TLJ is falling behind previous episodes in $$$. Rian hosed it. Fans choosing to not be let down multiple times. I have no intention to see it again. I think I have seen all the rest at least 7 times in my 50 years.

Movie left us sad, disturbed and not looking forward. Why Disney think they have to kill off ever old character and destroy who they were?

It's been out a week. It's made over $450 million in that time. People are still going.

A few smattered people refusing to go again aren't the majority of TLJ's targeted audience.

    New fans. Teenagers and children.

They may go more than once, ST is their OT to grow up with.

i am hoping this makes 1.7-8 billion dollars

low enough for disney to put in a corporeal luke but high enough for disney to not blink a eye when rian johnson takes risks in his new trilogy as well as abrams in episode 9

Don’t worry. They probably weren’t banking on 50yr olds watching these kid movies multiple times.

The fans I have talked to IRL have seemed impressed and eager to see it again. I will probably return for a third viewing soon. From what I'm hearing online that might mean I am not a real Star Wars fan, but I think I will survive that too.

The original poster is correct. TLJ was down 42% compared to TFA on their first Tuesday’s.

Word is getting out that this is a depressing film that turns into a funeral for a friend rather than a great adventure with friends we haven’t seen in decades...Nobody cares about the new characters and nobody wanted to see the series go off in this direction...Box office and fan reaction are proving this point.

    http://www.showbiz411.com/2017/12/1...eceipts-are-half-as-much-as-the-force-awakens

WEDS UPDATE: “Last Jedi” Tuesday was $20.3 million vs. $37 mil for “Force Awakens” on its first Tuesday. That’s around 42% off. $17 million is a big difference. Monday and Tuesday are big days for adults going to the movies, so this development is a little surprising. Almost every other film increased from Monday to Tuesday by quite a lot. Only “Last Jedi” declined, by 6%. Again, Monday and Tuesday are days when adults come out and sample “smart” movies. For some reason, their interest in “Star Wars” less than was imagined.

I am renawn by my honesty.
    I think film is terrible.But
    my kids,they love it.
I think film will be powerfull In the box office for this.Afteral, though in my eyes film is awfull I am going to make things more clear by watching it again since I still can't believe its possible I found it so awfull, and I think many people would do the same.
So..box office success is guaranteed. If only film quality would be as such.

Remember, also, that there is a little bit of inflation that happened between 2015 & 2017, so the actual number of warm bodies in seats is probably a greater-than-42% drop.

I've seen another article that details the even steeper drop in toy sales (over 50%) compared to TFA. I am not linking to it because buried in the article is a reference to Toy's R US having gone bankrupt, which really could seriously disrupt toy sales this year. But, that cannot be good news for Disney, no matter what the cause.

    To Xeven:

Well said. This film left nearly everyone (not all diehard fans) I have spoken to depressed when they left the cinema. Nobody wanted to go to the new films to see the death of the classic characters and they certainly have no desire to go back now...To put it bluntly, nobody cares about the new characters as much as they love the old ones.

This is is a flawed/depressing film and the word is starting to get out about it. Again, box office was down 42% compared to TFA’s first tuesday, The anti SW petition has over 40,000 signatures in just 48 hours.

I won't pay to see it again, and I 50% went to help keep my local independent cinema alive. Not impressed with Rian as a director.

I will see it a third time, which will be my first time doing so. For the record, I was 16 when the OT Special Editions came out. Is it a "satisfying" film, wherein I left smiling, like ANH, ROTJ, and even Empire? No. But it is a great film.

I think it's a little early to make predictions like that. As thes econd part of a trilogy it was expected to bring in a little bit less money than TFA. We'll see if the returns are significantly lower than TFA or if it's just what analysts had expected already before the movie was released.

so TLJ is not doing that bad, counting the fact that the kids are not out of school yet, in comparisson when TFA was
