Well, when it's your own creation, it's technically not considered meddling (that's more of an external thing). I get what you're saying though :D

So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.

i think given the amount of info we know about TFA, knowing the original cast are in it and some enthusiastic (and talented) new comers.. an excellent director who loves star wars the way we do and is famous for how well he does characters AND action.

there's no way this can suck.

the only question is will it be AMAZING.. or just good.

I liked the two Star Trek movies at first, but they don't grow on me. (It's just not the Original)
In my honest opinion both films are entertaining action flicks based on TOS nothing more, nothing less.
They are shiny hollow products, I miss the soul and message of the classic Star Trek.
I don't have the urge to watch them again, in the current state I tend to sell both DvD's this upcoming summer.

When a Director understands that the focus of a movie should be on the characters and the storyline, then I'd say 80% of the work is done. Abrams clearly gets it so I'm pretty confident about TFA.

To me, the PT was made by someone who forgot that. FX will never replace a great actor or a great story.

That's your opinion, the rest of us are holding out hope.

The hate you have for JJ is just ridiculous.

I think we as fans should go in to watch TFA without being overly critical, seeing it with fresh eyes. I'm not saying don't have any expectations but don't go in there right away focusing and criticizing every detail in minute/granular fashion (try not to take things too seriously). For those that were alive when the OT 1st came out in theaters, I'm sure you did not do that when you first went to watch those films.

Ya because hiring a team that takes care of everything for you, signing checks and making public appearances is really hard work, compared to the crew regularly working 16 hour days for relative peanuts.

I don't have to imagine what it's like because I work in this industry. Trust me Abrams doesn't even break a sweat on set.

I take it the simple fact that even JJ himself has no delusions about his ability as a director and that it's new ground to him means nothing to you.

I'm not being overly critical my comments here have been an accurate reflection of the guy's career.

I know I'm late to the party but I think from a story/acting perspective, the film should trump most of the PT (I'm not prequel bashing but come on, some of that was just bad). Maybe JJ does go in and distort some of the myth of the OT but I'm just looking for an entertaining couple of hours and have some fun with my daughters with new movies.

LOL where do you work at.... TMZ?

Just because Abrams has backup doesn't mean he sits on his ass. Apparently you don't realize how movies work.

    Thanks for the reply.
I always thought that JJ is the kind of a guy who likes to control and supervise everything. (like George Lucas)
No doubt that his team is doing some hard work, but I can't imagine that JJ is a lazy guy.
It does not fits him, in the making of's, he seems very busy and engaged in the projects he is doing,
Sadly that I'am not in the movie industry and can't tell whats going on behind the scenes.
Maybe I'am complete wrong about JJ and he is a suit like you call him, but if the movie exposes to be good.
Then I don't really care who is pulling the strings behind the scenes.
(I think it's Kathleen Kennedy and the Disney chairman/executive board)

I think that JJ Abrams is going to do good with TFA. I'm not expecting the best movie ever made but i think that with the team around this movie and the actors cast in it will combine for a really good movie.

The best choice! The only other people I think could have done it are:

Gore Verbinski & David Fincher directing together
    Rian Johnson
    Guillermo Del Toro
..and possibly Spielberg, but I feel like he'd overlook some things and people would be afraid to challenge him creatively.

Well, first off kudos for apparently getting every rating possible on a single post.

Second, I could still handle the disappointment. Life goes on, and honestly the PT is enjoyable enough provided one doesn't hold it on the same level as the OT. I'll do likewise with the ST.
