TLJ Second Trailer. When and Where ??

Oh I absolutely agree. They've waited too long, and the marketing for the film so far has been very light. This Thursday would be wonderful, but I feel like they're going to wait. Definitely before October though.

 

I don't need that stressful life, no thank you.

 

I have heard since about April / May or so that our next trailer would be in August. I assumed that meant earlier in the month not the last day. lol

However, I've been hearing a couple of things that make me believe that the Force Friday thing will happen. Not saying it will I have never been told that directly, but if I add up the things that I have been told and some of the other sources/sites that have kind of said the same thing I just feel like it makes logical sense to release the next one that day or the day before.

Something else that I heard was back during D23 that there was some discussion / rumors floating around about launching it early. Not at D23 per say, but around the time frame. Basically, the reasoning for that discussion was to take the focus off the Han Solo film because of its turmoil. They feel like TLJ is a very strong film and could carry that burden. But once a new director was in place they felt comfortable holding back. In this same vein I was told that is why we didn't get an announcement about a new movie. Not that there wasn't a movie that could be announced, but they felt like they needed to regain some trust within the disney organization before they could publicly move forward with a movie announcement.

A side note from that last sentence... I have been told that there has been some internal corporate politics going on about the leadership of LFL. From what I hear everyone loves KK and has the upmost respect for her as a leader however, with all the reshoots and complete retooling that R1 went through and now the turmoil of directors departing mid movie there are some internally that who are questioning whether she or the other creative leadership within LFL have allowed the directors and writers too much creative freedom and wiggle room and they are not controlling the IP like some within Disney feels it should be controlled. This doesn't surprise me to hear that really when you think about it.

 

Ah, I see. Well that seems pretty logical to me. That's unfortunate that there are those who are questioning Kennedy's leadership. I personally believe she is the right person for the job.

This makes a lot of sense and would help explain the borderline disinterest that appeared to be coming from Lucasfilm in regard to promoting a movie that is less than 4 months away. I had wondered when all the news broke about the Han Solo standalone film if that would impact the promotion for TLJ and that definitely appears to be the case. You really can't blame the company for putting TLJ promotion on the back burner in light of what happened with Rogue One and now Han Solo. I personally wasn't all that interested in Rogue One initially, especially as word began to come out about some of the behind-the-scenes drama that happened. However, I went into the theater with almost no expectations and enjoyed it. I really appreciated the callbacks to the prequel trilogy and the connections to Rebels as it made me feel that they finally starting to recognize the importance that the fans have for the characters and stories that aren't part of the films.

I know that when the first Force Friday happened it felt like it was a merchandise push and nothing more. The live stream on the Star Wars youtube channel seemed like one very long commercial and didn't feel like it was as well thought out as it could be. I hope that the use this Force Friday as a means to start the buildup to TLJ. I don't necessarily need a trailer, even a 30-45 second TV spot type of ad would be enough. Just something that makes it feel like more of an event that builds toward the film and not just a cash grab.

 

I just checked the ESPN schedule for Thursday night and it's awful. They have OSU at Indiana (OSU is number 2 in country and they travel to play the school that just fired their current Offensive Coordinator) which will get a good, not great rating. It's a terrible game for opening night. Usually USC plays another SEC team in the opening night ESPN slot...

Now I'm leaning toward Kimmel in a surprise release on Wednesday night release, and a GMA trailer teaser or trailer drop on Wednesday or Thursday or Friday.


I'm wondering if the "scan and find the reveal of a new character" thing on the SW app will be connected to the trailer.

Regardless, it's time. They've got a good window between now and next Monday. I hope they use it

 

I laughed way to hard when I saw this. Also, I'm wondering what movie was this from?

 

Do we have any credible or rumored evidence for a trailer Thursday? Or is this all speculation?

Watch it immediately. It's not short but it's fun and smart and a true classic

um, this thread is speculation . Credible evidence would only take the form of trailer teaser or official tweet, etc.

A credible rumor doesn't exist, if we really want to be honest. A rumor is a rumor. Zeroh might be less credible than screenrant, but a rumor is a rumor.

Hearing from a source or two or five is then "reported."

I like SWNN and think they & MSW get information both through sanctioned and un sanctioned leaks.

But this place isn't the NYT, WP, or Playboy (great journalism history there, I'm serious). Credibility takes on different meanings in these shallow waters.

Dr. Van has presented a case for that being a strong possibility (with a disclaimer about it being an educated guess/deduction), and his track record for accuracy, discretion, and understatement push my confidence into the high 90's. But I know that it is truly speculation and based on gossip to a degree. jon meechem has his SW equivalent, put it that way.




Being at SWNN and the Cantina shows we all impart some credibility on what is "reported" or just posted in these pages. Let's just keep that in mind.


(Edit: I've been failing miserably at being sarcastic and silly on the boards lately, and this is Exhibit A. In a seriousness, Dr. Van threw out a few nuggets. They are someone who always says less than they know or strongly suspect. Lots of factors point towards this week. I was having fun parsing words and riffing on the perpetual topic of a certain hack named MZ (who I'm convinced owns the U.K. Express). I swear I'm funny in person. Often. Usually. Sporadically. People hade laughed with me. I swear.)

 

Star Wars Theory actually posted about the potential dates for The Last Jedi trailer a day before MZ did.

But to reiterate, it's all speculation

 

After some thought and reading the comments on here, I could see it working like this:

Wednesday 30th Aug: The Star Wars Show or/and Good Morning America give us a sneak-peak of the trailer and announce its coming Thursday. Both hype Force Friday too.

Thursday 31st Aug: The trailer launches and Force Friday details at the end (like a link at the end of the video..? Not sure on this one though)

Friday 1st Sep: Force Friday begins with amazing hype for TLJ.
