I'm talking about the curve on that graph from By-The-Numbers. That's the value of graphs- they let you see data from a very different perspective than numbers alone, which are hard to really process. I mean, 20.4 million sounds like a lot to me, but I'm not Disney with payroll bigger waaaay bigger than that every payday.

If the curve on that graph continues on its current arc, it's not looking good for TLJ. I hope that you know I'm not at all picking on you- but I don't care what the hyperventilating headline at Deadline Hollywood has to say. They report entertainment news, they're not number crunchers.

I know your being over dramatic but I saw the movie for the 2nd time (Thursday and the following Saturday) and enjoyed it more than the 1st time. so I guess that shoots your theory out of the window. I'm also going to buy the Bluray when it comes out and whenever Disney jumps on board with 4k, i'll by the 4k version of the movie too.

I had 4 tickets and only saw the first 2 screnings with a friend. We both decided to not watch this movie again, since we even did not want to see the 2nd screening. So 2 screenings were skipped. :(

Am copying my BO comment here because it seems more pertinent.

Very few films have a second weekend increase. Most modern blockbusters, especially superhero/big properties, rely on first week bulge for majority of major BO. Evidence of a bad second weekend drop is Spider-Man homecoming at 62%, good one is wonder woman's at 45%. Absolutely terrible is BvS at 69% drop.

Going with that, I expect a 45-55% drop for TLJ. Except more $$$ because huge opening.

But SW has opened above them, actually second biggest after TFA. It'll do well, but have typical drops.

Watch for a 40-50%, or even early 50s drop (typical of most big films, sequels) and some people here crow of it as evidence of "film failing" and that Disney will for sure be angry at RJ and cancel his trilogy, only to be baffled when Disnye will announce they are pleased with it and keep him on. Then they will double down.

I couldn’t have hated the movie more the first time I saw it if I tried..

On my first viewing I hated the direction- I felt it was badly edited, there was too much cgi. I hated a lot of the dialogue, it just didn’t “feel” right. I had watched TFA the night before, and whatever the flaws of that movie, I thought JJ did a great job of having it “feel” like Star Wars and understanding the visual language of Star Wars that George Lucas established.

On repeat viewings of TLJ, it suddenly began to “feel” right. It was like an album that at first doesn’t sound right, because it is very different, but on repeat listens suddenly does. On my third viewing of TJL it flowed completely differently, it felt like it hit the right “beats” and I found myself anticipating the “beats” much more, and enjoying them. It made me feel warm and childlike again, rather than “cold”, which is how it left me feeling the first time.

I have found that there are many movies or works of art that really do need re-watching or repeat listens to “get”. Some movies get worse he more you watch them- whatever initial rush you got from them fades. I feel this movie is the opposite- it grows on you.

My initial rating would have been a 3/10. Now it is an 8/ 9.
