any case, it is disappointing to find out the DI was 2k. I know I'm in the minority here, but I was not a big fan of the CGI in a lot of scenes, perhaps this is partly why (I wish models had been used for atleast some of the ships in motion... not all the time but atleast a few shots, & I bet JJ would have loved to incorporate them). I feel like star wars should not have been rushed, & I hope they don't for 8. Ultimately it's a budget issue, & it really saddens me to know that Disney couldn't approve of a larger budget for such a huge movie (I believe some of the marvel films actually received higher budgets). Anyone know if 8's budget is public yet?

I agree with everything you've said but considering the full budget to-date has been roughly $350 million then they can have done so much more with TFA...I just hope the hole video version will do it some justice .

350, was that just the amount spent on TFA (including promotion?) or the production budget? I thought the production budget was 180 million... could be wrong though?

The deleted scenes are going to be great. I would love a commentary though

This is probably a stupid question but does the DVD-version include the same extra material as the Bluray-version?
