When will the first trailer for Episode 7 be released and how much do we want to see?

I thought I read somewhere that the prequel trailers came out 8 months before, and if that holds true it would be at Star Wars Celebration 2015. My only question would be when will they announce the title of the film? With the trailer or say May the 4th?

 

I think maybe the first teaser late December with the first full trailer on May 4th.

 

I remember the first trailer for Episode I was Thanksgiving 1998, so that is 7 months before the release? I wonder if the first trailer comes out with the Spring Movies in March/April, or definitely with the first batch of summer movies in May.

I think its a given they will show Han, Luke and Leia in the first trailer (the same way they showed Darth Vader in both Episode 3 trailers), because that is the real selling point of this movie to the older crowd. I will say that I get a huge rush of excitement when they do show them, as it will be kind of surreal since I never thought this trilogy would ever happen.

 

I would love to see a trailer this winter, attached to a Disney movie. BUT I suspect we won't see one until summer with Avengers 2.

What we'll see -- a 30 second clip of John Williams classic music with brief flashes of the Big 3 intermixed with clips of the new generation of heroes and villains. Just enough to make us scream for more! Of course once it hist the net I will watch it for like 24 hours straight. AND we'll have a 1000 page thread in here discussing every frame and what it means.

 

I think you're right about the first teaser, as I remember the first PT teaser for each movie did not have any dialogue.

JJ should screw with the fans and put Jar Jar in there for a split second, and then all hell will break out on the Internet!

 

That would be funny as hell. Troll the fans! I would actually love it if Leia went back to Naboo and she and Jar Jar Binks teamed-up to solve the new mystery. LOL just kidding.

 

In my opinion they dont need a trailer. I would just say episode VII COMING DECEMBER 2015. The name alone will bring the masses.

 

I guess we'll get a teaser or two first, you know, insanely short thingies with no dialogue and only a recognizable sound (a lightsaber igniting, for example) and a title like "STAR WARS....EPISODE VII....WHO WOULD'VE THOUGHT HUH?"

And then sometime summer '15, a minute, a minute-and-half of actual trailer, now with the subtitle attached, some blurry scenes that fans will screen cap and goggle at 'til their eyes bleed, and a few solid shots of some of the actors in costumes, possibly looking fearful or what have you, maybe even a starship landing or taking off in the flare of a lens.

 

I remember seeing the phantom menace trailer and was in shock! Couldn't believe it. A new Star Wars film. Taped it off sky news and watched over and over. I would have thought we would see something around the end of this year and more around celebration. Can recall there being a special vanity fair issue at around same time as the episode 1 trailer so would probably have some publicity shots by end of this year.

 

I think I'm just dreaming at this point, but I have this sinking feeling that Disney might do SOMETHING in December to put on screens before "Into the woods" on Christmas Day to help promote that film. Start the massive marketing a year early? Why not? I don't think it will have to show any footage, but maybe a title? Voice over? Maybe something like the first Dark Knight trailer that came out for SD comic con almost four months before the first trailer with a bat logo and awesome voice over. Wishful thinking? Probably.

If I were a betting man...it's Star Wars celebration in April where we get our first full trailer. That way it's ready for Age Of Ultron.

Also....I thought the casting announcement almost broke the internet....no doubt when this thing hits...it for sure will.

 

Actually, I still have friends on the fence who were burned by the PT. But I know if they see Han, Luke & Leia in the trailer then they will be sold.

I'm also a big Tolkien fan so I'm pretty sure my head would explode if the first teaser showed up for the next Hobbit movie. However, as has been noted by others, my guess is it will probably first show up at Celebration 2015 and then for Avengers 2.

Now for what I want in it. For a teaser, some old footage with some words (like continuing the epic journey..., evil will rise again..., new heroes blah blah blah something) in between shots with the final shot being new footage of either the Falcon flying through space or landing on a planet from VII and then a cut to STAR WARS: EPISODE VII: [INSERT TITLE] in the traditional font/format. For sound, Luke's theme (I think it's technically called Binary Sunset) playing throughout, followed by just engine noise in the Falcon shot, with an igniting lightsaber sound at the end title screen.

As for an actual trailer, just give me something that will blow my mind.

 

I thought it would be fun if the first trailer fell on the original release date of the first film, but May 25th falls on a Monday. So I predict the first trailer will be on Friday, May 22.

 

I have a growing feeling the official title will be announced in December and the first trailer will be released at Celebration VII.
