Snoke says this line in TFA. We all assume it meant Jedi in plural. I'm beginning to think it means a singular Jedi. If Skywalker returns then the new Jedi will rise - Rey will rise. Or if we really want to go there, If Skywalker returns then Kylo reverts back to Ben.

Regardless, I think Snoke is talking about a singular person and not Jedi in terms of group. The awakening Snoke felt was the awakening of the light side of the Force. But it wasn't coming from Luke. It was someone knew.

Ever since Luke went away, the light side of the Force was dormant. Until Rey awoke feeling Jakku and using the Force to guide her - unknowingly.

Rian has already said that the Last Jedi refers to Luke.

Good question. Maybe the convergence of Kylo and Rey in the same vicinity (when Kylo kills Lor San Tekka). Maybe Rey being forced to think about something more than herself and her own survival by helping BB-8.

The thing is though she was with Finn as well. There are two times in the movie Rey does something that Finn asks her about, and both times she can't explain it. The first time is with Finn in the Falcon, and the other time is after she escapes from Kylo. Rey connects to force sensitive people and objects. So far she has connected to Finn, Kylo, the lightsaber, and maybe Maz. The last one I am not sure of. I don't think Maz did anything force sensitive with Rey.This a part so far of how her power works. She is like Rogue from the X-men, except she doesn't drain you, but more so connects with you. When she is touched by objects or people she connects with them. Especially force sensitive ones.

    You are right!

I totally must have glossed over. I thought for sure you were talking about the last Jedi not New Jedi will rise.

I think certainly think that the new Jedi rising is Rey, or Rey and Finn. I don't think we'll see more students any time soon.

They say the awakening was the cosmic force. As such it might have a macro and micro significance.

Finn woke to take a moral stand and not be the weapon of the 1st Order.

Rey was pulled from obscurity to join the fight and bring back Luke.

Han was out spinning his wheels getting no where. But he is "right back in the mess" as Maz says.

    Destiny is back at work.

Interesting theory. But remember, being a Jedi is being selfless. The more selfless Luke got, the more powerful he became. Hence why he didn't have enough power defeat Vader in ESB, and his selflessness to fall rather than go with Vader made him even stronger.

That's why I'm sticking with the Force becomes awoken in her when she refuses to sell BB-8.

With knowing that TLJ means one, or just Luke. I have rethought what Snoke said and I think he means/knows that there will a new type of Jedi that will rise. Perhaps, one more powerful than the traditional Jedi?

Well Luke is the last Jedi. Currently there are NO other Jedi. The title does not inhibit there to be any new Jedi in the future.

Yoda in ROTJ tells him "last of the Jedi you will be. Pass on what you have learned." Yoda doesn't also tell him to create a Jedi temple. He just says pass on what you have learned. So clearly, Luke was passing on his teachings. Things got fudged up real good. And goes off to learn more and be away. The light side of the Force goes dormant. Then BAM it wakes up with Rey on Jakku. And then the lightsaber calls to her - "find Luke." Maz even tells her this.

So right now...ZERO Jedi other than Luke. If he dies without passing on his teachings, then no Jedi will remain.

Yes, but even Yoda couldn't see Vader telling Luke that he was his father; "unexpected this is."

True. But I'm not sure that's the way the Force works. I don't know if Yoda can see things being said. He probably sensed pain and confusion around Luke. I think him not sensing that Vader told him the truth is a bit different than Yoda instructing Luke to pass on the knowledge Luke gained and not seeing it go well.

INT. STARKILLER PLANET - ASSEMBLY ROOM - NIGHT
KYLO REN and General Hux in a dark space, looking UPWARD at
    someone addressing them.
We're in a massive and dark ASSEMBLY ROOM. Hundreds of DESKS
in a stadium arc, focused on a platform where we see SUPREME
LEADER SNOKE. Not entirely human, at nearly twenty-five
feet tall. All of him a STONY GREY. Old, wounded, fragile
and powerful, all at the same time.

    (CONTINUED)
    CONTINUED:
    SNOKE

... Leading them to the last Jedi.
If Skywalker returns, the new Jedi
    will rise.

The new Jedi would indicate an order or group. A New Jedi will rise would indicate an individual.

Not necessarily. It would still be indicative of an individual if Snoke already knew that someone would rise in Luke's place if Luke came back.

No one claimed she is currently a Jedi. Jedi is a religion, life choice. You have Padawans, Jedi Knights and Jedi Masters. Luke was training to become a Jedi from ANH on - "I want to learn the ways of the Force and become a Jedi like my father." "You just took your first step into a larger world."

Rey until she goes to Ach-To hasn't begun training yet (that we know of). Ben Solo was training to be a Jedi. Then he turned his back on it.

Yes it does. If you are talking about an individual in that sense you call them "the".

Right...hence why I'm guessing Snoke could be talking about someone. Not a group.

THE is used when talking about something special, A/AN is used when referrign tos omething more general (ie - THE book vs A book).

Snoke said "THE" Jedi, which would mean he was either referring to a specific individual (so he knows who Rey is?) OR he is referring to a specific group. His language tells us he isn't referring to something in general terms but specific ones - does he REALLY know about Rey and who Rey is at this point? And at this point is Rey so definately only the path to becoming a Jedi that that title is interchangable with her name?

Pretty sure the Last Jedi refers to Ben. He was the last surviving Jedi (and last of Luke's apprentices). The title of the movie has probably a double meaning again. Like Return of the Jedi refers to Luke and Anakin... this time... refers to Luke, who basically renounced of being a Jedi + Ben, who was the last Jedi Luke trained but lost. Look at the poster! It basically spells it out for you.
