I think it is worth remembering what Del Toro has said so far. At first he presented himself as the new villain, or rather, that was somewhat thrust upon him.
However, he then went on to say how if people thought he was a villain then they must've read a different script to him.
So if he backtracking or is he being honest?

My thoughts are that it's a bit of both. He is a villain of sorts. I think he will be a lot like Jango Fett. Someone who works for those on the Dark Side but at the end of the day is (or was) a family man. He might be an Imperial Admiral, a bounty hunter or perhaps even something to do with the KoR, but alongside that he will have redeemable features.

Keep in mind that we already have:
Snoke.
Kylo Ren.
General Hux.
Captain Phasma.

Is there room for another villain? I'm not sure.
My theory is that he will be Rey's father. That his story will connect with Luke, the lightsaber, the Clan that faced the KoR in the flashback and Ahch-To - though don't ask me how. But I just feel all those things need to tie in together somehow else it is going to get complicated and messy.

I also think this will create a nice parallel with Kylo in that Rey's mum is dead & Kylo's dad is dead. Also that Rey was abandoned by heroes of the Empire, whilst Kylo was abandoned by heroes of the Rebellion.

 

While I agree with you in that there are already several villains, we are no doubt going to see the Knights of Ren in this trilogy and I don't see them waiting until IX to bring them in. I think with Luke being back perhaps Snoke calls in the reinforcements (KoR) to help Kylo handle the heavy lifting that is trying to take out Luke and his new apprentice. It's possible that BDT is a Knight of Ren to me.

Let's also keep in mind that both Kylo and Hux failed to accomplish what Snoke asked them to do. Perhaps Snoke as sent in another Military leader of the FO who is more of his "right hand man" and usually stays at Snoke's location.

I think of the two I would rather see BDT play a KoR but he could very well not be a villain at all as you said.

 

I have to agree with you. While there are 4 villains (5 including Reaper) there are many more hero characters in the film so maybe they are just trying to level it out.

 

Someone is absolutely going to bite it in VIII too. There's no way the entire cast makes it out of this one alive in my opinion. VIII is going to be much more aggressive as far as action goes than TFA. The story has been set and feuds have been established. S**t is going down.

 

I like the idea of Hux being killed by Kylo for some reason, this could happen and Del Toro comes in if he is indeed a First Order officer. I hope he is a Knight of Ren though.

 

If set pics emerge of him I think KoR we be confirmed pretty quickly.

i absolutely can't believe i'm typing this (me, defending Hux of all people), but Hux really was the only one who did what Snoke told him to do.
the rest of them were the miserable failures ~ hahaha

it would be really interesting if BDT was a KOR and not necessarily a villain--i keep hoping (perhaps beyond hope) that the KOR is 1.) apolitical for the most part--they have their Sithy agenda and that's their allegiance; and 2.) more "gray" than black.

BDT said he was a villain, but backpedaled on that. all the "villains" of the series have explicitly characterized themselves as feeling morally justified, so that doesn't necessarily mean anything ~ but i'm definitely hoping for more nuance in the next installment.

 

Well, considering Phasma's overall roll wasn't terribly discernible from the average stormtrooper, I don't know if I would include her.

 

If I remember correctly, BDT said in an interview that he would be filming in March. We also get the rumor that

Luke is walking through a Casino looking for "someone" and that the stuff ffillmed in Dubruvnek was for a casino scene

Assuming that most of the major actors are likely filming their scenes at Pinewood, I think BDT's character might be the "someone" in the rumor.

 

I really wish that someone was Lando.

Dude. Dude. Whoever gave you the "clouded" ratings is smoking crack. I've been on the fence about Rey being a Skywalker for a long time, I keep coming back to her being Luke's daughter because I haven't seen anything else that makes sense. Once again, you have presented a possibility that makes sense, is compelling, and makes me question everything I believe about who Rey is. Bravo.

 

Boba Fett was a clone of his father, so they would just get the guy who played Jango Fett if they wanted to bring back Boba Fett, but I highly doubt Boba Fett survived and if he did he's in his late 60's early 70's.

Yes but Poe is supposed to be in his early 30s and Daisy is 24 (23 at the time of shooting) and is supposed to be 19ish so real age doesn't really matter unless it's really significant. and Benicio is 49 but to me he looks a lot older than that, so I mean he could be Poes father.

I think Benicio will be:
1. A KOR, possibly one of the first and might have actually found Snoke
2. Bounty hunter
3.Ezra (kinda doubtful thought to be honest even though Ezra would be around that age)

I'm more thinking it's one of the first two. I'd really like him to be a KOR so we could see more of them, but a Bounty hunter would be fine, and there's been a bounty hunter in the original and prequels, so they might go with that too.

 

I haven't seen much of Benicio Del Toro, but I thought he did well in Guardians of the Galaxy as The Collector. I'm sure he would do well with a dramatic role, but I wouldn't mind seeing him play a quirky alien character (not exactly like The Collector, but maybe in that vein). As for his character's affiliation, I would't be surprised if he wasn't a part of the Resistance or the FO, but rather some kind of mercenary or pirate. Or maybe he'll be a member of the Church of the Force like Lor San Tekka or some kind of dark side cult like the Acolytes of the Beyond that were mentioned in Chuck Wendig's Aftermath.

I'd say there's room for only one more villain. Then you'd have what tropes calls a "5 Bad Band." The big bad, dragon, evil genius, brute and dark chick. Snoke, Del Toro, Hux, Phasma and Kylo could all fit these roles. With the storm troopers, Knights of Ren being nameless mooks.

Whether he works directly for the First Order or is a Jango Fett type is my concern. I could picture Del toro working with Hux and Kylo as a Jango for hire type. But if he worked directly for the First Order as a general or something and he took orders FROM Hux and Kylo, I find that absurd. He'd have to be higher ranking than both of them but Force Awakens never hinted there was someone between Hux-Kylo and Snoke as far as rank.[/QUOTE][/QUOTE]

 

Yep, that's my vote, too. That would mean Poe will have a bigger role in the next film, or else they wouldn't waste time on his parentage. It may have something to do with why he's close to Leia and maybe why things went wrong with Luke's academy. From the books we know Han & Leia were close Kes Dameron and Shara Bey. Of course, I'm biased because I want to see more Poe.

Yes, it's easy to fudge the real ages a few years younger for Poe and a few years older for Kes. Anyway, it's a believable role and also one that fits with him saying its not a big part.
