I want BDT to be an entirely a new character and not someone from the cartoons or books.

 

A worker at Lucas Film said the on his twitter
Benicio del Toro is going to be a Sith/Knight of Ren. Also he posted a picture of Benicio del Toro and it said the man in black.

No mention of who BDT is going to play at celebration, makes me think it's gonna be a big reveal. Or maybe not. After all, the lack of Snoke at celebration 15 didn't lead to Snoke being Plagueis. But I'm hoping.

 

Johnson said KMT's part is the biggest out of the batch of new roles.

 

(If he's an existing character, Boba Fett is my guess.)

 

Not sure if this has already been mentioned but i heard along the grape vine (note from a questionable source) that Benicio is playing Ducain on that casino planet? do you guys think this is a viable rumour? ( i am sort of 50-50 on it)

indeed. One wonders if the Rey/Snoke/luke mysteries are just big old smoke screens to keep us from talking about BDT.

I for one do not believe that he would be offered a small part, or that he would take a small part... particularly when you factor in that he turned down the darth maul part in TPM because of lack of lines/screen time.

He is either someone important, or he becomes someone important as a recurring character.

I hope it's a important one that's him have quite a few scenes.

 

In an orgional version of EST, Han Solo had to go and find his father, who was the head of the trade guild (very Dune esque if I remember accurately) Han's dad was like an emperor/king of space-traders. it was a stupid story, but i tmad eup most of Han's origionally envisioned adventure in TESB, where he and Leia had to go and convince his father to help fight the Empire.

I see that Benicio might be playing a version of that. and While he isn't Finn's father, I could see him being Reys. it would make sense that Lucas Film would re-use this storyline because they've been re-using all the unused OT material so far.

 

I've thought the same. In fact, I think a far bit might have been recycled from that Leigh Brackett script (that Kasdan took over from): The legacy light saber with a secret message inside, being another. There was also a lot more info on Force ghosts and how that stuff worked that could be relevant. And Dagobah was said to be an the location of an old temple/Jedi site or something in that script - this could've been moved on to Ahch-To.

 

Also the force tree right? or was that an early Kasdan script? anyway yeah. I think Benicio is quite a likely candidate to be linked to Rey's parentage. I'd really enjoy it if he was Knight of Ren. it would also give Finn some good Dialog with him if he plays Rey's Father.

 

My very first instinct was that he would be Rey's dad. And if the rumours are true and he:

...that could explain why he never went back for Rey.

Perhaps the idea is that he was once a servant of Palpatine or Snoke, or yes indeed a former KoR and this is how he knows the location of Snokey and co?

Back to TESB script - in LB's script Luke connects with Vader telepathically and also has visions I think - just not in the cave/tree. But there is so much interesting dialogue between Luke and Yoda that I am sure they would have pondered over and reworked into these new films...

 

It isn't original but I think BDT is a crime syndicate figure. With the Republic funding interrupted. An organization like Black Sun, or such might be a good way to go. I love the Dune-esque aristocrat apeal for help. It could be that BDT is an enforcer as well with "man in black" as his moniker.
