ehhhh it's alright. I think they could do better. I would bet nothing like this is in the film. It's one thing if Luke is missing for some other reason and needs to be found but if he's missing because he's captured and the first time we see him he's just subdued and can't do anything I cant really get excited about that.

I'm torn on that issue. I think something other than a technological terror could be interesting, and for me it'd be somewhat fresh as I shied away from most of the old EU stuff. That said, I think the explanation issues and clichés we might find with the "mystical Force planet weapon" route might be worse than a retread we'd get from a Death Star III.

While I agree, this is the only plausible theory to why Luke can't escape if he is indeed all powerful.

That's exactly what I mean. I like the force as an ally to Force users but like powering weapons of mass destruction?? That seems kind of for lack of a better term cartoony to me.

It's possible Luke could have exiled himself for some reason other than he will activate a weapon is all I'm thinking. The weapon theory just seems a little too out there for me.

Maybe a super kyber crystal is keeping it subdued then. Think the Master Emerald in Sonic the Hedgehog games. The Emerald is stolen, the floating island crashes on the ground.
In this case, kyber crystal is gone, laser fires. Luke stays to keep it from firing using the Force while his friends try to put the crystal back in place.

This also kind of seems like something that would be more of a second movie plot. The first movie we get all the intros and establish the new evil etc. Then in the second film Luke gets captured and hooked up to the "detonator" and what you said follows.

I don't think it will happen either way but to me it sounds like more of a plot for the second film.

So in that sense though, would you be for or against the "space billiards" concept we are gathering simply from the "Catapult" codename?
And excuse me if you already addressed that question -- this thread seems to have been merged with another and then unmerged?

I think it could be interesting, and visually stunning to see planets crashing into other planets. Not sure I like the overall concept though... well, I suppose it depends on it being Force-powered or not. If it's a technological machine any guy with a grudge could use, that's kind of neat I guess.

All this talk of superweapons has me thinking back to the Farscape days, when the big superweapon that was hinted at throughout the series turned out to be
    a galaxy-eating blackhole.
Crazy sure, but neat at least, and supposedly a technological manipulation of nature itself. No Force ability needed. ;)

Heh, I know it's an old series, but spoiler tags added just in case.

Yeah I don't see it happening either, but I agree. Episode 8 plot for sure.

So Luke is in exile before TFA. Comes out of hiding to kick Kylo's butt.

Episode 8. Kylo gets pissed, finds this ancient Sith kyber cyrstal weapon, kidnaps Luke and straps him to it. Now the gang has to rescue Luke.

I'm not so big on the "Space Billiards" deal either but if some catastrophe was going to be caused by the force, planets being moved is more reasonable than a force powered weapon/planet activated by a anti-force using Luke switch.

@Voxx Yeah. Doesn't that sound a ton better if it did happen? Just imagine Luke's reveal him weakened and hooked up to a detonator....WTF no way!

I think the weapon is going to be one of the ancient ones they spoke of in the Clone Wars cartoon.

They were mentioned by Yoda during the story when they found the giant Kyber crystal on Utapau

    SOOOOOOoooooooo

I was watching old episodes of TCW today. It was season 2. Sidious hired Cad Bane to kidnap force sensitive children. Palpatine was taking them to Mustafar to experiment on and to teach them Dark Side techniques and they would be sort of a group of dark side force spies always searching via the force the galaxy. Kind of a "government knows everything" vibe. One of the rumors is that the Empire now known to by the First Order has a weapon that finds force sensitive people.
