SPECULATION What really happened during the Cloud City Duel?

How dense could a gas get to stop a solid from falling? You would have to have some pretty extreme temperatures to maintain a gas at that density

 

Guys stop arguing about gas. I'm in class and about to pass out from keeping my laughter silent...

According the screenplay, the thing that we see falling in the background is a piece of the structure that Luke is hanging from. In the process of landing on that structure, Luke knocked off a piece of it.

 

R2 is not JJ because JJ is R2D2's padawan.

Wow then if that is to be true then it was a very badly made scene cause that big piece of whatever doesn't look like it belonged to the antenna.

 

I differ to what I said on like the third podcast or so as my opinion of what happened at Cloud City

 

I doubt it was intended to be looked at closely. Lucas didn't think VHS would take off and he intended to bring the trilogy back to theaters annually.

 

That would work if it's being based off of real-world science.

 

Somebody already said it but Bespin is a gas giant the lightsaber would be crushed by gravity as it was falling to the core. And yes star wars has a lot of fantastical tech and all of that but if they have the lightsaber somehow fall upward into space or something stupid they might as well drop spacesuits and have people running on the surface of stars and crap.

 

The automated system might only open for heavy objects, it doesn't open until Luke stands and puts all of his weight on one small area. Maybe the saber could have been collected if it was light enough not to set off the door mechanism?

 

It will be explained in the next special edition re-release, where some CGI alien or droid will be inserted into the shot.

He never as I recalled denied it. He said after years of working on SW and Indy he wanted to spend time with his daughter and delayed making the films.

 

When Vader chops off the hand, it goes in a completely different direction than Luke when he falls. Also the hand and saber fall a couple minutes before luke does. Theres no reason to assume that they got sucked into the same tube....because we would've seen it in the tube with luke...that peice of debris falling is just to show that we're really high in the air. It's not his hand or saber. IMO.

I think the lightsaber was considered lost by luke and vader until we see it in the new movie. Its really only significant to them and other Skywalkers. It was probably found by Ugnaughts or other scavengers and sold/ passed around on the black market as many lightsabers were after the fall of the jedi.
