Kylo: "These are my Knights of Ren!"

Snoke: "But I want them! They're mine now!"

    Kylo: "Not fair!"

Snoke: "Ancient being with unlimited power bro"

Kylo: "I'll throw you down a shaft in the third movie...."

    Snoke: "What was that?"

Kylo: "You should totally make them red. Won't be at all ostentatious"

***SPOILERS IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE NEW TEASER***

My guess/theory is that the Knights of Ren will be revealed at the end of The Last Jedi, and this is how I think it might turn out.

    • Firstly, I'd say that the KoR's fanaticism over Darth Vader will greatly annoy Snoke, as instead of living in the now they are devoted to a figure of the past, and will see them as a hindrance to Kylo's potential (note: Snoke said he wants to complete Kylo's training, and this is where I think he will try to convince Kylo to cast aside the KoR).
    • Kylo, being in a fragile state of mind will constantly be torn over whether or not to abandon the KoR (note: In fact the scene in the main trailers where he punches the wall with his helmet might be him taking out his frustrations over the dilemma).
    • During the scene in the main trailer where he is about to fire at Leia's ship, I'd say he actually fires. he does this as a desperate attempt to complete his journey to the dark side (basically the same reason that Han died in TFA). (Note: I am not saying that Leia dies in this scene, as the hit might just critically damage the ship she's on). He, however, instead of feeling powerful with the dark side, is absolutely distraught with the fact that he just killed his last parent for nothing (he believes he killed his mother).
    • Kylo gives up on the First order and on Snoke (whether it is because he believes that Snoke lied to him about the whole 'Kill your parents and you'll be all dark side', or whether the emotional stress is too great for him and it just crushes him). This does not happen straight away though.
    • Now, this is where the whole *SPOILER* part happens. If you seen the new trailer/teaser, you'd have seen Rey holding Kylo Ren's lightsaber. My theory on this scene is that in this scene, Rey tries to fight Snoke, and he notes her unnatural abilities and massive strength, but still overpowers her easily. He then holds her up using the force and destroys Luke's saber which she was wielding. In a desperate attempt to get the dark side of Kylo Ren to take over, he starts taunting him, telling him he's nowhere near as powerful as the scavenger, and it works, but Kylo turns on Snoke and gets pwnd, but manages to get Rey out of Snoke's force-grip, and she takes the crossguard lightsaber, but is once again overpowered by Snoke.
    • This is when the KoR appear. In a swift attack, they blast open Snoke's throne room (which is on the Supremacy), and Kylo oscapes with them. They escape without Rey, who is awed by Snoke's utter power, and is subsequently turned to the dark side.
    • Later down the line (this could happen in episode 9), the KoR learn about Vader's turn towards the light side, and are bound by their 'loyalty' towards the Sith lord to in some way help the resistance. Whether it be by directly contributing in their assaults, or in some other way, I don't know.
So this is my theory on how the next episode will go down. Now, reading over this.... well, it does not really sound like a Star Wars movie to me, but as has been said by all of the people involved in the production of this film, it will be different.

I have no idea, but maybe Rian has kept them a secret to the second act of the movie, or maybe for Episode IX.

Yeah I have a funny feeling they won't be properly introduced until 9. I think their absence is important to the narrative.

I always thought it was an elaborate and expensive reference to Ingmar Bergman's The Seventh Seal, with MVS reprising his role of the Knight with Kylo representing death. A major theme in The Seventh Seal is the silence/absence of god. In LST's scene the force is absent - or at least balance and Luke Skywalker is missing. The reference to classic cinema is an incredibly JJ thing to do.

In the Visual Disctionary from both TFA and now TLJ every single individual is mentioned including even lesser worm or slug from any place, planet or organisation mentioned in the trilogy , but not a word about Knights of Ren.Ever.

If Kylo is the Master, the most powerful of the Ren, then they are less important than he is. The only reason they aren't in the movies is the same as other stuff like Luke's saber - no one invented yet who they are or their backstory that simple.....and it is possible it will happen in a distant future in a novel or comic book most of moviegoers -me including - won't ever read....

Does JJ have a form of creative control over the KoR?

Lor is being featured as a main character in the comics at current, as Poe & Leia are searching for him.

Also, as it has been mentioned that Luke & Lor traveled the galaxy together searching for artifacts, I assume that will be elaborated on after TLJ is released, so it doesn't spoil Luke's backstory.

Since they have not been explained couldn't they conceivably show up in EP IX with JJ at the helm? Aren't they kind of his creation anyway?

Another MacGuffin that was lost due to two different writers and visions for the last two episodes. Rian wanted to do his own thing.
