Long before the prequel trilogy or well past the sequels. I don't really want another trilogy set in between there.

You are all thinking linearly. He could place his trilogy on any point on the timeline, only sideways. If it's taking place in unexplored part of the galaxy or even another galaxy, the events that we know could only be distant echoes or rumors for the new Rian's characters.

Not really interested in what Rian Johnson will do next, if I must be honest.

After seeing TLJ, I'm not excited for Rian's trilogy anymore. He can do whatever he wants, I don't care.

I would love to ancient times (force origins).

More likely, it will be during we have already seen, just disconnected from the main saga films (ie, Episodes IV through VI through new sets of eyes).

    My speculation:

I don't actually see Rian being involved in these films anymore. I feel like mid-2018 he'll quietly leave the franchise. Whilst it's blown out of proportion, I can't see Rian ever recovering from TLJ's more critical fan response. Disney shareholders will want him gone, and that's that, sadly.

I reckon we'll get one more one-off anthology film after Episode IX in May 2020, and then the franchise will go on a break for 2 or 3 years, to allow "Disney presents James Cameron's Avatar II" and "Disney presents James Cameron's Avatar III" complete market shares. Then in 2022, 2023 and 2024 we'll get this new SW trilogy.

I want something set at the start of the Jedi Order, or... Just adapt the best bits of KOTOR. The latter is such an obvious idea, if it isn't the TV series, it should be this movie trilogy.

Ever since reading about them as a kid, I've wanted to see the Sith War depicted on the big screen. What could be better than 3 movies of hundreds of Jedi vs Sith for control of the galaxy? Also ties into the main saga as the Republic with Coruscant as the capital was established along with the rule of 2 following the war (if my memory serves right)

Assuming Disney & RJ don't get into "creative differnces" wasn't it metioned that it will take place in a "not scene yet" section of the Galaxy during the OT.

Oh (Sith) Lord, please move away from the OT. They *only* reason they'd want to set it there is so they can have a tacky AF Darth Vader or Boba Fett cameo.

They need to set the thing an entire age away from the Skywalker story. It allows them to completely hit reset in all areas, from characters to designs.

I this point in the saga the Skywalker story is 90% finished. Personally i think it blows.

RJ said no known people will b in it. So no Vader, Fetts, Jabba, etc, etc.

I think Johnson's upcoming trilogy would be more interesting if they looked at the events in the sequel trilogy as ancient history. I really liked Dark Horse Comics' Legacy title, or at least the implications of Cade Skywalker.

I really have no clue, where I would put a new trilogy in the timeline. The era of KOTOR is often called, but as much as I enjoyed KOTOR: I would prefer it when Disney either would use another era or make this era completely different. In the original setup, this era was much too similiar to the PT-era, so there wouldn't be enough difference to the known to concince me about the the idea of a "non-saga-trilogy".

And there's another idea that shows up in my mind: What if this trilogy would be a "generation thing" with every movie in another time? Maybe the first part could be set up in the time of the PT, the second part takes place while the rebellion fights against the empire and then the third part shows us the time between OT and NT (or how do you call the Sequel Trilogy here - please help, I'm a youngling in the cantina! :D ).
