I got giddy with this track listing.
I don't even care if Luke is in the last 2 seconds of this movie.

Now, if only the soundtrack will leak early.

Besides that Luke being a grand master/yoda type character sounds amazing, to me.

Give space for the new cast to grow, but allows him to be a major cog in the new story.

I have thoughts of the force theme being played during the "The Ways of the Force" cut with a shot of Rey and that blue lightsaber. Make me have the biggest smile on my face.

And that's how all the hate begins...

I find it extremely sad that some people are so close-minded. If the movie is not exactly what they're expecting it to be (like having long scenes with Luke, Han and Leia preferably interacting with each other), then it's a middle finger to the audience.

If I was making the movie, there would be no Luke, Han and Leia whatsoever and it would happen 60 years after the ROTJ. If my wife was making the movie, it would be about Luke raising his kids as Jedi. If my best friend was making it, it would be about a huge Sith (the species) invasion coming from the Unknown Regions. People have different ideas and that's ok.

Clearly Abrams and Kasdan believe that having Luke as a plot device and saving him for the next movie (considering that Han would die now) is a great move. Instead of feeding the fans with tons on Luke, Han and Leia in a movie that's supposed to be about a new generation, they decided that they would give fans a ton of Han, a little bit of Leia and almost nothing of Luke. Next movie fans will be eager to have more Luke. It makes total sense.

It's not a middle finger to the audience. But it would be if Luke was in the trailers, or in the posters, or in the magazine covers, or giving interviews. They're making pretty clear that Luke will have a very, very, very tiny role in this story.

I've been wanting someone to come up with a scenario that puts Luke in a larger role, without impeding the development of new characters.

You can't have him get killed off by Kylo Ren, because not only does it make the whole movie too much like ANH, it also reeks of awful Dragon Ball Z writing.
You can't have him as a constantly present mentor figure, because it doesn't give the new heroes room to grow and prove themselves.

Having Luke on a different quest, that crosses paths with the new heroes, is probably the best way to include Luke in the trilogy.
It keeps Luke important to the overall story, and it gives the new heroes the room they need to be heroes.

Just because there's no track specifically titled "Finn's theme" doesn't mean he doesn't have a theme...
There's a few tracks where Finn's theme may come into play, in particular "Finn’s Confession."

A New Hope plot rehash, I can live with. Crossguard lightsaber? Whatever. Old planets with new names? Fine. The only thing I've really "demanded" from this movie is: have Luke in it beyond a cameo, and have a scene with the big 3 together. WHY is THIS an unreasonable request? This is really the only thing that could absolutely bum me out about the film. I'm open to whatever else they want to do, but this pisses me off beyond belief.

And if I was making the movie it would be about Luke, Han, and Leia's kids, with the original cast in minor supporting roles a la Alec Guinness & Peter Cushing in A New Hope, and Yoda and Mace Windu in the prequels. Luke would of course have the biggest role of the original cast because of his connection to the force and training the next generation of jedi. But it wouldn't be this 2 second cameo insanely bad idea bullcrap for the OT cast.

It didn't have to be tons, it just had to be more than cameos.

You're assuming it will have more Luke. For all we know, he never leaves his little Skellig Michael house in the film, let alone handles a lightsaber again because "Luke has to be Yoda in Empire Strikes Back now". What a disappointment.

To the GA, maybe it isn't, but he was in the comic con footage, the Empire magazine shoots from last year, there was all this hype that the original cast was back from pretty much the moment it was announced they'd return, and they allowed that perception that we'd see them in this movie to sit for pretty much years until the marketing has picked up....and then a funny thing happened: First everyone was surprised there was no Luke. Next came the denial and the excuses that "Oh, he's in it, they're saving him for something BIG in the movie and that's why they haven't shown it yet, you just wait!", and now, finally, we're just about entering the acceptance stage, where the excuses have dropped from "Oh, they're saving him for a BIG reveal in the movie where he does awesome stuff that's so awesome we can't see it!" to "he'll....he'll be in the NEXT movie! Yeah! Everyone still like this one, 2 seconds of Luke is totally okay, I'm okay with that because I know we'll see him a lot in the next movie! Who cares if Han is dead now and the big 3 never interact again ever? That's not a waste of a once in a lifetime opportunity! Nuh uh! So what if Simon Pegg is in the movie more than Mark Hamill?"....

And it's funny that youtube commenters still think they're saving him for some big surprise reveal in the film to do something awesome....when really, he's just not in it, lol....

It would be funny if it wasn't so sad. :(

THIS was the best they could do, people: A New Hope rehash, sans Luke. :(

"The Ways Of The Force" reference.

So reluctant Luke's foster parents die, and then he accepts the path of the Jedi.

So let's just say when another character or two gets "Torn Apart", Rey accepts the path of the Jedi.

hmm... this tracklisting was a bummer... i was (maybe still am) hoping to the last minute that Luke isn't only in the movie for the last second cameo - I mean COME ON!.

I Cannot imagine in any way Abrams and Kasdan being so out of touch with what the fans want. And before you think - well they want to make the best film - EVERYTHING in the marketing and trailers of this film has been catering to fans, showing and telling endlessly about the "practical effects" and use of FILM cameras etc. etc. "Hey guys - this is just like the OT you remember and love". Really? Really???

Luke is such an essential part of the Star Wars legacy. He is THE hero of the old trilogy. I'm in no way against a new generation. But if they can have Han and Leia in the film - for several minutes, and even bother to show us 3rd-tier old aliens flying xwings and what not - again to say "look look - its just like the old day". Really? Really???

Then why on earth would they in the beginning have us believe that the old BIG 3 are back, and we are gonna see them on screen again together one last time. Only not.

It's like promising a totally brand new star trek story in a brand new reset universe, with new stakes and new adventures, only to rehash a once great story - only to make it cringe worthy and sub par - that would never happen right

    oh wait.....:eek::(

To all you 'Luke isn't in the film and my childhood is raped all over again...' people

I'm a huge fan of the OT, think episode 4 is the best in the series and I still think it's entirely possibe to make a fun, riveting, emotional and exciting pulpy space fantasy without the character of Luke Skywalker in it.
But, only if the new characters live up to the legacy of course. From what I have seen so far Boyega, Isaac and Ridley are going to deliver. Up to the point where I find every second the original three leads are in the new film is a nice bonus but not really that necessary for my enjoyment of the new films.

And this is coming from someone who, before having seen any TFA footage would have screamed bloody murder had he found out Hamill's barely in the film. Now, after all the tv spots and other footage I just don't care anymore. This film looks good and feels so much more like the OT than the PT ever did.

Plus: who knows, right, there doesn't need to be a lot of Luke in it as long as it's a great scene ...
Plus 2: new Williams Star Wars music!!!! Hw cool is that?

Have faith. This is going to rock.

So the idea of him being so powerful and him basically be the cog in which starts (all what we assume) Reys training, doesn't excite you at all?

Oh wait, I forgot you are one of those people who want some 4 hour epic that chronicles Luke's story from after ROTJ to TFA.

Soundtrack name, are just that names. No point in getting worked up because we STILL Don't have any indication on how long Luke it is in the movie, just because the last track had a list of "Jedi steps" doesn't automatically make him be apart of the movie for 2 minutes.

I feel like I am saying this a lot lately but.. Pump the breaks, if we get a full breakdown closer to the movie and the whole thing that has been rumored about Luke is true, then walk into a topic and write a massive manifesto about how J.J. Sucks.

Track 5 "Follow Me" (by amazing coincidence) is also a track title from Always (Music by John Williams). (In fact it's one of my favourite tracks on that score! Frantic and playful!)

So, if John Williams is borrowing track titles from Always, why didn't he call Track 17 "Snoke Gets In Your Eyes"?

Assuming [8. That Girl with the Staff] is Rey on the freighter and [ 9. The Rathtars!] - that's two tracks .. maybe it's just got music, but is this scene a lot longer - more important than we think?

Why? Do you know what happens in it and if so can you tell me what they do to Luke?

Because right now all I've said is how I'd feel/react if Luke is only in the film for 2 seconds and does nothing and Luke, Han, and Leia never interact.....

I don't know for certain yet that it will be that way.

It's just what seems most likely based off all the evidence we have so far....

    So, question to y'all.
Each Star Wars film has more or less one track which seems to define it in my mind (e.g. "Duel of the Fates" for TPM or "Across the Stars" for AtoC)
What do you think TFA's might be based on these listings?
If I had to guess I'd probably go with "The Ways of the Force", but that's mostly just a guess. Thoughts?
