TLJ Second Trailer. When and Where ??

My current prediction: 21st August. MNF on ESPN.

Teaser or trailer, i have no clue. However IMO that will be the day we get something

 

That's preseason.... but still a good possibility.

Maybe little league World Series?

People will be camped out for Force Friday openings, so the Thursday night August 31 college football opening night on ESPN isn't likely, and the ABC prime time game on Saturday Sept 2 is also a long shot.

I think if they don't release a trailer by August 18, we don't get one until late September...or later.

Force Friday II will be a huge deal because of the lack of news and I don't see them "wasting" the pop of attention from the trailer less than 2 or 3 weeks before or after FF2.

 

TFA: Teaser 1 (28th Nov), Teaser 2 (16th April celebration), BTS (Comic Con 10th July), Official Trailer (19th Oct)

RO: Teaser 1 (7th April), BTS (Celebration 15th July), Official Trailer 1 (11th August), Official Trailer 2 (13th Oct)


TLJ: Teaser 1 (14th april Celebration), BTS (15th July)

The most obvious thing we can take away from this is that there are 4 pieces of promotional trailer/teaser/BTS before the movie, and there will be a trailer in October.

So somewhere between July and October we are likely to get a 3rd trailer/teaser.

 

Keep in mind that Avengers Infinity War teaser is probably gonna be release in November, with Thor, and it will be HUGE.

So I think the Final Trailer October theory is most likely to be true. What remains to be seen is if there's gonna be a Teaser 2 or not.

 

whatever it is, i doubt Disney/LFL will break the 4 promo model. It's worked so well, why change something that works? With TFA they went heavy on the teasers, with RO they went heavy on official trailers.

Whatever they decide, i can't see them altering the 4 promo model.

Marvel will be almost certainly be releasing both a Black Panther full trailer and an Avengers 3 teaser/trailer before Thor 3. I wouldn't rule out anAnt-Man & wasp teaser showing with Thor 3 or TLJ.


Let's not forget that Justice League will be the last DCEU for 13 months. I have a feeling they'll release an early Aquaman teaser too, just because WB is desperate and have shown no restraint releasing D.C. trailers. They're so concerned with losing more ground toMarvel and correcting from their Snyder-verse beginnings that I feel pretty good about calling that shot.


These studios have some idea when other trailers are released. I can't recall any major studio releases having trailers drop on the same day (and if it happens it's rare as heck). Usually they give each other 24-72 hours of space for those releases.

Here's the thing about TLJ waiting to drop a trailer in October: I know trailers aren't locked into showing before another film (and thus that films release date) like in the past, but it still matters.

If there is any movie that TLJ would want its new, exciting, full length trailer playing in front of, it is Blade Runner 2049. Ford is coming back for a arty and unique sci-fi classic's sequel after several decades. That's the big demographic for TLJ.

You have to release TLJ at least a week before BR2 comes out, so end of September is really when we should see it.

If they wait until after BR2 to release a trailer, they are idiots, the movie stinks, or both. You can't hide the biggest movie of the year until the last minute...unless it's a remake that you've been dishonest about cast involvement levels and you don't want to anyone to know (hi JJ, how's the gold coin bath?).

 

I'd argue that the 4 promo videos for the last two SW movies isn't just a coincidence. It's the "pattern" disney/LFL are using for these movies. Could they change it this time, possibly. Yet like i said above, why change a marketing strategy that works? for no reason?

August/September should be trailer 1 or teaser 2

October should be the final trailer.

 

I think for sure they'll release a second teaser in August not just because it was the pattern last year, but also to help build up excitement for Force Friday. I mean they're hoping to sell a bunch of action figures for characters we haven't seen in any trailers yet (Rose, the Praetorian guards) so I think they'd want people to see these new characters in action before releasing all the toys?

I would say another teaser. It's still too early for a full trailer.

 

Most definitely teaser. The full trailer will be released in October/November.

 

I actually don't agree that it is too early for a full trailer, TLJ seems to be following Rogue One's release schedule which had the first trailer being released in August.

 

That's an excellent point.

Now, they did release several action figures during the run up to TFA that weren't featured prominently in TFA, if at all. Though Hasbro was kept in the dark too. It looks like TLJ toys will be more accurate, much like the RO toys were.

I know SW has a long history of including obscure characters in the action figure releases when the film is new, so I expect a few red herring figures, but things like the gorilla walkers and new awnings will be released on Force Friday, and some of that has to be in a second teaser.

Your points connects the the release of a new teaser (what fans want) to the profit angle that is the greatest motivation for LFL (not a knock, they're a business). And they would also have enough calendar space to drop a full teaser a week before BR2049 which I'm convinced will have TLJ full trailer attached.

I agree, maybe they could change the strategy because they don't need to show as much of this movie as the other two (with TFA they needed to introduce a new Star Wars saga and the new/old characters, and with RO they needed to introduce the spin-off idea).

But, as you said, if it works, why change it?

Always hoping. But i doubt we will get a new trailer Friday. But who knows..

 

I don't know that a trailer will drop this week but several of those EW photos look like trailer screencaps. I was dubious that there would be a trailer in August since there didn't seem to be any indication of that after Comic-Con but this EW coverage seems to indicate that there's something closer on the horizon.
