My entirely different view on TLJ started because of this scene.

I simply felt father-daughter fight. The more I watch it, the more I am sure.

Yes I have daughter to. No, my daughter didn't beat my butt exactly like this (in physical sense).

But yes, I absolutely feel father & daughter - vibe in every moment of this epic scene.

It is not teacher-learner scene, it is father-daughter one.

You will see it to be true.

What a glorious acheivement, what a glorious film , and glorious trilogy.

This conflict is excelent. In all aspects. Rey needs to know the truth and Luke needs to tell the truth. And yes Rey has the needs of a father figure. Han and Luke were father figures to Rey in TFA and TLJ.

PS. The little detail of Luke falling and using the force is great too.

That's the whole intention of a mentor-pupil relationship. => The mentor becomes the father figure for the student.

But Luke is not her real father. Kylo Ren said it correctly, Rey sees her parents everywhere. First in Han Solo and now in Luke.

I saw a lot of mother/son in the Poe/Leia dynamic as well (in the same way).

I mean, there's no actual indication that this scene is more than a teacher/student moment...

...but thanks for telling us how to feel based on your anecdotal conclusions.

Either way, however viewers choose to interpret the scene, it's a beautiful moment for sure.

I liked DJ and Finn’s literal father/son relationship.

THIS. Though I can agree that Luke treats Rey with fatherly kindness: does not humiliate her (which he could easily do) and gives her a sound advice. But, his expression of disappointment and sadness when she offers him the lightsaber again is definitely teacher's: I failed to teach her this lesson.

In that scenario (and I agree with you), Holdo is that one aunt that tells you how it is. :D

As predicted before TLJ came out.
The set up coming into IX is the surrogate heirs of the Skywalker's legacy whitin the Republic/Rebellion (Padme-Laia->Poe)
and the Jedi (Anakin-Luke->Rey) vs the heir by blood.
And it's not random that Rey sees Han and the father she never had, while Poe sees Leia has the mother he lost.
It's not random that those two are the ones Kylo interrogated in TFA. It's Jung at his finest.
The mask = the persona vs the true self (his family's legacy: all of it.).
I'd say even some lines now are even more interesting.
The rebellion won't be intimidated by you/ You are afraid that you'll never be so powerfull as DV.
That is fear he cannot instill, and his own.

Add to that the emphasis on the broom kid: a force sentive child with a rebellion ring.
The Jedi and Rebellion born again.

What I dind't see coming was Kylo becoming Supreme Leader.
But that is even more interesting in this context.
Because now he really is "all" that "the truth that is his family" fought.

Luke is in his subconsciousness showing guarding and even jealous attitude towards what Rey wants to do.(to close to and to meet Kylo).

This fight scene starts by Luke entering room(hut) in which Rey and Kylo are touching their hands trough ForceSkype and he is abruptly stopping this in an anger that can be literally desribed as reaction of a protecting father.

How is that self-exiled Luke who doesn't care about the galaxy, suddenly cares about Rey , and wants to prevent her contact with dark-siders, Kylo?

He even fights to make her stay with him, not to go.He loves her with every atom.

You really never relent @McDiarmid :) I really appreciate all the heavy lifting you do for the Luke/Rey father/daughter theory. I hope it will be true, but I am guessing not. Happy endings are a thing of the past. They would rather mirror the real world news of abusive parents.

it's why so many people are complaining about how TLJ was a rehash of ESB. too many similar beats, like the bro-sis-kiss. :p:eek:

Though her real dad is dead in some grave back on Jakku.

Definitely a father daughter vibe. Rey is the parent though and Luke the child.

Luke is her apprentice in this movie.

Thanks. Luke clearly learns more from Rey than she learns from him. She even schools him in a duel and steals his books.

Again, no indication that it is a father/daughter relationship. All we know is the teacher/student aspect. Teachers can indeed care about their students very much.

    Watch the absolutes....
