SPECULATION What if Maz is the twist?

Why not. It's possible. An agent of the dark side or with an important message to reveal from the light, it doesn't matter.
If Maz is the twist, that would be a surprising twist for sure.
We all expect a twist from a main character (and of course we will have one for sure), but a supporting character twist is very welcome too.

 

Existance of 1000 years old Force sensitive lady is a major surprise all by itself.

She has seen things.

I like to imagine what was she doing during the Empire?

She collects artifacts, I even speculate she collects Jedi artifacts, a practice that is opposite to Snoke who collects Sith artifacts(there is rumor about that Snoke's hobby to).

She could have major role in all of this. I even speculated she could be ancient mysterious Consecrated Eremite.

 

I would hate that. I really like Maz!

 

What if Maz is just an reincarnated Yoda that spoke normally?

 

It's always a possibility, but doubtful. I think Maz is doing what the Force is guiding her to do. She guided Han back to Leia, guided Finn on a new path and guided Rey to her destiny.

 

It's a shame it won't be in VIII though. I was looking forward to learning more about her, but it seems she will be there to connect the dots and possibly be involved in Finn's story.

 

Definitely would not see that twist coming. But I doubt it will happen.

What does worry me though is that there seems to be a push to replicate the structure of the OT. Finn as Han. Rey as Luke. Maz would be the new Yoda, the new, diminutive, FS alien. And that would make Luke the new Obi Wan. We have to wonder, does Maz exist as the final teacher for Rey (afterall, she makes it clear she is no Jedi, she has not been indoctrinated in their philosophy - which Luke's teaser comments leads us to believe might be a problem, she's "been around the blockl" and knows things).

Of course if Maz becomes Rey's teacher, does it mean Luke meets his demise like Obi Wan did in ANH?

 

i can't find the exact quote as it ended up in the final cut, i thought when we was explaining the FO she ended up saying..
"we all need to fight"

is that right?

she's clearly a character designed to move the story on.. but as a force user who's over 1000 years old, i'd be a bit disappointed if she didn't have a larger role to play in the rest of the saga at some point.

running a bar doesn't seem like she's willing to join the fight... even though clearly she could have an impact.

 

Seems kinda out of character, too.

There's a certain novel (won't say which, to avoid spoilers) that shows Maz as extremely dedicated to peace.

 

Why dark side?


What is she is orchestrating things "as the Force wills it."

1- She refuses Han- No go home to your wife get back in the fight.
2- She outs Finn as a runner but is there when he gets a clear call to action. Go be the warrior.
3- She is a pirate . . . Surrounded by scoundtels from all over. But Rey walks into a hallway through a door and opens a chest uncontested. That light sabre calls to you.


At each and every turn she is pointing every one toward their greater destiny.

 

"Hi I'm Maz Kanata, host of these Forces of Destiny heroic tales for girls."

"By the way, I'm totally on the Dark side"

 

Add sinister laughter in the background...

 

I was just throwing out that she might be a benevolent manipulator of events rather than sinister.

 

If anything is manipulative and sinister, I would suggest the Force itself.

 

Yeah and it makes me wonder just how corrupted it really is sometimes.
