It's still not a plot hole. It just went against your sensibilities, desire for wish fulfilment and nostalgic memories.
What would you have done with Luke?

No no, you're using the wrong words. You are thinking it has too much depth and that it is the product of too complicated writing.

This whole fetishism with alleged plotholes is the exact reason why the critics are laughing at us Star Wars fans. It is getting fairly ridiculous. Now Luke Skywalker's character in TLJ is being described as a plothole. What a strawman! If it's not Saint Luke, he's a plothole.

Not sure if it has been mentioned, yet, but I consider Yoda's participation a plot hole,

I.e. he shows up during the burning of the Jedi books, but there's no hint or suggestion whatsoever that he adviced or helped Luke in the past (when Luke inarguably really needed Yoda's advice) when he was about to kill his own nephew.

The critics are praising this crap. You want a glaring plothole. Why does the FO stop firing at Fin and the Asian chick (can't remember her name, because she's so forgettable) at the end of the film. Its quite obvious they're alive, but the FO just let's them go. Moronic and inconsistent

Yoda: Destroy the Sith, we must.
Obi-Wan: Send me to kill the Emperor. I will not kill Anakin.
Yoda: To fight this Lord Sidious, strong enough, you are not.
Obi-Wan: He is like my brother. I cannot do it.

Wow so many excuses for this horrible movie. I think we're reaching with our assumptions now. 101 psychology for Luke lol

Luke does try to kill the emperor right at the beginning of his and Vader's fight. And at the end he could have done it again, but choose not too

And once again , the fact Luke reacts in a completely different manner to the same situation has got me stumped. It still seems inconsistent to me. You can argue all you want that he was conflicted, the darkside tempting him. But this felt nothing like the enlightened Luke I saw emerge at the end ofROTJ

A response based on the content of the argument would have been better though. Not too much to ask. But then, you are new here. Would you say Star Wars is not about the psychological conflicts of our characters?

Why would Yoda be there. Luke realized that it would be wrong to kill Ben, he followed his heart instead of his mind, and didn't kill Ben. He didn't need any advice.

Don't know if this has been brought up, as i haven't read this whole thread, but the closest thing to a plot whole that i've noticed so far is that Luke, when projecting himself to Crait, never tells anyone what he is planning to do, he just walks out and faces the first order and which makes the resistance waste their time until they figure out that he's giving them a chance to flee. I first thought that Luke maybe didn't know exactly what was going on when he arrived and that he didn't really have a plan going out there, but what would then be the reason? He also says later to kylo that "the rebellion is reborn today", so it's really hard to tell exactly what he was thinking..

Anything but this crap. Seriously this whole movie is a shambles. The plots for the main characters all felt lacklustre and laboured. Film should have been used for character development. I was interested in the characters duringTFA. But in TLJ they've either plateaued or (unbelievably) lost character

Setting an example. Most of the resistance people, all of the resistance people, couldn't even see that he was projecting himself. The moment when this was revealed the resistance fighters were already well well out of sight in the back of the base waiting for someone to lift the ricks. Only Leia knew that Luke was projecting (at least my assumption). Luke wanted the resistance fighters to see what he was doing. :) Or perhaps Poe and Leia are just slow thinkers. I also didn't get the idea that Luke was stalling perse but more that he was trying to make a point, set an example for everyone to see; like Tianamen tankman. It was Poe's interpretation that Luke was stalling so that they could make a run for it. That moment where Poe realizes is in itself used more specifically to show that Poe 'got the lesson' that avoiding and running from confrontation is sometimes the wisest option.

At least that's how I read it.

But then again, this is the only possible 'plothole' suggestion I've heard that has some substance to it (and that after 41 pages!!!). Welcome to the Cantina.

I did consider it a response, I believe people are making any excuse for the plotholes in this film. Lukes psychological conflict to me is resolved in the original trilogy. As I've already stated he faces his darkest moment with Vader and he overcomes it. What's going on in TLJ feels like spin cycle repeat crap to me.

Everything opposite of Rian. That's what I would have done.

That would've been a plot hole then. And there would be no need for Rey at all.

Ah true. It makes sense that he wouldn't plan to stall the first order since he just arrived and has no clue what's really going on. I guess Poe just interpreted it that way (luckily for them) and they could escape. But did leia really know about it though? She gives him a peculiar look but i figured it was because she found it very strange that he had han solo's dice.

I don't think it's that complicated, he just knew that the resistance was in a dire situation and needed help. If Luke doesn't go to Crait the resistance 100% ends right there, but once Luke "arrives", Kylo gets distracted and focuses everything on him, which gives the resistance the time it needs to escape.

I've seen people try to rebuke this by saying, "But the resistance didn't even want to escape!!"... but just because they didn't want to doesn't mean they didn't have to. My interpretation is that the resistance is in more of a, "Let's go down with a fight" mode than actually thinking they can defeat the First Order. Luke's arrival gives them momentary hope but they soon after realize he's only there to bide them time to escape.

Also, again just my interpretation. But I think had Luke said, "Alright I'm going out there... all of you need to find a way out" nobody would've listened because they couldn't really comprehend what he was doing. They'd either want to fight with him or think the attempt was useless because again, without comprehending the force projection, they thought Luke would get cut down quickly and the First Order would still get to them before they could escape. Luke wasn't gonna sit there and explain to them all like, "Alright look I'm not really here, I'm just projecting myself here blah blah blah"...

Plotholes aren only based off inconsistency. The ludicrous and impossible also apply. Right at the start where Poe takes on the dreadnought single handedly to take out its main guns and comes out completely unscathed is ludicrous. I get he's the best pilot in the resistance, but it was utterly ridiculous and unbelievable
