Thank you all for lots of good suggestions and intelligent comments. This is the level of intelligence I personally would like to see in a SW7 discussion :D

I don't think it should be too difficult to make a source-to-verification/debunk list. It would, however, require a fair amount of work.

As for no leakers being proven right, I'm not entierly sure that is true. I am pretty sure I read a leak on here prior to the teaser that John Boyega was playing a Stormtrooper (sort of). Did I dream that? This leak was, as far as we can tell, supported by the trailer, and I am sure there are others too. Furthermore, I think it is a fair assumption that Viral Hide's sources are good?

We could set up a list something like this:
    Rumor --- Source --- Status
John Boyega plays a Stormtrooper --- NAME --- Varified by teaser trailer A

Unfortunately, I am very uninformed myself and couldn't contribute too much to SW7News scholar work...

It strikes me we know a lot about the first 'Act' set on Tatooine, which was also heavily featured in the teaser (confirming quite a few rumours), and very little about the rest of the film, which features must less. The lack of information on the likes of Han, Leia, R2 and 3P0 also matches their absence from the teaser. We don't have a clue, for example, what those X-wings are doing flying low over the lake and we have a tonne of contradictory rumours about Luke and the ending. The 'mystery box' presumably knows what's got out and has its priorities of important and less important details. I wonder if some of the leakers are not only deliberately sowing confusion about the key details, but are also leaking true information about less critical scenes that helps them build a reputation for reliability. Thus some of the 'reliable sources' both here and at other sites might be sending out a mix of true and false information.

No can do. Anyone who was around during the EPIII would know the name and even after all this time, I won't betray someone who told me this in confidence. As far as I know, he's still in the animation indistry. Go back and watch the EPII making of docs (I think it was EPII) and you'll see the cots he described. They play it off as a nice thing to supply employees if I remember correctly. The contract thing is common in the industry and requires a lot of upheaval and moving.

I understand that nobody came out and said, "Look, remember this planet? it's Tatooine!" But i mean come on, they showed it and said "Remember this planet?" And since Tatooine was in EVERY movie besides ESB, I sorta think they figured by saying that we would get the hint it's Tatooine. I honestly don't think while they made that look into a trailer that they thought they needed to come out and say Heyy, it's Tatooine! The way they said it just meshed well with what they were doing. Maybe now that they did do that look into the trailer, someone can get a confirmation in an interview and i really hope whoever they do get to say it says, "I thought they made that clear enough?" But anyway, after lurking around the forums since it's inception i felt the time was right to join glad to be here.

We have 39 seconds of actual footage and some names. We know the cast, their genders, their physiques, their past roles, and what they look like without makeup or prosthetics. We have some concept art.

I honestly believe we know NOTHING. All of the spoilers, rumors, and whispers thus far are based on conjecture, concept art, and supposition. Has anything really panned out? Again, aside from images that were reported as concept art and have been realized in the trailer - but do we know ANYTHING about the story as a result of these images?

Personally, I think this is really exciting, because it probably means the actual film will still be a surprise, and also better than anything we have come up with (which mainly seems to be based on the EU and fan fiction).

I totally agree with a previous poster. There's far more at stake this time, with regard to future revenue. Disney wants to own the product that is the reveal, and will do everything within their demigod-like powers to ensure that's the case.

To sum up some of SpoilerMan

posted fake script pages, took credit for it and then later denied that he did it
posted Kira was in a love triangle with her cousin Luke Skywalker's son (played by Gleeson) in the movie
claimed there were multiple IMAX sequences -- Abrams says there is one (source, source)
    posted a fake crawl
posted deliberated edited fan art of old Luke Skywalker from DeviantArt to avoid detection
posted Adam Driver fan art as concept art
Guy (0bi-wan) claims on Jedi Council Forums to know him and be buddies with him
Guy (0bi-wan) posts photoshopped reddit message to make it look like SpoilerMan predicted the names after they were revealed
    and so on

I've documented this stuff in my posts and am annoyed at internet arsonists like this.

I've just started listening to the latest makingstarwars podcast. wow they really tore into all the spoilerman/bro and 4chan nonsense. It was quite refreshing :)

In my opinion, i still think the best way to handle all of this would be as followed

    1. Dismiss anything on reddit and 4chan (social media collectives) as fake
    2. wait for SW7news, Makingstarwars etc. to validate anything that potentially comes from social media collectives.
    3. Take anything posted on SW7news, Makingstarwars etc. as rumour and speculation
    4. Don't take Rumours and Speculation as truth, take them as Rumours and Speculation
    5. Only official leaks like JJ letters, trailers and official posters etc., validate said rumours and speculation

    Thus example:

Starwars Underworld release BB-8 concept art, this is rumour/speculation in its validity, Trailer verified said speculation.

I agree that SpoilerMan/Bro should not be trusted but bear in mind that a lot of what they said was rumors that were already circulating here, and other fan sites some of it from several sources. One of the reasons their BS was picked up is that it played on existing cloudy info. They just made some choices as what to promote/deny and offered some elaboration. For instance the rumor that Driver was going to be the new Bad Guy came from many places. However SpoilerMan picked up on that and added some info. The fact that MVS was playing the guy in the cantina that was the chubby one-eyed cyborg in the concept art existed before SpoilerMan who added that the guy was a democracy loving PT character returning who was raising Rey. So it should be noted that there were some relatively common pre-existing ideas before they came along. I can't say if these pre-existing ideas are correct or not but they came from sources other than SpoilerMan/Bro and were bandied about here,SWU, MSW and other sites with varying degrees of credibility.

Also I would caution you that it is very possible some of what they said will be correct it is just mixed in with BS so that some of the pre-existing ideas are discredited.Because I think at least one might be strategic disinformation. I don't think a random 4chan anonymous leaker would get the attention of the UK Guardian with out some help.

I think thatweneed to step back and considered every possible leak, even those that have been supposedly "debunked".

there is something that is not considered nearly enough, the fact that many of the things people are saying in these leaks are likely extrapolations. People are seeing stuff, but they may lack the context to know what they are actually looking at... and thus they fill the holes in their mind.

One person says "I saw inquisitors"

Another says "I saw dathomiri witches"

From this it can be inferred that both people saw... force using imperials most likely.

    Another example

"I saw chrome storm trooperstaht are special forces"

and another "I saw some mandolorian warriors!!"

These people saw some folks in armor....

We need to try to gather up all the leaks, examine them, compare them, and try to determine what people are seeing... minus their own random conclusions.

I agree with this, and I look forward to the discussion that follows.

Mind you though, one can get into trouble even when going in-depth about something. It's the assumption of extrapolation that the whole "ancient astronaut" theories are based off of (as seen in Ancient Aliens and other shows). They often assume something like a description of angels descending from Heaven with burning wings behind them was simply a landing spaceship, yet skewed due to perception.

Just saying that in cross-examination, we should be careful to not assume two similar things refer to the same thing, or to sum them down too much. Like, inquisitors, Dathomiri witches, chrome troopers, Mandalorians, and even sharks with frickin' laser beams attached to their frickin' heads could all very well be in the movie.

Then again, I suppose even some jumbled mess like that could be somewhat along the rights lines of describing some Sith alchemy Force-using armored shark-monster.

As far as I can tell, everyone has talked about making such a list, but no one has put forward the immense amount of time required to actually do it. :p

I guess this thread would be an attempt. We need to start putting up rumors that are similar I suppose.

Some further research by me tracks an earlier posting by a "James" on Facebook. His account's alleged location is London.:

Later a "James" shows up on ScreenRant in various comment sections plugging this image:
