I just changed my vote from 6 to 7 and it might go higher. 24 hours later, my feelings are starting to settle a little bit.
It's a good movie, the Jedi chapter is incredible but I still have this sour taste about the resistance plot that felt unnecessary, with Finn being reduced to a generic character : I don't think RJ handled his arc very well. The resistance part prevents me to praise it as a masterpiece but it may change after another viewing.

However, even if I raise my vote to higher values I doubt that I will find the movie more 'enjoyable', which is a separate issue from the movie being 'good'. I understand the story RJ had in mind and praise some part of it as excellent. However on my first viewing it felt like the characters were on a boxing ring. What I loved about TFA were the two main heroes, Rey and Finn, going into thrilling adventures that had some sense of fun in it. In TLJ, I feel like RJ hit them as hard as he could with no sense of joy or hope for the protagonists. I could not be more relieved that they had this massive hug at the end and it seems like it was the first moment these two characters felt some peace during this rollercoaster ride. And thank god Rey smiled at that moment.

Star Wars fans: TFA was a retread of ANH
Also Star Wars fans: TLJ wasn't enough like the other films.

I loved it. I have gone through more emotions thinking about it since I saw it last night than I have with any film since I saw TESB in the cinema when I was four.

Loved: Kylo Ren thought Driver stole the show. Contrary to the person above who said they didn't see why we needed Snoke at all, I felt that Kylo's struggle with the light was necessary- he couldn't have had that if he was the big bad from the start. Also, from a certain point of view, he avenged Han, because it was Snoke who manipulated him into killing him. Also I predicted Snoke would die so happy with that.

Luke's journey and Mark's performance. Hope he is liberally used as a force ghost in IX.

    Rey's training.

The whole Mutiny thing was fantastic and totally different to anything we've seen before. Holdo's character was great.

Loved the chemistry between Finn and Rose.

There were things I didn't love as much - some of the humour didn't feel right. The canto bight chase sequence felt weird.

But I have to see it again (and again and again). I feel like this is a movie that will keep on giving and rewarding repeated views)

As always, I love the "little" things beside big explosions most.
Some of the dialogue pieces from Luke on AchTo were great.
The best line imo comes from Rose.
I am not sure yet if I like Kylos Arc; it will depend on IX.
I was surprised that I really missed Han Solo or kind of Han Solo type a lot. I couldn't laugh that much as I am used to in a SW movie.
It showed in many ways and aspects (scenes on both sides of the conflict) the stupidity of wars. The huge gap between "purpose, idealism" and unbelievable waste of lives, energy and money, especially following any "wise" leaders and on top of all that; for the profit of some ruthless people behind the whole war machinery who swim in money and wealth.
Luke really understands his lessons throughout the whole saga, especially in VIII at the very end.
But I can also understand, that this film is a bit uneasy to swollow for a lot of people.
    Time moves on, storys change.

It felt like a great stand alone movie to me. Not sure if it's truly great wthin the trilogy context. Seems like we had a lot of secrets and plot from TFA that went nowhere in this film. I'll reserve judgement until I've seen the whole trilogy though.

Side note: Did anyone else see the smashing of Phasmas helmet and the viewing of her eye at the end of the battle with Finn as reminiscent, and a nod too, of the face off between Ashoka and Vader in Rebels?

    A huge disappointment!
When I left the theater, I felt like, multiply the Boba Fett in the Sarlacc Pit scene a thousand times.

Rian Johnson's movie Looper was excellent and the fact that Disney gave him a go-ahead to write an all new Star Wars Trilogy - even before anyone saw his Last Jedi - made me expect so much of this! Bummer...

To me, the best thing in Star Wars are the villains, the Dark Side.
The First Order? A bunch of doucebags... Spaceballs!! (With one exception, Snoke)

I think we did have a potentially great Villain with Snoke, so much power and wisdom, so mysterious.
I red so many great theories about him (Plagueis, or a Force Drainer, ...) , they've build up something, you feel a great climax coming and then they screw it up completely! Star Wars in good hands? LOL! At least The Force Awakens was a good copy... This movie didn't feel that Dark at all.

What the hell is episode 9 going to be about? The Galaxy looks so small now? The Rebellion / First Order have like 5 ships left,
We've got two force wielding rookies, no decent Villain, I honestly don't know what to look forward to.
What's the point of introducing a new and powerfull villain in the next movie (which it needs) if we won't be able to enjoy him long, so why love him.

If I would have written The Last Jedi, I would have Luke coming in to save the day when Snoke is about to destroy Rey in his Throne Room,
Snoke defeats Luke - after the most epic lightsaber battle in history, Rey escapes, Snoke drains the life out of Luke and is young again, no longer deformed - maybe someone we know. Kylo turns to the Light and teams up with Rey, and they both face Snoke in the final film.

Now I think about it, the best things in this movie are the Porgs... and that drunken little guy in the Casino!
I hope I feel different about it in a few days...

Very disappointed, to be honest. I sat in the cinema thinking I'd rather be watching one of prequels (specifically, the sabre scenes). I mean, christ, Leia floating through space - da faq? Snoke, the powerful big new bad guy, dies with a wimper - da faq? Phasma, who? Luke..... that's it? There's no depth to this film or intricate plot that some suggest. It sets up Kylo v Rey - that's it.

I'm almost sure this wasn't their intention, but yeah, now that you point it out, it is a little suspicious.

They will just make Kylo and Hux gay in IX to make it less suspicious, lol.

Ok, they want to be original. So let's go all the way. I officially want the First Order to win and have Kylo kill all of the Resistance screaming and grunting with his lightsaber in hand. This movie has made a nihilist out of me. Finish, what Vader started.

I’m going to watch it again before I vote and give a full review but at the moment I put it neck and neck with Empire.

Is it a perfect movie? No. But neither was Empire. And as strange as this sounds, I didn’t want it to be perfect. It’s important that there were moments I didn’t like - as that shows risk and originality. It challenges you.

I’d give TFA 6 out of 10. Is it a bad film? No. Do I hate it? No. It’s likeable. It’s safe. I watched TLJ and I was GRIPPED throughout. It was as new as an experience as it could be. And that by itself is fantastic. And then on top of that - the action, the excitement, the humour, the intelligence, the emotion...

A lot of what played out I had sort of discussed and “predicted” but that little bit extra further it went, the more sense it made and the execution was beyond my dreams. The way they handled Luke’s character was superb. I had an issue with this saga being taken forward and worrying they would be throwing out all the canon Lucas created about the Jedi and the Force. Rian didn’t do that and he took it forward beautifully - the scene with Yoda defining it wonderfully. The compromise, as MH alluded to in his early dislike of the direction his character took, was in Luke nearly striking young Ben down. That does go against the character - but it was the compromise needed to enable the story to continue. Everything else remains in tact. A work of genius.

The only thing I went away concerned about was not in hearing where Snoke came from. That needs to explained in my opinion.

The film is a masterpiece. On A level with Empire. People may be divided on this movie. Many will say there was too much humour and it was too different. To those folks I say, watch Empire again with fresh eyes:

Force ghosts. A talking frog. A giant space worm. A truly subversive reveal. It was weird and funny and original and wonderful. We finally have that again with TLJ. Enjoy the moment.

Reaction? Well, I never laughed as much watching a Star Wars movie. And not in a "good joke" kind of way.

I think RJ did screw star wars.

He also blew up all of the resistance ships and their bases. LOL. JJA must be mad as hell. RJ could could have at least left him a ship to play with.

It is going to be very difficult to turn this one around. You can't just suddenly build ships.

So basically, no proper villain left, no jedi and Poe does not do have an X wing. No lovable characters, no mystery and no suspense.

    There is nothing left.

I hated how Leia pulled herself back to the ship...

I hated that Snoke died, especially the way he did.. Just thought oh I really like this guy, great powerful villain.. And swoosh killed.. Like he was nothing... Ridiculous... It truly pissed me off... And it made me want to through up..

Also I didn't like Luke's ending.. His story was good, but the ending ruined it for me... I liked that he confronted Ben, and I liked it when it turned out he wasn't really there.. For a second I thought he would pull an Ben Kenobi, and let Kylo strike him down.. And I suppose I would have been fine with that.. But to have him not really present.. And still dying.. Ruined it for me...

On a more positive note, I pretty much loved the rest of the movie, great score, great humor (most of the time)
I really liked Finn's story, even though it meant nothing in the end as they didn't succeed..

I don't know what they will do with ep IX, right now I can't see it, Snoke dead, Luke dead.. Rey has barely got any training in the force.. Kylo has but is not That powerful.. They are the two remaining force users who can make a difference.. But I don't see it...
The resistance is left with what? 3?4? Maybe 5 ships?

I wish JJ the best of luck continuing this trilogy.. Hope he comes up with something truly special..

I absolutely loved the film, most of it.. But it did feel more like the end of a trilogy and not the middle..

In the movie Leia said many times about people out there on the side of the resistance - they were waiting for these folk on Crait. And IX could take place years after TLJ. So you can chalk that gripe off your negative list.
    --- Double Post Merged, Dec 14, 2017, Original Post Date: Dec 14, 2017 ---
War. Luke said it is just beginning. My guess is that IX will take place 5 years later and the resistance and FO will have rebuilt themselves and new students will join the Jedi order under Rey...and face Emperor Ren and his KoR.
