TFA seems to suggest (to me at least) that Rey is Luke's daughter. However, Episode VIII will probably continue one or two years after TFA. At the end of TFA, Rey is going to train with Luke and Kylo Ren is going to complete his training with Snoke. Finn is recovering from his injuries. The reveal of Rey's parentage will be done on screen, but I cannot see Luke waiting one or two years to tell Rey that he is her father.

That's the thing. If VIII starts off right after VII, then Luke might be Rey's father. If there is a gap, then we might find out that Rey's parents are unrelated bc Luke wouldn't wait that long to tell her. Or would he?...

I don't think that it's necessarily necessary to say outright from Luke's mouth that she is his daughter. Each film takes place in real time as if actual TIME has passed in the SW universe. It could be stated in many other ways .

There will be an opening crawl - it has to be some time after TFA else there won't be anything to say.

And if she is Luke's daughter but we don't see the opening scene with them then that is a MAJOR cop out - whether Luke would want to reveal it or not. We surely have to see Luke's reaction if he is her dad? The fact that we won't tells me he isn't.

Anyone else have an answer to:

Why the map shows Luke's route - who got this from Luke and gave it to LST?
Why is Lor San Tekka (and the map) and Rey on the same planet?

    Agreed, and obviousness is boring.

There needs to be a twist, like she's Palaptine's granddaughter.

Something along those lines to make things more interesting.

I have to say, this is a very well though conception. Your verstion might actually be better than the actual movie...
However I think Rey will be related to Luke somehow. Most likely she will be the daughter of Kenobi's daughter and Luke. As Katheen Kennedy already mentioned that continuing the Skywaler story is essential to Lucasfilm. And I think they kept this idea from Lucas (he wanted the story about Luke's grandchildren). I think at least one young Skywalker will be in the new trilogy.
Kylo most likely wont be redeemed that much. He might turn to the light side in the end, but I doubt the creators would redeem the killer of the most beloved charater in the series. He will die like the dark side, he chosed: alone.

I dont think she is a virgin-birth like Anakin either. That would be both rehash (which I think Disney will try to avoid in the next movies) and prequel-related which is almost blasphemy to the new direction. I think they will try to add as least amount of prequel-related as possible.
I never liked the idea of midichorians, despite im a physicist. Fake-biology just dosent belong to the star wars lore imo.
And I doubt her powers would be only luck (now that would be bad writing imo). The Kenobi-Skywaler blood would answer that (especially because they are planing a Kenobi-trilogy. I wonder why...).
But again your reasoning is almost perfect (only the virgin-birth and the luck-theory dosent add up imo).
We shall see soon (from some leaked version :) ).

Do you think another Skywalker might make it a bit complicated though in the sense that we already have one major story developing within that family, with Kylo?

And also, I think it would be bad enough her being Luke's without Luke just happening to be screwing Kenobi's daughter as well! lol.
If Kenobi is shown to get himself a lady then it might be an idea worth following that he is related but not Luke.
But Kenobi's story of going into exile carried weight as it was a sacrifice for him. His story was that he gave up his life and watched over Luke until "the time was right". If in that time he was on missions (that could compromise him) and screwing around, it would weaken the story immensely. In my opinion of course.

Well, after the jedi order fell I think Obi-wan might've said a big fck you to some of the old traditions. He was in his late 30s and looking after Luke for 20 years could become boring very fast. I think it would've been logical to him to fall in love and have a family (which might abandoned him later ?) as in the clone wars series he also had a love interest.
But they can also go with some crazy cloned DNA from Palpatine as ,,father" or other idea like that. But again I pretty much like yours. Rey's parents could be on Jaku on that day giving Tekka the map. But I think they premantely abandoned Rey and her planet for some reason. And if they returned they must've visited Rey. Or did they just go away without visiting her? Or did they die with Teka there?

Rey is NOT the daughter of a couple of randoms. Recent interviews with the filmmakers made that much clear.

I don't think she's Luke's either. I have my reasons to believe she is Han and Leia's, no matter how passionate the nay-sayers are.

Could be. As Leia kinda showed a mother-like relationship with Rey. But I think they would've recognised her. And Leia did not really have any reason to abandon her child. Even tho master_shaitan's idea is very good I also dont think Rey will be a random couple's daughter or a virgin birth.
I think she either will be Obi-wan's granddaughter or Obi-wan's daughter's and Luke's daughter.
Hopefully some leaked version comes up soon.

Or they kept quiet for her safety.

Or she was taken from them when she was just a baby.

Who knows all the other possibilities out there, if we just use our imagination a little bit.

    We don't know that.

Rey is Ben Kenobi's granddaughter, yes... She is also Luke Skywalker's daughter... Therefore, she is Leia's niece...

Rey isn't the daughter of random because JJ and Kasdan made a point to start her journey visually and thematically like Anakin's and Luke's. I'm not going to list the parallels, but there are A LOT of them that could point to Skywalker or Solo. Why go through all the trouble to make her feel like the daughter of a Skywalker/Solo just to make her a random? That means they did it just to trick us. That would not be "profoundly satisfying" by any stretch. I think JJ has too much respect for the fans to go that direction just to say he tricked us.

The map thing aside, I found it rather strange that Luke ever went into hiding to begin with.

This runs contrary to his character. No way would Luke from the OT have ran away because he felt shame from the collapse of his new Jedi order.

Then stood idly by while Han got killed by Kylo. As he would have foreseen this event transpiring and most definitely would have at least tried to do something to prevent it.

Yeah it's weird and didn't make sense to me...they should have cut to a scene before Alexia's reaction to Luke on the island and falling to his knees in emotional pain similar to Toda during Order 66 in ROTS .

He could have thought he was the problem or perhaps he didn't want to start down the dark path by taking revenge. A Jedi does not take revenge.
They used the map to find Luke. Now Luke will train her only for protection since Snoke is now interested in her. Not for REVENGE

Killing Kylo after the fact would have been revenge and not Jedi-like. But simply preventing kylo from killing han would have been very much in line with the Jedi code.
