Why is it so important that the Jedi Order continues? Why can't there be other Force users who celebrate or study the Force without doing the existence of a Jedi Order?

I find it tragic that Anakin gave in to evil. But I don't consider it tragic that he had ceased to be a Jedi. Being part of the Order never made him happy or gave him any sense of fulfillment.

I somewhat agree, just as the Sith don't have a monopoly on being evil force users, Jedi don't hold a monopoly on the light side of the force. The force is bigger than any one or two groups.

That being said, the Jedi have been an integral part of the Star Wars mythos since the beginning. To see them fully disappear would disappoint a lot of fans. I think the Jedi Order is here to stay, however I think it will definitely evolve beyond what it was in the Prequels.

The directors really do have mostly free reign. The Story Group lets the directors do as they please pretty much. From there they go about handling the direction of the rest of the Canon material. The dog wags the tail, the tail doesn't wag the dog. The dog in this metaphor being the movies while the tail is the rest of the Canon material. That's half the reason the Story Group is so cautious about what details they reveal and what stories they allow, because they don't want to step on the toes of the future films and the visions of their directors. Granted, they help steer the directors in matters of minor Canon details, but they leave the bulk of the storytelling responsibilities to the directors and their script writers, which is better than making films by committee.

As for the premise of this thread. It's definitely interesting. I tend to think Snoke was referring to the Jedi as a group, but you've definitely given me something extra to chew on while watching that scene now.

No they don't. Rian couldn't go in there and say "I'll killing of Rey" or "Luke is Ben's father".

I tend to agree with the proper grammar argument. If Snoke were talking about a single person, Rey, he would have said "a new Jedi will rise." Instead, he says "the new Jedi will rise," which in this usage means multiple.

Your argument is weak sauce. Jumping to hyperbole is an indication of that. I said the directors "mostly" have free reign to do as they please. There are obviously certain things beyond their control, but they are still allowed tons of freedom to tell their stories.

RJ had a lot of freedom in writing the script. He came up with the 3 new characters. @Admiral Petty is correct.

    From the VF cover story:

“The whole team reads each draft of the screenplay as it evolves,” Hart explained to me, “and we try, as much as we can, to smooth out anything that isn’t connecting.”

What the story group does not do, Hart said, is impose plot-point mandates on the filmmakers. Johnson told me he was surprised at how much leeway he was given to cook up the action of Episode VIII from scratch. “The pre-set was Episode VII, and that was kind of it,” he said. If anything, Johnson wanted more give-and-take with the Lucasfilm team, so he moved up to San Francisco for about six weeks during his writing process, taking an office two doors down from Hart’s and meeting with the full group twice a week.

Luke is the last Jedi, just in the same way that the last cookie in a packet is the last cookie....

Until a new packet of cookies is opened.

Luke can be the last Jedi, and have more come after him. The "new Jedi" referred to by Snoke are merely the new packet of cookies finally opened after the previous pack was slowly devoured to leave only the Luke-shaped one remaining at the bottom for 30 years to go a bit stale and crumbly.
