I know it's only a teaser, but I don't remember seeing Keri Russell's character, Zorii?

 

Where is this picture of Kylo Ren in the desert from? I know it's not in the teaser, or at least in my blissful joy I can't find it.

I think Palpy might reappear in Holocron archives... not sure the actual Emperor appears. Also, why not show Kylo's face in the cockpit of the fighter? Could it actually be a Anakin clone? I don't think it is, but who knows! The pilot does seem to have the clothes and cape of Kylo.

 

The TIE encounter may be, as previously suggested, part of a trial for Rey. Although the pilot seemed to dress like Kylo. But the actual visual of the TIE, skimming the surface was awesome.

But I'm with you about Sheev. I think they'll find a recording of him where he'll dispense some Sith words of wisdom.

Main Takeaways:
1) The Skywalker that will be rising is Ben/Kylo; not Rey or Luke or Anakin
2) The Emperor is back mainly to give Ben a catalyst to return to the Light Side
3) The McGuffin in Ep 9 may be Dark Side Horcruxes that are keeping the Emperor's spirit alive

Well, that is not at all what I expected.

As for the Emperor being back, I'm not sure how I feel. I didn't care for the extended Emperor storyline in the EU, but we don't know in what capacity he will appear so I will remain cautiously optimistic for the moment. Pretty great teaser overall.

+1 on ending Snoke talk and starting Palpatine talk. That giant bubble gum opera watching, death cheating, snake, he's been at it all along!

+1 Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of McDiarmid. I hope he makes a killing out of this appearance, superb performer.

 

My main takeaway from the teaser/celebration is that Palpatine being in the film isn’t even the biggest twist of the movie... they just gave it away.

The scale of this movie is going to be massive.

Sidebar: revealing Palpi could be a distraction. As someone noted above, could just be a holo of him as the real villain is, wait for it, Plagueis. Sorry, had to. Lol

 

Yes, all of this.

Palpatine's voice was in Rey's vision in TFA. The dialogue in the original TFA trailer was Luke, who appeared for 30 seconds without any dialogue. It's obvious they're going to visit the DS2 with Palpatine's spirit likely there, and he might not really even be a full apparition if he does appear, with likely little effect on the plot other than something for Kylo to lust after.

That was my thinking too. Lucas's own treatment for Ep7 had the idea of Luke being 'haunted' by a dark side ghost, and I think it was Timothy Zahn in his trilogy who suggested that the cave on Dagobah was shrouded in the dark side because a Sith had died there, so there is certainly precedent for the idea I think.

I suspect however that his ghost would be confined to the remains of the Death Star throne room, perhaps submerged in the sea as depicted in the 'Art Of...' book.

But maybe at best the only thing we hear of him in the movie is just that laugh for, a brief moment, echoing around the throne room as Rey walks in.

Could just be part of a 'flashback' vision Rey has while there.

Or the laugh might just be a gimmick of the trailer! Nothing more.

 

One of the best trailers in history. The title is brilliant. Luke and Palpatine appearing is like... everything I've ever wanted.

I don't think Palps is alive, however, maybe a Force projection or flashback.

I hope the movie is 3 hours long because it seems like there's a lot of stuff in it and I don't wanna see the Knights of Ren having the same screentime as Snoke's royal guards.

Haven't seen anyone here mention the call back to the E1 teaser trailer.

and from "Every saga has a beginning" to "The saga comes to an end"

I think JJ is going to simultaneously tie the whole trilogy together and do it from 2 standpoints: The standpoint of 42 years ago we got the original but also from the standpoint of E1 being the chronological start of it all.

 

Would they really plant the idea of Palpatine in the movie in the fans minds and then dont have him in the movie at all? No, he will be in it but probably not for a long time.
