Luke & Rey. The simplest, most clear and obvious solution.

Rey is no Jedi and Act2 of a monomyth is not the moment to become one, this is the characters lowest point, Luke became one when he threw away his lightsaber.
So my guess is Luke plus x. Those bodies in TFA were maybe not the first Jedi he trained.

i still contend those bodies aren't Jedi and certainly not Luke's students.

but i also agree that the title isn't necessarily meant to be literal.

"The Last Jedi" could merely refer to Snoke's fear of the rise of a new order, Luke's original plan to raise a new order, maybe even Luke's desire to raise a new order. maybe Rey's desire for Luke to raise a new order. with people's love of squirreling FSs away, there could be Jedi all over the galaxy hidden away.

you get my point. the Last Jedi is something that could be, or is already past, or is present and not recognized. it's not necessarily a reference to any specific two (or more) people. at the moment Ben is technically one of the Last Jedi too, but look where he is now. does Luke even identify as Jedi anymore? we have no idea.

like all these other crumbs to speculate over, the title inferring multiple Jedi doesn't actually solve or reveal anything.

The title most likely refers to Luke and Rey.

But what if it really refers to Luke and Ben? Maybe Ben wasn't responsible for the fall of Luke's Jedi after all. Someone (perhaps Snoke) infiltrated the Jedi order and killed Luke's apprentices. Only Luke and Ben were left. => The Last Jedi
After that Ben turned to the dark side.
That's probably not very likely though...

it doesn't preclude Rey from joining as a Jedi, and it's technically accurate at the moment to say that right now Luke & Ben are the last Jedi (so far as we know).
we'll see what happened to Luke's students and how it all plays out.
i am holding out that Luke's students are alive (or at least that Ben didn't kill them).
it's a thin hope, but until it's been canonically stated that he did it (in an actually vetted source), i'm holding onto it. hahahaha

Just a thought to take things in a different direction...

We know that Luke trained Ben to be a Jedi. Now here is where things get murky. Did Snoke take Ben physically? Did Snoke turn Ben mentally, and then Ben grabbed a few other Padawans and formed the (Jedi) Knights of Ren? With the promise of Snoke fulfilling their training?

Maybe the Knights of Ren were The Last Jedi? To be turned to a small Sith army of 7 when their training is completed? (I don't give a toss what Pablo says - I still say Snoke is a Sith yet to be revealed - A Sith that does not believe in the Rule of Pooh)

    Just a thought. Maybe....

    But probably not ;)

i think there are 4 currently, but i'm including fallen Jedi (seeing as the word Jedi is still there.. yep - thin)

Luke, Ben, Snoke and Ahsoka Tano.

we've debated the 'there is another' line from Yoda for approx 37 years now.. we might as well chuck Snoke into that bottomless cauldron seeing as TPTB said he isn't Sith.

I know.. Ahsoka? really? i still dream of seeing a live action version of her, and obviously that she's still around in the TLJ time period. (i still have a ridiculous theory that Laura Dern is playing her. i know.. there's no explaining what's in my head tbh.)

    yes and no...

no, because it came from me.

yes, because i am willing it with every fiber of my being!

as far as i know there is only 1 rumor about Dern's part, and that is that she has a high-up role in the republic/resistance (which actually works with the Tano idea). there was an image of her with pink hair, which i think was of her moving between sets or something... so the pink hair could easily have been camouflage.

Rey is not a jedi yet, but Kylo is not a jedi anymore, he is a Ren.
So I voted for Luke and Rey.

Anyone remember the 80's Star Wars comic, there was an issue called the Last Jedi? In it, Luke found an old alien that used to be a Jedi, and was hidden away on a planet... I have a physical copy at home. Anyway, the title got me thinking what if the title refers to a Jedi from a previous era, or really a group of Jedi from a previous era, that Luke finds out about during his temple search? Luke and Rey's story arc could be to find this (group of) lost Jedi... Probably very far-fetched, just trying to think of it differently than characters we already know.

Luke may have trained Ben as a Jedi but that doesn't make him a Jedi. Rey isn't a Jedi so...there is another or others in seclusion.

A film critic in my area said to put the two titles together to make a sentence:
"The Force Awakens The Last Jedi"

Makes me think Luke is the last, and he gets someone new we haven't seen yet to train and . . . do . . . something ? But I voted Luke and someone else.

I think the Last jedi refers only to Luke but has a double meaning which is where the plural comes form. I think throughout the first act of Ep.8 Luke will not want to train Rey and continuously mention the "Last Jedi" in reference to the old Jedi order, like "The last Jedi didn't allow emotions to.... and that led to..." I think Luke will keep making reference to the last Jedi order so when he decides to reform the Jedi he won't repeat the mistakes of the Last Jedi.

Ep. 9 will probably titled "Rebirth of the Jedi" or "The New Order(s)" or something along those lines and we will see Luke leading Rey, Finn (if he does end up force sensitive), Maz (finally decides to train in the force) and Leia (probably not anymore since Carrie passed away). On the flip side I think Snoke will finally declare himself the new Sith Lord and Kylo his apprentice but also formally declare the Rule of Two obsolete and he brings in new recruits (Knights of Ren?) to reform the Sith Order/ Sith Empire. Perhaps we will see a large time jump between Ep. 8 and Ep.9 so that Rey, Finn, Maz and any other jedi can be trained fully as well as the new Sith growing in numbers (this also allows for Leia to die offscreen without it seeming sudden and out of place).

That contradicts what Han Solo himself said in TFA. So no.
